Thanks, updated. Although we really do need to be getting him tied down to a new contract ASAP – this one was signed two years ago (January 2022), just after he'd made his professional debut as a sub. He's now one of the hottest properties in the EFL and a fully fledged England U21 international, so if we're going to have any chance of keeping him beyond the summer then he certainly needs to be on a par with the higher earners at the club rather than what is presumably a youth-team contract!

I mentioned this on the Johnny Rowe thread. I agree with your hypothesis of flexibility. If we really wanted to retain Rowe, first let a few of our more expensive but non-performing players go, pay Rowe what he would get at an EPL club if he moved now with the salary savings, then have some academy players on the bench more often. Hardly ever have any of Wagner's substitutions provide us with a match changing outcome (except for the match at Hull last of course - there's always an exception 🙂)!

TBH quality, not quantity! Barnes when signed was excellent, but has gone downhill so quickly! Looks an old man desperate for a fight rather than playing footy! Idah still hasn’t come anywhere near his potential so here we are relying on Sargent coming back from injury! Certainly need a good loan up front!

As for CB Baath utterly useless, Hanley injured, Gibson really poor form as a result we’re playing McClean as CB! Yes we do need to seriously develop one of our young CB’s or buy, not bothered so much but quality is really questionable again!

That's a real shame. You'd think that it'd be in our interests to extend it by a year and offer him a massive wage increase; might slightly increase his chances of staying a little longer, and get us a bigger transfer fee. Maybe ive nissed this/am being dumb which is quite likely but...

 

How do contract options work? Is it only something you can do at certain times? When the original contract runs out?

For example sorensons contract runs out in the summer but he has a year option. Can he talk to other teams now as its almost over? Can we add the extra year now? Or do we have to wait till an hour before it runs out/he's packed to go then tell him he's here another year?

With Rowe. His runs out in 2025 but with the option to 2026 it gives us extra bargaining power to sell him right?

 

I think I need to get back on football manager so I can understand this stuff!

It’s a fair criticism. He should have had his contract immediately terminated IMO. I’m surprised there wouldn’t be grounds to tear it up with no cost to us given his actions. 

I’m all for people learning from their mistakes and getting redemption, but he can do that somewhere else.

Substantially I agree. I don't mind if NCFC reconsider his position post HMP but they should certainly not be paying him in prison. If club officials think otherwise they should put it to a one vote per shareholder decision.

Academy midfielder Flynn Clarke has joined S****horpe United on a short-term loan.

The Iron currently play in the National League North where they are second in the table behind Tamworth.

Clarke joined City from Peterborough United in 2021 and has had previous loans at Walsall and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Whatever, that is the start of his rehabilitation. I just hope he has learnt his lesson.

He's out of contract this summer and highly unlikely to make the grade, especially given what's happened over the past year or so. I find it pretty bizarre that we've continued paying his wages while he was in prison – or maybe there was a mutual agreement that he wouldn't be paid while serving time? I doubt he'd have a leg to stand on legally, as he was clearly unable to perform the 'job' we're paying him for… although someone with legal knowledge will probably tell me I'm wrong and that's naïve… 😉

Well if he's been loaned out it suggests his contract here is still ongoing.

Not overly impressed my season ticket money goes towards the likes of him, but pro footballers aren't worth a lot in the morality stakes anyway so best not to overthink it.
