R.I.P. Roy Blower.

Recommended Posts

A couple of hours ago i received a telephone call to tell me that Roy passed away yesterday morning surrounded by his family. In recent years he had been suffering from Parkinsons which had taken a great toll on him physically and confined him to a wheelchair.

Those older supporters amongst us will know that his love for Norwich City had commenced in the 1950's and Roy was involved in the blanket collection of 1957 which helped save the club. Roy was a friend of everyone who came into contact with him and his stories concerning Norwich City over the decades were endless and he served this city as both Lord Mayor and councillor.

Roy was a good friend and i will miss him greatly.

When i know further details i will pass them on but there is little doubt Archant will run a feature on his life in the coming days.

Sad news indeed. A feature on his life would fill a paper and more.

You were always a good friend to him Tilly. Thoughts with his family and friends. RIP Roy.

R.I.P Roy. My dad spoke about the blanket collection, it illustrates the community spirit of our supporters, and what a relationship it has been over the years. I thank you for your part in that.

RIP Roy. I didn’t know him personally but I kind of feel like I did. Always seemed a real gent and Norwich City through and through.

RIP Mr Blower. Was an honour to meet him on one occasion (a peace march down Chappie)... as friendly and down to earth a Lord Mayor as you would wish to chat with. Very aware of his admirable commitment to the club and city , which he put into practice over many years of voluntary service.

Really sad news to wake up to, so pleased he saw us promoted & so pleased that I managed to have a chat with him at one of our recent events.

RIP Roy, thoughts with his family

Chatted to Roy on a couple of occasions about all things NCFC some years back. Remember feeling what a real gentleman he was. Very sad news. RIP Roy.

Thank you TIL 1010  for sharing this sad news.

Roy was a first rate supporter of Norwich City in every way. He was willing to give so much time, energy and indeed money to the club he loved. He was a leader for Canary fans. We have much to be thankful for the part he played, sometimes as a goalkeeper helping to save our club and sometimes as a striker looking to assist City reach it's goals.

TIL 1010  you have lost a good friend but you keep so many wonderful memories of the times you shared.

I never met Roy but, having worked for ECN in pretty much my first job (and just before it became Archant) I remember seeing his columns in the papers. Or even just a letter from him. He seemed very active in that regard.

Sad to hear this news. RIP Roy.

The last occasion I encountered Roy was at the Club’s AGM last November.

Upon receiving the microphone to ask his question, a member of the top table, I didn’t catch who, said, “it’s lovely to see you, Roy.”

The room burst into a spontaneous heartfelt round of applause, which genuinely touched Roy.

Clearly a man close to the hearts and minds around the Club who will be missed by many.

Rest in peace, Roy.

Very sad news indeed. Roy was Norwich through and through and loved the club and the fine city of Norwich. Not only was he a great City fan, but he was also a thoroughly decent bloke. I first met him in the late 1980s during the anti ID campaign and this carried on in to the 1990s with the Chase Out campaign and the work of the Anglian Football Supporters Association and the Norwich City Independent Supporters Association. Roy was at the heart of all of these campaigns. It was heart rending to see the effect of Parkinson's Disease on Roy, but so appropriate that in his last year supporting Norwich City he saw us win the Championship and promotion to the Premier League. RIP Roy and thanks for posting the sad news TIL 1010.

Roy was a terrific public servant to the city of Norwich. I will always remember how pleasantly surprised I was when he phoned me out of the blue to express support for an article I had written in the Pink 'Un newspaper about the Suffolk Socialists' leadership of the club in the late 1990s. Top man. My thoughts go to his nearest and dearest.
