well done city & Worthy.

Recommended Posts

Credit where its due - City

team played well today. especially ashton - finally got reward for hard

effort, also to mcveigh as a skillful playing partner to deano,

nice one fleming -  looked good alongside  reliable doc.

Centre midfield looked solid and creative - good passing by saf &

robbo. Hucks still down on pace, but had a good game - quality cross

for deano''s opener.

well done worthy for keeping it simple and

picking virtually the same players who finished at crewe - bar hughes

& dicko, mcveigh alonside deano looks nailed on as long as wee man

keeps his form - mckenzie will find it hard to start.

special mention for worthy''s courage in picking flem to start left side

of doc and keeping doc on the right.  This combo looked tight.

City played second half like top 3 team.

Does that make three consecutive home wins? Crikey, it really is

Christmas. The players and management deserve praise when they get things right.

Such a shame that more often than not this season they haven''t.

For a spell in the second half our attacking play was sublime

(McVeigh''s chip!). Only an inspired display by Niemi kept the score

vaguely respectable. When you watch Hucks, Ashton, and McVeigh play

like that, you can see just how much Norwich have underachieved this

season so far.

After enduring possibly the worst opening 15 minutes of a city match

I''ve seen for a while (just how quiet was Carrow Road?), the team

rewarded us for braving the cold with an excellent comeback. But I

can''t tell you how angry I was to see Hughes and Wright stand idly by

as Southampton cruised down our flank to score in the opening ten

minutes. Thankfully both players

at least looked to atone for their mistakes by getting forward. But

it''s exactly that type of poor play that sees us head into Christmas in

the bottom half of the table.

Credit to Safri for getting the team up and running when we were

behind. I thought he had an excellent match simply through keeping the

game flowing, and pushing Southampton onto the back foot. We''ll really miss him when he leaves. Even Fleming

showed he can still do a job. But just how consistent he can be, I

suppose we''ll find out in due course.

So well done lads, you''ve cheered me up no end. But remember, it''s all about consistency. There are

12 teams still above us in this league, and any city fan that settles

for that is no fan at all.

Yeah, that really was a great performance. I just hope we are able to field this side with some consistency, as you say we will miss Safri when he goes. I think the best thing about it is that it showed just how well Mcveigh and Huckerby can play in the same starting line up. It seems as though they have been viewed as an either/or choice up until now.  Thought they tore Southampton apart at points this afternoon.

I too thought I should add my thoughts of today''s game.  I thought Dean Ashton was outstanding, taking all his chances well, denied by a great goalkeeper for others, but the whole forward line were equally up to the job.  McVeigh was brilliant, his thoughtful runs giving Deano plenty of options and ammo.  Hucks was a far better player than a month ago too.  For me, the star of today''s show was Safri.  He was almost Crook-like in centre midfield, spraying delightful passes to both sides of the pitch for Hucks and McVeigh or Ashton  to attack.

The back seemed solid enough, though apart from the final ten minutes had little danger to deal with.  A shame with the first goal, but at least the whole team rallied and got an equaliser.

It was great to see some really good attacking passing football, not perfect or even promotion form yet, but it''s a start and I wonder what might have been had this formation and personnel been used with more consistency earlier.  I know several players have been injured to prevent this, but I feel McVeigh is underused and the tactics today were far, far better with the result we did play very good football for quite a few periods in the match.

I hope that Dean''s hat trick will convince the board not to sell him AT ANY PRICE.

Yes, well done city!

BUT we still only played 45 MINUTES of football and NOT 90

We need to learn how to play from the kick-off and finish at the final whistle.

and is conceeding a goal a game a good thing?

To be honest it was more like 70/75 IMO. After about twenty minutes of long ball we got it on the deck and dominated.
