Are we missing out on primary targets?

That rule only applies in the Championship though, if I'm not mistaken. Should we be relegated, we can always loan Mair out for his development and use a different young keeper for this emergency if need be.

I’m pretty much working on the assumption Norwich will be relegated.

I assume Webber et al are doing the same, and are managing the budget accordingly.

Which means, if we do stay up, we'll have such an excess of cash reserves we can expand the stadium! Brilliant logic.

Don't start that again 🤭

Second favourites for relegation already without a player in training so the whole world thinks we will go down. We may be a minority who think we have a chance.

Who are favourites? Not sure Blades are better, Brighton, new Manager, change of philosophy will be up against it and Newcastle are going out of their way to get relegated....... we could do this 🙏

Sell all the young guns and build a 100k stadium in the Bacon Lettuce and Tomato triangle. Free Monorail transport from Thorpe station.

What's not to like 😎😀😋

Sounds great. We should advertise that on a bus.

I'm available to stroll up and down The Walk with a billboard but my charges are quite high.

Hmmm.  My take is that the recruitment strategy last year was to look for value through various routes like with talent but who'd lost their way or were undervalued for some reason (Pukki, Leitner) or identifyling talented youngsters like Buendia, or bringing through youth players where previously the club setup seemed to not permit that.  Or indeed getting a proven championship striker like Rhodes for a modest cost for a season.

Going up we have a squad many of whom are already attracting Prem interest, and several that I fully expect will end up with a top team, in the Prem or abroad.  Looking back at our seasons in the Prem since 2009, how many players can you say that about ?  I can't think of any.

So it doesn't surprise me that Webber is taking a cautious approach to improving the squad this summer.  There's the risk of disrupting the very strong squad ethos, we already have a relatively strong squad compared to our recent campaigns, and we can already see he's continuing the search for value signings.  I wouldn't be surprised if he does spend a bit of money on one big signing or possibly even a couple, but that's all.

I always pay zero attention to bookies odds and "experts" forecasts at this stage.  Invariably the promoted teams are among the favourites for relegation.  And they never accurately forecast the surprise strugglers among the Prem mid-table sides.  It all means nothing.  When we went up under Lambert we were solid favourites for relegation.  Yet when we went back up under Neil and then strengthened the squad in January, on paper we were much better set up to survive.

For me, our squad and style of play last season are as good at creating goalscoring opportunities as most of the teams in the Prem.  We had some obvious defensive weaknesses although equally we were extremely solid much of the time and it's interesting that we've had more interest from top teams for defensive players than for others.  To me this implies maybe our defensive lapses were partly down to the defensive midfield, and partly down to inexperience.  In which case we maybe be able to improve that area via coaching and bringing in a quality player at DM (probably the one position where I think it's essential we make a decent signing).

So I am hopeful for next season, but realistic it won't be easy.  And equally, if we do go back down, I am confident we won't find ourself with the dead wood and excessive contracts we had last time.

The statistics suggest a relegation is a reasonably likely outcome. As a fan I hope it doesn’t happen, but being realistic it might.

Whatever happens though I get the feeling that Webber will improve us. If we drop, we’ll do so with players ready to step in to make us stronger championship competitors even if we have to sell a few of our stars.

Equally with some good luck and hard work we have side that can improve even if we sign no one else. Besides which there is plenty of time left in this transfer window and one imagines that Mr Webber and his team are still working on pulling some more rabbits out of their hat. Dernic certainly looks to be an exciting and potentially exceptional value signing. There may be one or two more to come.

Let’s not forget either that we now have the attraction of premiership football to lure players of this calibre.

We might be a small club by premiership standards with modest means but we are now very well run. Even though relegation is the elephant in the room we also have plenty to be optimistic about. Indeed a mid table finish is well within the realms of what we are capable of if all goes well.

I fear just good luck and hard work will not be enough...you need the players too. The core of our team is up to it , but you can't expect to rely on your best eleven the whole season long.

There will be injuries ...then you need someone to step in...They will need to pull a few white rabbits out of the hat imo! The striker was a good example

We also have the loan market to tap in to lets not forget

I think the prem is still limited to 2 from English clubs?  With Roberts taking one of them that only leaves one slot.

plus unlimited> "season long" loans from non-English clubs.

Of course the underlying problem is the Suffolk Socialists will not sell to anyone who will make the club more competitive at this level.

I see no reason to believe that this visit to the EPL will turn out differently to the previous three. As things stand, clubs who we ought to be competitive against are a long way ahead of us (Southampton, Burnley, Watford, Bournemouth, Palace, etc)

Historically, Delia has been very poor in defence so without proper EPL players in key defensive positions we are looking at some cricket scores against us next season.

That being the case, I am very suspicious of Delia's motives in telling the boy Webber to get back to the EPL in the first place. It can only be because she wants to extend her club record lead over Sir Arthur for the most relegations by club owner. See Appendix below:

Most Relegations by Club Owner since 1956:

Delia 4

Sir Arthur 3

Chase 1

Watling 0

Mate, she's 70 odd, her best days as a CB are well behind her, how'd you think you'd fair against top athletes - cut her some slack.

Vince why is your glass always half empty? To get the most relegations Delia had to also get the most promotions too. So your stats are actually saying that she is the best of this group, not the worst.

No, no, no.

The best of this group is clearly Watling as he took the club from Division 3 obscurity to the top flight for the very first time without any relegations along the way.

Delia on the other hand has had every success cancelled out by failure so the club hasn't made any forward progress and is at best an EPL/Championship yo-yo club.

For the club to make any forward progress from its current position, it clearly needs to be sold to someone who will make it competitive at EPL level. Leicester City would be a useful example of what could be achieved by Norwich if there was the will to make it happen.

The Suffolk Socialists do not have the will because they firmly believe that all potential suitors are either ready-made demons or demons-in-the-making.

In that case Delia should be told to sell the club to the Vatican then. Like Delia, the Pope is a Catholic and we already have half the colors right. And reportedly the Vatican has more money than God.... well you know what I mean....a perfect solution surely? :classic_tongue:
