Preston Match Player Ratings

Recommended Posts

Greeno - 7 did ok, little chance with the goals

Colin - 5 poor, i would have rated him lower but he had no help at all on the right hand side and preston realised this and kept attacking down his area

Doherty - 9 good game - defended brilliantly against a permanant tirade of preston attacks

Fleming - 7 decent, bit unlucky with the penalty

Drury - 7 decent as ever

Etuhu - 4 broke someones leg, apart from that contributed little attacking or defensively, did not look comfortable when picking the ball up wide right

Robinson - 7 did ok sorely missed in the second half

Charlton - 6 did ok first half, faded badly in the second half

WLY 6 - did ok first half, lost in the 2nd half long balls

Ashton - 7 did what he could considering the midfield didnt turn up

Hucks - 5 poor match, missed a great chance at 1-0

subs

Brennan - 4 very poor , lucky not to give away a penalty. looks about as low on confidence as a player could be - he should be shipped out for his own good

Henderson - 5 did nothing on the right wing unlucky that worthy has earmarked this position for him

Thorne - 5 brought on late with the game already lost, little contribution but zero service

Rossi Jarvis - unlucky not to get a game considering the match situation and injuries

Worthy 3 - totally out thought by the preston manager. his inability to sign a right midfielder meaning reverting to a 442 wasnt even a particuarly good option

Green (6) - Didn''t have much chance for the goals. Hoofed the ball upfield too much for my liking.

Colin (5) - Doesn''t seem comfortable on the ball. Poor passing. Admittedly he did lack support.

Fleming (7) - Reasonably solid. Thought the penalty was harsh.

Doherty (7) - Another good game. Can be a bit over-physical at times.

Drury (7) - Steady.

Robinson (5) - Didn''t create much and did very little defensively.

Etuhu (3) - PLEASSSE don''t sign this player! What is it exactly he does well? Has done nothing during his loan spell and was absolutely awful today.

Charlton (5) - Looked like an average Championship left-back out of position. Was at fault for their 3rd goal.

McVeigh (6) - Lacked service from midfield. Did not seem to have any understanding with Ashton or Huckerby today.

Ashton (6) - Lacked service from midfield. His timing for headers seems to be improving.

Huckerby (5) - Didn''t take players on. Appeared to lack interest as the game went on.

Subs:

Brennan (5) - Another player that just isn''t good enough.

Henderson (5) - See Brennan.

Thorne (5) - Erm....see above.

Mostly agreed. Wouldn''t have given the Doc a 9 though, an 8. Ashton

deserved a 6, he didn''t do much. But then it''s hard for him &

McVeigh when they aren''t getting the ball.

Agree with everything else. We don''t want to sign Etuhu!! And Robinson

was our best midfielder today. How much are we missing Safri?

Greeno 7 made some good saves when Preston could of had 4 or 5 today.

Colin - 6 got forward more but seemed lost at the back, was skinned more times then i can remember

Drury 6- Put under pressure again by Hucks losing the ball, but semed scared to tackle or get forward...

Doherty 9 Excellent! first to everything and really looked like he was hungry for victory.. feel sorry for him as he deserved to win the game on his own

Flemmo 7, Tried his hardest and almost scored.. a gutless midfeild put the old legs under pressure.

Etuhu 2 went to tackle, missed, probably broke a Friends leg, didnt seem too concerned, then ignored the city fans after the game and applauded the Preston ones.

Robinson - 4 went missing again then got subbed.... might as well have started the game with 10 men for his contribution!

charlton 5 - good first half but seeme dscared to tackle in the 2nd.. his fault for goal number 3 when he should of known alot better!

McVeigh - 5 good first half and looked lively.. but was never going to make an impression when the ball was punted at head to him all the time

Ashton - 7 won the ball well and never really had any chances.. ran all day and for his effort he deserves a reward...

Hucks 5- Should of had a pnealty but that was his only contribution all game.

subs

thorne - 6 looked lively when he came on and tried to score.

Hendo 7, i thought he showed some of them up today! they all could of learnt from him!

Brennan 4- thank god its january.. we can off load him now!

jas :)

Green (5) - distribution poor, particularly throw out to Brennan putting us under immediate pressure and resulting in goal.  Accomplished at picking ball out of net though!

Colin (3) - woeful defensively and distribution wise, but to be fair did have Etuhu in front of him (poor sod!)

Fleming (7) - solid but up against it with no midfield

Doherty (8) - shame all don''t have his commitment and willingness.  Most improved player.

Drury (7) - steady and has been back to his best, although distribution still suspect

Robinson (4) - another Worthy "journeyman".  Was he ever fit?

Etuhu (1) - turned up as one of Preston''s most effective players, nullifying our attacking pretentions and a waste of space. Has he ever played football before?

Charlton (5) - a "has been" full back playing in midfield, trying his best but ......... say no more

McVeigh (6) - good early doors but no-one on his wavelength.  Faded as he saw little ball in second half

Ashton (7) - tried, but what more can you do with a bunch of clowns around you?  Will be more effective (soon) around better players

Huckerby (5) - started his "suspension" a week early - obviously fancies some time off.  A liability without a strong midfield to work for him, but a match winner when he does have a strong midfield working for him. An enigma .............

Brennan (3) - awful again, but how many more times do we have to keep saying so?  Another "journeyman"

Henderson (3) - just Henderson!

Thorne (3) - did he touch the ball?  Looks like he may have something about him, but not certain what

Jarvis - must wonder what the hell he has to do to get a game.

I THINK YOU ARE GENEROUS WITH THESE MARKS!

GREEN -6 NO CHANCE WITH THE GOALS

COLIN -4 CONSTANTLY SUCKED IN AND EXPOSED AS WHAT HE IS, POOR.

DRURY -6 PLAYED WELL TIL INJURY

DOHERTY -7 HEAD AND SHOULDERS OUR BEST PLAYER

FLEMING -6 PLAYED OK. INLUCKY WITH PEN. HAD BEST EFFORT FOR CITY IN ATTACK WHICH SAYS A LOT.

ROBINSON -4 CLEARLY WASNT FIT AND SHOULDNT HAVE PLAYED

ETUHU -2 WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. SHOULD NEVER PUT THE SHIRT ON AGAIN, MAKES JARRETT LOOK IMPRESSIVE

CHARLTON -5 TRIED BUT LACK OF PACE AND CREATIVITY SHOWED SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF

ASHTON -6 TRIED BUT NO SERVICE. WOULD YOU STAY AND PLAY FOR THIS DROSS?

MCVEIGH -5 NOT HIS BEST BUT STARVED OF SERVICE

HUCKERBY -4 AT £15K A WEEK HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THAT TIME WHERE TWICE IN A MINUTE HE COULDNT CONTROL THE BALL. HE NEEDS THE KICK UP THE BACKSIDE NOT MCVEIGH!

SUBS

BRENNAN -3 WAS HE THERE? HE IS NOT A FOOTBALLER IS HE?

HENDERSON -5 TRIED BUT LITTLE TIME TO IMPRESS

THORNE - 4 WAS IT WORTH BRINGING HIM ON?

WORTHY 0000000000000 ZERO SHOULD DO THE HONOURABLE THING AND RESIGN NOW

Green (6) Could have done better with their first.

Drury (7) As solid as ever.

Doherty (9) NCFC MOTM. Solid and good positioning won alot in the air.

Fleming (6) I''d like to say otherwise but very average today, but to be fair with the midfield not turning up hes under alot of pressure.

Colin (5) Unlike many i do not normally mind him but looked really weak 1 on 1 and had more than a few misplaced passes.

Robinson (5) As per usual not that bad but not that good either. Still our best midfielder though.

Charlton (4) Looked tired and is playing out of position. Did well against Burnley but was not in it today.

Etuhu (3) Non existant. Rubbish. Uncommitted. So of course we''ll sign him!

McVeigh (6) Not at his best so I''m sure he''ll be dropped! Still showed more ability than the midfield three put together.

Ashton (7) Did well in the air! Linked up well when he had the chance, but really didn''t have the service to do more.

Huckerby (5) Poor, but to be fair he is an attacking, flair player and will always be at his best with a solid midfield. Having said this he is getting paid enough to do better than he did today.

Brennan (4) Has had long enough and enough chances to make an impact on the team and has usually failed to take them, another example of that today. Can play several positions but enough of the jack of all trades and master of none players please Worthy.

Thorne (5) Not really enough time or opportunities to say much. Made no impact however.

Henderson (5) Did nothing but heads were down by the time he came on. Needs to step up to the plate cos he''s running out of time and chances. I would personally send him on loan if we can increase squad numbers.

Greeno - 6 - Couldnt do much about the goals, good at all other times, looked vary solo at times, and failed to do much for two 1-on-1''s but kept his dignity by sweeping the ball away from the feet of a striker for the 3rd one-on-one which shew he had learned from his mistakes

Colin - 5 - Got to be his worst game in a city shirt, didnt know what he was doing most of the time, the main problem is that we have no right side, meaning Colin is badly exposed and left open to attack down the right as we have no right midfielder to support him......

Doherty - 9 [MOM] - Once again, man of the match, and once again a great performance, stopped everything really, and none of the goals conceeded came through him, or where he was playing,. we simply became weak down the left when drury left.....

Fleming - 6 - quite a good game, harsh penalty decision, mucked up once conceeding the 3rd goal, also should have challenged for the 1st goal, maybe its tiredness, but hopefully he will be better next game

Drury - 9 - Close to being man of the match, didnt put a foot wrong, made some great and important tackles, rarely giving away anything, looked confident as usual and was pretty good going foward, almost man of the match but because he had to depart Doherty seems the more significant figure.

Etuhu - 4 - Looked out of position to say the least, the only thing he did all day was break his ex-team mates leg, really looked uncomftable and nothing like the Etuhu i was hearing on the radio last week........

Robinson - 7 - Was missed in the second half, despite him not really doing much in the first half, you could notice he was gone

Charlton - 6 - Did good defending wise, didnt have much of a chance going foward, dissapeared in the second half as norwich conceeded two goals......

WLY 7 - Some neat touches trying to lift things and get things moving, failed to get much service and didnt really get alot of chance to create anything, seemed a bit distant from Ashton today.

Ashton - 7 - Not a bad game, again dont think he had a shot on goal - simply because he had no service, WLY tried but again he didnt get the service, the midfield is missing SAFRI already.....

Hucks - 5 - Poor poor game, really getting worst as the games go on over Xmas, the 4 games in 8 days has really got to him, and hopefully he will get back to his normal self, running at players and getting those vital crosses in, Had litrally no control today, had the touch of a brick wall, just couldnt keep the ball at his feat, loosing it every time.

subs

Brennan - 5 - I thought he didnt do bad when he came on, looked quite lively then faded out as the half went on, should have burried an easy chance

Henderson - 5 - IS A STRIKER, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, WHEN WILL WORTHY LEARN??!?!?!?!?!?!?! Ran about like a headless chicken totally out of position (still did better than Etuhu.....)

Thorne - 6 - Came on and made a complete havok at the back - or rather would have done if he got the ball, i found it amusing, 3-0 down and we were playing the long ball up to Mcveigh with both Thorne and Ashton tall target men like players, expecting McVeigh to win the ball, ------- what have Norwich been doing in training? LOL!

Green 6 - solid enough but distribution too hurried at times.

Colin 6 over exposed in the first half in particular as Etuhu went walkabouts and left colin facing 2 on 1 but did ok.

Flem 6 A real in and out game - solid in parts but woeful in others - the one player where tiredness of 4 in 8 looked a genuinely acceptable excuse.  We do need to use him sparingly and another partner for Doc is needed. Had citys best effort on goal (of the lamentable 3/4 we scraped..)

Doc 8 - A class above everyone yesterday.

Drury 7 - played well and surprised at his sub as not obviously injured.

Charlie 5 - Was absolutely everywhere but his distribution was abysmal - anyone would think he was a defender with passing like that:)

Etuhu 4 - Appalling.  Looked lost and bereft of understanding of what he was doing on the pitch.

Robinson 6 Clearly targeted for his sore ribs and played manfully despite lack of fitness.  Best midfielder and sorely missed in the second half.

Hux 5 Nothing came off and simply did get into the game.

Ashton 7  No service at all and left competing for aerial balls all day - did well in the air but had nothing else to play with.

McVeigh 6.  Must have a repetitive strain injury at watching the ball fly too and fro over his head - he is 5 foot nowt stop passing to him at 6 foot off ground level...

Brennan - 5  Poor in midfield (nice backpass early in the second half :) ) but better at left back.  Why not use Rossi J?

Hendo 5 - lots of energy but little impact (one peach of a curling shot apart) as again played out of position

Thorne - 5  No service to play with.

A poor performance and the second time we had a midfield with 2 left sided defenders and a midfielder pushed sideways to accomodate them.  Too reminiscent of too many games from the 1st half of the season - quality needed to replace Safri and soon...

Green: (8) One good stop and one good one-on-one against Agyemang. No chance with goals. Solid.

Drury: (8) Again, committed and solid, despite having a useless idiot in front of him. Back to old, reliable form.

Colin: (7) No help all day against one of the best strikers in the division - tried to cover both Nugent and the full-back but was fighting a losing battle. Rarely had any options for a pass when going forward.

Doherty: (10) Solid, committed, best player on the pitch. Tried to get across to help Colin when possible as well. Should be made captain. Only player who could come out of the game with head held high. Put his foot throught the ball when required (Please take note Messrs Fleming/Charlton)

Fleming: (6) Somehow got away with fouling the bloke he was marking every time the ball went in the air. Looked fairly solid, but gave away dumb penalty.

Huckerby: (3) Complete waste of space. Scared to take on full-back. Should be dropped sharpish. Gave Drury no help whatsoever.

Etuhu: (5) Played out of position, and therefore spent most of the game wandering to where he was most familiar. No help to Colin who needed the kind of support Jonson gave Edworthy last season.

Robinson: (6) Solid but unexciting. Put himself about well. Improving.

Charlton: (6) Another played out of position, gave away dumb third goal. Unimpressive.

Ashton: (7) Still not a hit man, yet Norwich insist on whacking the ball at his head and hoping for the best, ''Iwan-esque''. No service = no goals.

McVeigh: (8) Little service but some nice footwork including at least 4 nutmegs in the first half. Easily most creative player on team.

Subs: Brennan (4) Still awful, not a midfielder, not a left back, not a footballer. Not suire what Worthington hoped to acheive by bringing him on.

Henderson: (8) Out of position, yet still gave 100% and tried to inject some passion into the team. Nice effort near the end.

Thorne: (5) Acheved nothing.

Worthington: (5) Tried to change tempo by bringing on Henderson but did it too late. Insists upon playing half the team out of position and leaving his full-backs isolated

Referee: (3) Had no control over game. Only gave fouls if his asssistants flagged first. Suprised he had the guts to give the stone-wall penalty . . .

PNE: (5) Nothing special but fairly solid. Davies said that was their best performance of the season so I can only feel sdorry for the fans . . . Two good centre-halves - big and quick. Mears played Huckerby off the park (but I could probably have done the same!)

Bit hard on PNE I thought, thought this was interesting from Lancashire Evening Post or something equally northern,

"We were brilliant, absolutely top class," drooled Kelly later. And it was hard to argue after a display of the highest quality against a side who had won their last five, including a 3-1 victory at Sheffield United.
Considering North End''s squad was so paper thin – the 16 on duty were the only senior players fit – it was a massive achievement.
Full-back Alexander had to play in the centre of midfield alongside Nowland following the departure of David Jones and injuries to Brian O''Neil and Paul McKenna.
When Nowland was hurt, Callum Davidson had to take over in the engine room.
Winger Lewis Neal was also an absentee after taking a knock against Coventry. So at one point even Nugent was pressed into midfield duties to help out.

Well... Ive tried my best to forget two days ago, so theres no way I could ever do decent ratings.

I will say however, that Etuhu was terrible, Huckerby was terrible (At this point id usually give a few examples of things that annoyed me about him from the game, but id be here all day), Deano was pretty poor, Colin was awful. God everything was terrible! The referee was awful too, but even if we had Brian Gunn refeering we wouldnt have ever scored.

MOTM - Drury. Looked solid, considering he was marking two people most of the time.
