Striking Options...

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I know, I''m being a bit of a BBC-hound today, and been digging out news story as way of something to talk about other than Ashton, Worthers and Snow...

Anyways, here''s another one: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/4564514.stm - What do you reckon to either Messrs Nieto or Jeffers, if striking options are required..?

We were linked with Francis Jeffers during the summer before he decided upon Rangers instead. Whilst he''s not done much up there (0 goals in 7 games; some as a sub, or subbed) I can see Rangers looking to end the loan agreement come January to ease funds for other players. If he became available, would/should we still be interested?

This Federico Nieto chap obviously had something about him to begin with for Rangers to look at him, and may still be someone worth taking a punt on... Perhaps get him in for a 1-2 week trial..?

to be honest there is not much to replace ashton with......

1) Trundle - fat show boat

2) Eastwood - why would he bother coming here? when he is coming to this division with his current squad......

3) Jeffers - unproven and not really consistant, a fringe player

1 Trundle - likely to get promotion with swansea - turned down champs teams before and only interested in prem clubs as a big fish in a tiny tank at swansea.  Agree is a show boater and too old.

2. Eastwood - unproven after just 1 full season - southend unlikely to get promoted at the moment but looks a bit limited in ability to develop terms - similar to leon in that respect.

3. Jeffers - Done nothing at any club beyond Everton - no no no.

How about Matty Fryatt at walsall - tall but young goal scorer  still in his teens but made his debut at 17 and consistently scored - simialr to Ashton in that respect.  Is an england U21 international and has real potential.

1) trundle has bundles of ability, if ashton does go then for the right price he may be worth a pop - scores all sorts of goals - he turned down sheff wed cos he didnt want to move to a team doing crap - i guess starting late in his career means he wants to have good successful seasons getting chances to score. Well worth a go - in a good team he WILL score and create goals.

2) eastwoods goalscoring record is surprisingly good - i dunno nothing else about him.

3) jeffers - well.... he is still fairly young but if he cant score in the SPL....  Arsenal and arsene wenger signed him up for a fortune tho -  Actually he only has 35 goals in his career!!!!!! Shocking No thanks!!!!

How can some of you say that eastwood is the man who could replace ashton. He''s abouut 5foot tall and has had an average season in league 1. He isnt the sought of player we would need, although if we did sell ashton and had some money about he would be a gamble worth taking but we cant rely on him to do what ashton has.

We shouldnt sell ashton because there is no-one, jeffers has hardly scored for 5 years, lisbie would be a disaster, j johansons nearly 30 but might be all right although he only scores versus us, we dont want that argie muppet, trundle has always scored goals but would be a BIG risk because hes a bit flash and wouldnt be the big fish at norwich.

Abbott from Huddersfield looks useful, as does Grant Holt from Rochdale. Both look capable of a step up in Division.
