A Load of Squit

Well done Olly!

Recommended Posts

I used to play football with his eldest brother when I was a kid. His old man used to help coach and both his parents used to help out with Brundall Youth Club. Nice family, I hope he gets his chance. After years without any, we could end up with three 90mph+ bowlers to pick from in Archer, Wood and now Brundall's finest, Olly Stone.

I don't really see Wood as an option for the Test team, he's much better at the white ball game (although you may just have meant 90mph+ bowlers for England in general). With Archer definitely out of the Edgbaston Test, a good performance from Olly could put him in line for a debut in the first Ashes Test... how awesome would that be for the lad? Wood's out anyway, so Stone's the only genuine fast bowler available - none of Curran, Woakes, Stokes, Broad and Anderson can get close to 90mph consistently (if at all).

Yeah, I just meant in general.

I didn't know Archer was out of the first test. That's a shame, with the crest of the wave he was riding you'd have back him to have a great game at Edgbaston.

Yeah I know... got tickets for Friday and Saturday of Edgbaston so I'm gutted!

Says on here that England hope Jofra will be available for the second Test, implying he definitely won't be ready for the first. So many good bowling options, but we definitely need a genuine quick like Starc. Having Stokes as a second change bowler is just a bonus really - Woakes is easily good enough to bat at 7, so we've got real depth with both bat and ball.

Oh hang on, we're 58-8 before lunch against f*cking Ireland. How very England.

Regarding the depth of batting and bowling, when I saw the team earlier, I was a bit concerned that it seemed to prioritise all-rounders rather than specialists. That's OK in ODIs, but in Test match cricket the 'jack of all trades' approach has rarely worked. It should've been OK against Ireland, but I'm not convinced by it for the Ashes.

What a disrespectful performance. Some of them have forgot what test match cricket is. In fact, Olly, and maybe Leach, are the only two people who should avoid an utter evisceration in the changing rooms.

Arrogance is fine until it lands you bowled out for under 90 against the world's worst Test match team in their first ever match at the level.

Would probably be a fitting epitaph to Bayliss's time in charge if we lost the Ashes on home soil for the first time since 2001. Can't stand the bloke. We need a Test legend to try and get us playing the long game properly again. Someone like Atherton or Hussain would do the job well.

In at #10 and 19 runs in the bag. Great debut with the bat under very strange circumstances. Let's see how this goes now.lunch is over.

Great stuff...those wickets were sorely needed after the pathetic showing by our ‘batsmen’, Denly apart (just about).

Problem is that too many of them haven’t played anything like enough 4-day cricket - out of the batsmen only Burns and Denly have played more than the odd longer format game this season, Roy hasn’t played any and Root only did early-season; Ali and Woakes are much the same.....that is no form of preparation for any test, let alone Ashes series, surely.
