West Ham- The verdict

Recommended Posts

Well, I think we done well, but my ratings are as follows;

Green-6, could have stopped the 2nd goal, get well soon!

Drury-8, Done very well, again. Playing a league lower than what he''s capable of.

Doherty and Fleming-9, once again, with very little help from midfield, both done very well. Doherty has been in my opinion our best player this year.

Jarvis-6, A bit harsh giving him Etherhington to defend against on his debut, took time to settle in, one for the future.

Etuhu-4, Showing his worth at the moment, is it just coinsidence that since he''s been out of the Preston team, they''ve gone on a 16 game unbeaten run?

Jarrett-5, Average, passed well but refuses to get stuck in.

Charlton-3, Beats Etuhu to win my Donkey of the Week award.

Henderson-8, I''m not a Hendo fan, but fair does to the lad, he done well today.

Thorne-5, Was he on the pitch?

McVeigh-6, Quiet again, hopefuuly will get a new contract though due to his recent good form.

Worthy-6, With limited number of players, he done well. We could easily have taken it to a replay.

Riley-4, Gave us a dodgy pen (I''m not complaining!), which sums him up. Despite this, favoured the Premiership team.

One last thought; Marlon Harewood. Is it just me, or he is a diver and an all-round dirty player. Don''t worry, after he got ''fouled'' by the Doc, I gave him a piece of my mind; which he very kindly told me to shut up about. Nice guy!

agree mostly with you thorpe.thought hendo got stuck in and was lively, but no end product for me. unable to craft a goal. charlie on left wing was limited today. thought electing him to be deadball specialist for the day was a mistake. mcveigh was lively and received the ball well, threatened but again lacked end game today.verdict - too much hoofing, not enough creativity - players on display lacked the nous to create a chance - never looked like scoring.

Much improved performance from the Preston game.  There were several periods where we stroked the ball around like the good old days. I was pleased with the commitment today and from what little we say of Spillane he looks a very confident player, who sadly is unlikley to be given another chance once the regulars are fit again.

I know several posters on this site knock playing youngsters, but I thought Jarvis and Henderson gave their all today, and linked quite well on the right hand side, and deserve an extended run in the side.

The pies were good (Thai Chicken....Good call Delia), and the Bovril went down a treat. The West Ham fans sang their hearts out and managed to stand up during the whole match without being challenged unlike us in the home stands.

As for the stuff on the pitch, errrrrrrr on the whole it was a lack lustre performance with the odd moment of good football which if we had a striker we could have managed to at least get a replay or get through to the next round. No disrepect to the lads on the pitch who on the whole battled well, but today they were outclassed and our own injuries/suspensions/international duties hit us very hard.

I agree that the ''youngsters'' started to settle later in the game and that Spillane looks like a useful, confident player, it just seems a bit much to have expected Hendo and Jarvis to be able to look after our entire right side against a couple of very good (fringe England squad) left sided players - not that we had any choice. But agreed they did give their all, and all three deserve consideration in future team selections, albeit in more suitable positions. Didn''t really see enough of Cave-Brown to get much idea.
