The Suffolk Svengali

Recommended Posts

aka Paul Lambert, aka Mr. Motivator, aka the Messiah, seems to have cast his spell on their new signing James Norwood, aka League Two pub player.

The player's initial press conference suggests that he has already been got at by the Famous Grouse:

"Ipswich are a Premier League club," states Norwood. Well he should know after all, having, at the age of 29, never played higher than the League 2  level.

Hmm. Mr. Norwood, Ipswich are a League 1. club. Look at the tables at the beginning of the coming season rather than listen to your manager's habitual bullshine.

Does he mistakenly think he's signed for Norwich City?:classic_biggrin::classic_biggrin:

The hype on TWTD about this player has been truly amazing with a level of the OTT which fully reflects the parlous state of that club. Not only has he been compared to our own Grant Holt, even Jamie Vardy has been mentioned.

Our own forum here would not have matched the frenzy had we re-signed Harry Kane.

Oh well it will be fun to  witness the disintegration of all the usual over-expectation which has become the norm down there.

Next season will be fascinating, not only due to our own impending campaign either. Quest will still be the occasional watch prior to MotD.

He might end up being a decent signing for them at that level. But he’s only one player and isn’t going to solve all their ills...

He could indeed and it is a long time since any of their signings have really lived up to the usual hype. Perhaps he will indeed be the exception.

I suppose there's no point in being a football supporter if you are devoid of expectation for your club. It's the hope that maintains you in desperate times after all.

They do seem to have made a habit of expecting something positive to happen without good reason for as long as I can remember though. It's probably something to do with their obsession with their so-called 'history.'

The problem of expectation occurs when something is expected to happen without good reasons for that expectation. If they continue to believe that their expectations alone will bring them what they want, they are surely using magical thinking and setting themselves up for disappointment.

For example:  "Norwood is a late developer, just like Grant Holt, Rikki Lambert and Jamie Vardy.

A natural goalscorer will get goals whatever the level.

Get the supply line right and we will romp this league."

Perhaps they should sign Wes as well then?

As we currently sit astride our lofty perch a condescending analysis of their collective psychotic state is rather easy after all.

It's also enjoyable, especiially as it could have been the other way around.

There is a lot to take the mick out of Ipswich fans for.

Getting excited about signing a new striker isn't one of them.

Watched him a couple of times during the playoffs and he looked Ok. Strong and no nonsense but really didn't look much more than League 1 level. Only a couple of games I know but Grant Holt he more certainly isn't.

Norwood looks like a decent signing, I'm surprised a bigger fish didn't come along as gazump them. Here's hoping he was just a bit of a one season wonder and fails to make the step up.

Expect him to beaver around up front - after all his name is gnaw - wood.  (I'm here all week 🙂 ).

I find this playing with names thing quite amusing .... good old fashioned schoolboy humour at it's finest.

Frank Lumpalard was always my favourite, but James Nogood might turn out to be more fun should it be proven to be the case.

You know what, now we're two divisions ahead, I think I've lost interest in laughing at them tbh. They really have become a pitiful mess, and Lambert encapsulates this so well.

I kind of agree with this, ya know.

It almost seems pointless to discuss them, given their utter irrelevance to our standing now. However, it is always good fun to have a little chuckle at their expense.

I always liked "Can't Control", as some West Ham fans used to call Carlton Cole.

You've got to hand it to Paul Lambert, he's got a team that weren't good enough for the Championship, believing they are Premiership !

Apparently they've beaten Hull and Swansea to his signature, the fact that he probably wouldn't start for either Club or make the step up 2 Divisions hasn't been discussed.

As has been mentioned, he's 28 and never played above League 2, looking at his YouTube clips, he's handy, nothing special but if he thinks he will get the service, or the help from the opposition's defence that he got last season he's going to be disappointed.

Tbh, I feel sorry for him, there's so much pressure on him to perform he's got no chance of living up to expectations.

I think he's a decent signing for them. They played some ok stuff at times last season but just had zero goal threat. If he can rectify that then I expect them to up the right end of the table. Judge also should be a decent player at that level if he stays fit ansd they do have a few other quite decent midfielders.

Seems as though lambert is looking to build a side/squad in the mould of our league 1 side with Norwood as the Holty type figurehead up front.

Lambert is looking to replicate what he knows has worked before. He will build a side around Norwood in the same way he did around Holt. Whether he has the GK/ Martin / Hoolahan dimension remains to be seen.

I watched Norwood in the playoffs and he looked OK. Right up PL's street - bit nasty .

The standard in the League 1 play off was dreadful, let alone alone  League 2. Norwood will do OK for them .

They didn't manage a goal a game last season so a striker, after losing two good ones, was imperative. I expect him to score ifhe gets the service. And that is another area they need to improve. Not rocket science to work out that we played as many short passes in Europe as anyone and were one of the high scorers.

Even in L1, the top teams played passing football so it isn't just about Norwood its the rest of them.

I don't know for certain, Big Vince, but it might have something to do with the fact that Ipswich are Norwich's rivals.

Why start an Ipswich thread on a Norwich City board??

You only read it when you saw "The Suffolk Svengali".

You thought it said "The Suffolk Socialists".......

Not anymore. They are now 2 divisions below and Canary minds ought to be turning to the much bigger fish that have to be fried.

How about we adopt Leicester City - they play in blue, are reasonably close to us geographically, and they wave won something recently. Oh and they stole our manager, a promotion and our best player too - O.K we sold him but so what, he was ours once.
