Van wink 2,994 Posted May 9, 2019 Managed an 83 minute equaliser against Mansfield Town to keep their playoff alive and hopes of promotion to League 1. Not long ago they were a Conference team but soon could well be thrashing Ipswich Town. I'm sure the Scummers would enjoy a trip to Rodney Parade
city4eva 202 Posted May 10, 2019 they may not have got that if the ref had done his job of sending off O brien .

Scummers will have to contend with Lower League refs, something else for them to look forward to on a possible wet cold night in Newport.😀 Never has the gap been wider. canarydan23 4,060 Posted May 10, 2019 Yeah me too, never been a fan of Welsh teams taking up places in the English leagues.
GenerationA47 737 Posted May 10, 2019 Way I see it, it’s a win-win: either way, there could be a third yellow-clad to cheer on v. the old blue pony crew

Europe_93 11 Posted May 10, 2019 I only live 20 minutes away, and my lad plays for Newport's Academy U7's so have watched a few games this season (including the FA Cup game the day after travelling to Norwich for the Portsmouth game..) with him, they're our second team or third after England, not sure many can say that. I thought Mansfield looked good to be fair to them, but Newport looked and are very limited, with no plan B... The manager Flyn has done an amazing job though, they were almost relegated in 2017 ago. canarydan23 4,060 Posted May 10, 2019 I went to a Newport for a couple of days for work and have concluded that the only reason to go there is if it is unavoidable.
daly 497 Posted May 10, 2019 Remember the late 1940's and the whole of the 1950's when City and Newport met every season in Div 3 South and we struggled in quite a number of those games.

Feedthewolf 4,789 Posted May 12, 2019 Massive achievement on a very limited budget - well done indeed. Hope they go up, just so the binners can experience defeat at the hands of NCFC next season.

Mansfield have had similar issues, losing their ground nearly going bust etc Edited May 13, 2019 by city4eva
