04 May 2004 - Nielsen in betting scandal

Former Norwich City striker David Nielsen is to undergo counselling

after being at the centre of a spectacular betting scandal in Denmark. The

28-year-old Dane featured in City''s first three games of the season

last August before announcing that he wanted to move back to his native

country after his wife, Tenna, was offered an exceptional job

opportunity in the Scandinavian computer industry. The one-time

Wimbledon forward – who completed a £200,000 switch to the Canaries in

January, 2002, following a successful loan spell – was granted his

transfer wish by manager Nigel Worthington and left to resume his

Danish first division career with AaB Aalborg.Last week,

however, Nielsen''s name was splashed across the front pages of

Denmark''s national newspapers after his new club admitted at a press

conference that their star striker and Aalborg''s long-serving

goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen had accumulated debts of 1.6 million Danish

krona (£160,000) with a local betting shop.So big was the

pair''s level of credit with the Aalborg bookies, the shop was forced to

close for three weeks until the outstanding debts were cleared. http://new.pinkun.com/search/story.aspx?brand=PINKUNOnline&category=Norwich&

17 February 2005 - Danes kick out ex-Canary Nielsen

TROUBLED former Canary striker David Nielsen has been sensationally

sacked by his Danish SuperLeague outfit AaB Aalborg for assaulting a

team-mate during training.Midfielder Allan Gaarde was left with

concussion after reportedly being punched in the face by Nielsen in an

ugly bust-up on Monday. The attack appears to have left

Aalborg with little option but to effectively sack their star striker

who is currently their top scorer with eight goals from his 21 Aalborg

outings this season.Aalborg announced Nielsen''s sacking in an

official statement on their web-site with Gaarde claiming he has no

recollection of the incident at all after being knocked out by

Nielsen''s flying fist.
Rick says Iwan in his match report, but doesn''t say if it was at Carrow Road or elsewhere.
Vince it was it was actually an away game

although i think it was david nielsen (against his former club) who last scored a hat-trick at carrow road. Huckerby did half score a hat-trick only for his 3rd to be claimed as an own goal

Iwan Roberts scored his only hat trick for Norwich against Stockport. It was slightly devalued as Stockport, suffering from a sickness bug, had difficulty in raising a team. Although they had players on the subs bench they were not fit enough to play.

I suppose an earlier hat trick would have been in the Premiership when Darren Beckford hit three goals past Everton.

Neilsen only got 2.. Iwan got 2 in the 5-0 game at Sheff Wed.. he is indeed the last canary (prior to deano) to score a hat trick at Carra rud....

on the subject of goals... which Ex canary is the only player to have scored 5 in an away FA cup tie... a record that still stands today?

answer can be found in various publications...

AJ - if your thinking of the game im thinking of (I.E when he was on loan) then it was definitely two, one header and one penalty (after he ran half the length of the pitch, then took a bit of a dive in the box)

I''m pretty sure that it said in the sky sports "football league review" that this was his third of his professional career. But in this, as in so much else I could be very much mistaken.
Can anybody confirm or deny that this is Deano first ever proffessional hat-trick. I am sure I heard it somewhere that he had never scored one before?
On the footy league show yeaterday they quoted deano now has a hat trick of hat tricks so i guess its his third
