Possibly the dumbest article I've ever read on the Pinkun

Recommended Posts

True Mr. S., it is hardly a rags to riches story but realistically you have to compare it with the spending of the big six at the time to properly evaluate their achievement.

A bit like City last season, some shrewd expenditure, some chance/clever finds, some decent youth development and, of course, the right manager at the right time.

All meaning that Khun Vichai didn't have to dip overmuch into that £180m (didn't mean that the prices in his duty free shops were lowered in any way though.)

Ranieri would have been on a decent wedge I suspect.

Apart from starting and finishing away it looks like we've gotten luckier than any other team to me. Liverpool when they might be slightly undercooked and tired having played a game a few days beforehand and Man City when they may potentially not have anything to play for in the league and may want to rest players for a cup final.

Who knows, liverpool could start like a train and the title might go down to the last day but those two fixtures wouldn't be any easier in any other slot, they just might be when we play them though if we're lucky.

From espnfc.com

LEICESTER

Kasper Schmeichel - £2m
Danny Simpson - £2m
Robert Huth - £3m
Wes Morgan - £1m
Christian Fuchs - Free
Marcin Wasilewski - Free
Marc Albrighton - Free
Danny Drinkwater - £1m
N'Golo Kante - £5.6m
Riyad Mahrez - £400,000
Shinji Okazaki - £7m
Jamie Vardy - £1m
Mark Schwarzer - Free
Jeffrey Schlupp - Free
Demarai Gray - £3.8m
Andrej Kramaric - £7m
Yohan Benalouane - £5.6m
Andy King - Free
Gokhan Inler - £5m
Leonardo Ulloa - £10m

TOTAL: £54.4m

The previous calculation I found was nearer £60m, so was possibly made at a different stage.

And Gray, Kramaric, Benalouane, Inler and Ulloa were bit part players at best, and they cost £31m out of the £54m.

All this talk of Leicester is a good example of why the original article is so silly.

I bet when the fixture lists came out that season people could have moaned that teams who had Leicester in the last couple of games would have an easy run in- after all they only just avoided relegation the season before.

Right now we don't know if having Man City in the last game of the season is an awful game- they could be in the thick of a title fight or they could have nothing to play for an a Cup final to rest players for. Similarly Burnely at home on the penultimate game of the season could be against a team in a relegation battle or a team happily mid table.

We were away first and last games last season. What were the expectations for those? As it turned out playing Villa away last game was probably better than a couple of weeks earlier.

Look this is why we need to adopt Leicester as our new rivals. Apart from also being the focus of their county, they play in Blue and stole our best player (OK we sold him to them) and a manager and hence a promotion; we can also point out that the major trophy that they won wasn't really an achievement after all. So unlike if we use Spurs or Wet Spam we can continue to have a proper chip on our shoulder about a similar sized team - always welcome - as the other lot down the road really have become irrelevant.
