Reported to be about to offer Frank Lampard the managers role. Maybe no one else wants it.

Interesting one, I doubt he'd be able to turn it down if they do come knocking

Poison chalice, aren't they on a one season transfer ban? If that's the case, Tammy Abraham and the fella who was at Wigan last year may get a game but Chelsea won't be challenging.

Thought they’d go for Santo who actually has more than one season of managerial experience, and has managed in the PL. Lampard hardly set the championship on fire did he? After a naive start and zero tactical awareness, he did show he can adapt and learn, which he did as the season progressed. But is that really want Chelsea want? A very inexperienced manager with a lot to learn? Along with a transfer embargo? Crazy

The transfer ban will probably be delayed for the summer window due to Chelsea’s appeal (which they will lose).

No manager who is at a high level will want to go to Chelsea while the ban hangs over the clubs head. Chelsea are targeting Lampard as the fans might not scream for him to be sacked after 6 months, like they do with every other manager they have.

The club don’t spend money any more and having Lampard and Jody Morris there will mean having a manager who is prepared to develop younger players. Previous managers knew they had to deliver immediately so wouldn’t risk using them. There was zero incentive for them to do so.

Lampard is a thoroughly decent guy and I hope he does well. Would be good to see and English manager do well at a large team just to prove it is possible.

Byg- it was reported yesterday that, whilst they are appealing, they have not asked for the ban to be suspended until the end of the appeal, which to me says they know they will lose and this is going to be a transition period anyway so get it over and done with...

Whoever takes the job could mean that our early meeting with them becomes a much more winnable game...
