Wish they’d employ a decent commentator.

Jonathan Pierce is awful and very patronising.

And he goes “full Robot Wars” mode at the slightest bit of excitement.

****.

If any of the knockout stages goes to pens it could easily take an hour extra.

And if you are looking to get the 17:05 train out of Norwich at next season's home games you've got no chance.

There will be a few missed buses with VAR next season, this has gone on for ages.

Or not. How the flying f**k was there only 5 minutes injury time?! There were 8 minutes between the foul and the retaken penalty going in, never mind the 4 goals and substitutions that took place. 5 minutes?! You could've trebled that and got a feasible chunk of injury time.

That's sketchy as, something proper fishy there. I was looking forward to a fire and brimstone end with two teams for whom a draw did nothing.

God help us if this is how VAR will work next season, that referee didn’t have a clue, should have been at least another five minutes added. Goalkeepers will never ever save a penalty now

Yep, I dont think anyone believed the game was over when she blew the whistle!

It would appear that there is no consistently applied system for adding VAR time.

Take the timing away from the referee like in Rugby Union. The miked up ref shouts time on and time off, so all know, no hiding place.  Someone in the VAR office can keep the time.  That way, proper account for VAR, substitutions and goal celebrations.  For far too long the ball in action percentage has been far too low at 50%ish, because no ref properly accounts for time.  Ball in action percentages should be 60 to 70% really.

On the contrary, it will keep goalkeepers honest and you will get genuine world class saves as they have to wait until the ball is kicked.  It should improve their focus as they will have to learn to react to what is happening rather than trying to put the opponent off by bouncing around/moving about off the line etc.    Suspect the art of the penalty save will improve as a result of this as the goalkeepers get used to the "new world".

There will probably be more goals scored rather than saved than there are at the moment, but then penalties are supposed to favour the attacking side......and penalties should be genuine as a result of VAR too, so perhaps we will see a little more honesty in the game from now on.

One of the main things we will see is attacking players deliberately kicking the ball into defenders hands. Mane did it in the Champions’ League final and clubs will see it is an easy way to get a penalty - which are currently a 75% chance of a goal - but the new keeper rules will become an 80% chance.

Hope everyone likes penalties, because we will be seeing a lot of them next season, for and against. Norwich might need to find someone who can actually score them now.

The new rules for handball are a joke.

I keep thinking back to the one given against us at Wigan. No way should it have been a pen when honestly trying to block the shot and it hit Godfreys leg first. That’s the kind of decision VAR should be overturning as there’s absolutely no intent to play the ball with hand. But no, they’ll be the ones if not given on field, will be reviewed and then a pen awarded. As said, a season defined by penalties coming up...

This  may  be wrong but i have an idea that for next season if the ball is deflected onto the arm that won't (or shouldn't!) be given as a penalty. I think after the Wigan game Farke was told this, and made a sarcastic comment about being a bit late to help us.

VAR being used quickly and to overturn a wrong decision. This is what it’s needed for, simple black and white decisions. An obvious mistake sorted out.

VAR still needs sorting out. For offsides it works. For virtually everything else it’s subjective and therefore open to debate.

Maybe a number of challenges system like Cricket and Tennis should be brought in. This game showed what can happen when the ref loses control. Cameroon were asking for referrals to VAR constantly.

Also the effect on Cameroon led to the ref bottling out of decisions that should have been made. A pen and a red not given that surely most people agree should have been. Subjective yes but all the guidelines in the rules of the game show the wrong decisions were made in those incidents.

This game was about the ref but that could easily become Marriner, Oliver or Moss losing control and the PL becoming a farce.

"Steph Houghton doesn't go down easily" says Pearce.

I thought it was all a right shambles. Didn't really think it was a back pass. Thought the VAR decisions were mixed so not 100% and then one they should have referred on Parris was ignored and produced just a yellow. The ref got two VAR decisions totally wrong so how is it working?

Too many England players cannot pass it consistently and Houghton just runs a round at the back doing very little and leaving to the others and just sweeps up and the pundits eulogise. Bright can't pass but she does jump and tackle.

Parris only beats her woman now and again and gives the ball away too much.

If it wasn't for Bronze and Scott we wouldn't be where we are.

That’s the problem with VAR, it’s brilliant with black and white decisions but it cannot be blamed for subjective decisions. The foul on Kirby in the box should’ve been a pen, why wasn’t it? The ref will say the ball had gone, however that should be irrelevant. The foul on Houghton should’ve been a red, why wasn’t it? I have no defence for that decision other than the ref wanted to just end the game and get out of the stadium (and tournament) alive.

VAR will just replay what’s happened. If there’s a poor ref officiating or having a bad day, there’ll still be some bad decisions and ultimately, results. However because technology is now being used, the fallout will be greater
