Yeah right, managers always tell their players to stop playing at half-time in the premier league.

So at four goals to nil Klopp instructed his players to come at us full pelt in fear that, on our first-half showing, we might score five?

Yeah, right.

Because it has to be one or the other, right?

Exactly, not a case of manager telling players to give up but when your coasting 4-0 up the intensity and urgency simply isn’t there, although you could argue a sense of freedom can improve play but it always felt in the second half that Liverpool had more gears if needed. Rather than take a false comfort from thinking we ‘won’ a half I personally prefer to take comfort from the comments of their players staff and fans who on the whole seem impressed with our display and think we will do fine. They play relegation candidates often but we rarely play current euro champions so while it’s only 1 game we can take the compliments as a good sign. They will see teams leave Anfield suffering worse score lines this season but not many having created so many chances.

On top of the fact that we were up against it playing the European Champions on their home soil first time out, we then gifted them a goal early on.

That the outcome was reasonably  respectable speaks volumes for that much vaunted team spirit.

Pukki's goal, and the manner of it's achievement, was more important than just another face saver in a game already lost. It was a moment of great significance as far as our prospects for the rest of the season will go, for player and team alike.

The whole experience, under such a spotlight, will have been a massive learning experience for our youngsters and PL rookies. They didn't just get taste of what life will be like at the top table they got the full four course and how nice it is to see the club once again plastered all over the headlines and the news clips. All to the good for NCFC, it's reputation, it's fan base and, ultimately, it's future prospects in a game ruled by commercialism and big money.

In at the very deep end, they've learnt to swim

I genuinely don't understand what some people expected to happen in the transfer window or during our harder games. Were people expecting us spend a fortune or to beat Liverpool at Anfield?

We got beaten by a few goals. Be under no illusion that this was a one off, we will likely have three more beatings (Man City x2 & Liverpool again), but I think we'll give everyone else a game and stand a chance of a result against all of them. Write the Liverpool and Man City games off, the only teams in this division that can compete with them is each other.

I'm genuinely pleased, not with the result, but certainly with the performance. Any criticism of Krul is stupid, he was MOTM (for us). I thought Krul, Godfrey, Lewis, Aarons, Cantwell, Pukki and Leitner all had good games and must start next week. Buendia was decent but also must start and Hernandez whilst not on for a huge time looked good too. I'd argue that the only four players we could drop are Hanley, McLean, Trybull and Stiepermann, anyone else would be harsh.

How can we drop Hanley though? I can’t see playing a makeshift CB being any better than him.

Klose will hopefully be fit by the next game.

I didn't say we should - although we most definitely should when either Klose or Zimmermann is fit - I said that he was one only four players we could drop without it being harsh.

Feel for Tommy as people already saying he should be dropped when actually he got little support from McLean. I would imagine Amadou is well off match fitness and there's absolutely no way he should play as a backup CB either.

Newcastle won't be an easy game, harder than Liverpool in some ways as we need a result. If Tommy is not fit either then I might be inclined to play Leitner and  Vrancic.

I think McLean is on pretty solid ground with DF for some reason, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Leitner and McLean against Newcastle, with Hanley given a chance to respond to his Liverpool performance. However I expect to see Klose and Amadou in for Hanley and one of the midfielders a.s.a.p - we especially need a more physical presence in midfield to help the back four.

But any realist will accept the fact that Klopp at H/T instructed his players to take the foot off the gas, Ricardo -- Liverpool followed their instructions and we were allowed to play a bit and got a goal.

Go watch that second-half again.

You can’t dress your opinion up as fact. To suggest Klopp told his players to take their foot off the gas is nonsense. They maybe naturally took their foot off for a while because of the comfortable lead but the problem with that is once you do it, it’s very have to build up the same momentum again

Nonsense.

Liverpool's GD is already 2 goals behind Man City's and it's perfectly believable that the title could be decided on this basis. Why would they ease off in the second half?

It can hardly be a surprise the utter boIIocks that Jools spouts given his Avatar; it’s the mentality that if you say anything often enough and shout down anyone who disagrees often enough your opinion becomes ‘fact’.

In truth many of us felt McLean should not have been selected ahead of Leitner or Vrancic last season but we all know Farke does not change a winning team and we kept winning so he kept his place.

it was pretty obvious to me that Leitner should start on Friday as his ability to receive the ball from the defence under pressure and retain possession is important at this level and gives the defence an outball. I really hope Amadou turns out to be good as if so I expect him and Mo to be our CM duo.

I don't believe Liverpool took their feet off the throttle. Klopp is a professional coach. Quite possibly when they went 4-0 up their players subconsciously went into "autopilot" mode. They would still scrap for every ball but thinking things were easy became lazy and dropped off on the creativity - just crossing it in and expecting one of the players would get on the end of it. But their intensity remained the same.

Dead right Surfer. He's a lower championship level player at best & well have better players in his position, he will cost us many points this season but there's no chance DF will ever drop him. Reason - he once saved his life !

"Foot off the gas" is a convenient way for Liverpool to try and dismiss the fact that we did better than them in the second half.  Klopp and co wouldn't admit it, but they would be feeling a bit irritated at the way we kept them out and scored ourselves in the second half.

They would be expecting to win 6 or 7, but their goal difference was spoiled - and as we saw Man City were the beneficiaries of that.

Anyone that thinks they have the better of us, even at 2 or 3 up, or in this case 4 up, hasn't taken notice of how we play - the same for 90 minutes, regardless of the score - and will nearly always come back at a side when we are behind, often getting what we need to get points.  I can see the same situations arising this season, a side getting a one or two goal lead then thinking we are done.....but as we know......we are never done!

Post of the day for me, the season is 45 minutes old and we're relegated already. Get a grip

I said we will be relegated "if we continue to concede soft goals like that for the rest of the season" - but you go continue misquoting people. I only wrote 5 sentences, you can at least read them properly.

Lewis marking Van Dijk, Aarons marking Origi, failing to clear our lines for the 2nd goal etc. Silly mistakes like the above will be punished consistently in this division.

I actually think we will stay up, but we will need to improve massively.

I did read them properly, the very idea that you should use the 'R' word after 45 minutes of football is poor form in my book......

FWIW I  agree that we will stay up, I don't think that we'll have to improve massively, as I'm convinced that there are 3 worse Teams than us and plenty will concede 4 or more at Anfield.

I remember when Webber came in he said from now on we'd never see our players down tools again. He might have been referencing the Brighton game in 2016, I can't remember exactly and I'm paraphrasing him but he definitely said something like that. To be fair to him, even though we've been tonked a handful of times since then I haven't seen our players actually give up like they used to. It's a big part of the reason why the atmosphere in the crowd around the club and toward the team is so good at the moment. It's why despite having talent and a few good characters we never really cared for the 2012-2016 teams all that much. Giving up is one thing fans find utterly unforgivable and rightly so. This team hasn't downed tools once and are always professional even when getting a hiding and for that they deserve our support 100%.

Although I really hate the word "plucky" this weekend round up pretty much echoes most of what has been said.

"5) Plucky Canaries choose to fight fire with fire

It is easy to criticise Norwich’s tactics at Anfield: against the European champions, the newcomers pursued an attacking approach that left them open, and were duly clouted. However, most weeks they will be playing sides far less good than Liverpool – for whom they still caused problems with their pacy and purposeful play. Teemu Pukki showed enough, both in front of goal and in general play, to suggest that he belongs in the top division, while Emi Buendía looks to have the touch and agility necessary to supply him. Promoted sides often pick up points at the start of the season, still grooved and confident from the previous one, and – with Newcastle, Chelsea and West Ham the next three games for Daniel Farke’s side before the first international break, Norwich now have a chance to announce themselves properly." Nice after game clip with van Dijk waiting for Pukki to exchange shirts.
But someone gotta tell Klopp to keep his hands off of him and to settle for having Firmino!
