How much money would it take to motivate you?

Recommended Posts

This has been documented well the last few months

but I would like to post a question. How much money would it take to

motivate a player?

Let me explain myself. I fully understand that it is a manager''s

responsibilty to choose tactics/formation/training etc etc. However, I

do not believe it is the manager''s job to motivate his players....they

are being paid for being footballers....professional ones at that!

There is only so much a manager like Nigel Worthington can do.

A player has to perform to a professional level week in week out. I can

understand a manager picking a player up if he is feeling low....but

not motivating him!!!

I don''t know how much our players are on but it is a fair old whack for

playing football. It has been suggested that Darren Huckerby is on

about £12,000 p/w but I guess he is the top earner. I''d play my heart

and guts out for that sort of money...no matter who the manager was! I

am not singling out Darren and saying he isn''t playing to the best of

his ability as I love the guy and hope he is here for a long time yet.

It is just Nigel Worthington says his players are not playing with

heart and commitment and if it was any other job, you''d be in the dole

que before long for not pulling your weight.

So I ask you again, how much money woud it take to motivate you?

PS - I''d play my heart and guts out for £2000 p/w!!!!

Me too, but the question is would you do the same if you were playing for say Hull City?

We support the club, so cannot imagine anything other than than that type of motivation. If it''s not a team you support, you can get away with it as there''s no real competition for your job and your contract is secure, you lost time for your boss/company you work for etc then you might not.

I''m not condoning the players lack of efforts by the way, just observing that it''s like life in any company/organisation for them, but with added security of income too.

Me - I''d do it for free if it got the team I love back on track, but my aged knees wouldn''t last as long as a tired Safri hamstring!

i work Part time at Tescos unfortunately and the wage is pitiful! i go to work every day because with my girlfriend being pregnant i need the money... i want to walk out and not bother coming back, but i dont... i admit i have no motivation in my job but i go and try my hardest still in the hope something better will happen.

if i was on even £250 a week id be pulling my finger out and knuckling down every day! these overpaid prima donnas ought to swap with me for a week.. i bet u theyd learn Motivation pretty bloody quickly once they returned to their footballing lives!!!!

Allow me to put a different slant on it CB. (And I would bet Ash is on far more than Hucks)

This is only based upon my perception, not fact.

Dean Ashton is working his back side off at Crewe, he''s young and talented, but still lives with mummy and daddy and drives a mini. He gets a call from Norwich who promise him prem football for 6 months at least, and a likely rise in wages from 3k to 20k. Ash agrees and sells his mini to buy an X5 or similiar plus he buys a nice 4 bed house etc. Norwich get relegated, Ash who has impressed is not happy. Crouch goes to Liverpool and Bent to Charlton, and Carlton Cole starts getting sub games for Chelsea. World Cup looms, Ash wants to go, but has no hope, especially not being in the prem. Interest comes in from other clubs, Ash gets offered new contract. Ash can take the wage hike and hope Norwich do well, or leave to maybe be a sub somewhere. Ash takes the money to put him back on prem wages, Norwich do badly. Ash doesnt care, he''s guaranteed his money until 2009 and has everything he wants apart from a prem club and international caps. That will come in Jan.

You see CB what you also have to see is that money is the key. Once you ''make it'' to a good long contract, what inspiration is there left ? Better contract, more money ? World stage ?

Contract details?

I''m prepared to hit corners direct to the opposition for, say, £4,000 a week...I can also give the ball away in open play repeatedly and inexplicably, for no extra charge...

For an extra £1000 though, I also don''t mind mindlessly clapping the fans at the end, or telling the local hacks that the manager can turn it around, and that I am fully behind him...

Mind you, I do get tired easily and would need at least 2 weeks off between games, along with all afternoons after training to play golf or go to the bookies, or buy tasteless chunky jewellry

I also of course don''t want to compromise my social life in anyway, so will be out on the lash most nights, where I will also have to reserve the right to be surly and aloof if anyone tries to talk to me...

I am also prepared, for any sponsors interested, to wear my tracksuit out in supermarkets- although I do draw the line at socialising with either Wayne Rooney or his girlfriend

Money is motivational for a few weeks and maybe months only, beyond that money no longer maintains motovation.  we all dream of the money these guys are on (12k pw for Hux - dont think so!  All the players wages are frozen for two years at prem levels following relegation remember!)  but for them its the norm - no different to a waiter on £100 pw or a lot harder work.

Once you have enough money what is motivational after that varies from individual to individual.   No one likes working with a group that is under pressure - the atmosphere is not good and petty tensions come out - who gets mootivated easily by money in that situation?  Thats when personal drive comes to the fore, and if thats not there the manager to provide some by providing a vision of how things can improve - which is where NCFC are lacking.

For me just fulfilling a dream of being a city player is motivation enough - for a game or two until Nige realises I dont run around enough... and cant actually kick a ball!

Never thought Laslos heirachy of needs would ever be recalled after all these years!

Hucktastic

How much would you charge for deliberately going out on the pitch, playing crap and getting the inept management sacked?

How much also for saying you had ambition, therefore bumping up your price for escape in January, therefore netting yourself a nice little earner as a sign off for another club?

And, as they all say, nice facilites, nice family club, great supporters!

Nice cushy job, if you can get it.

BTW, lovely players and management who are taking us, your paying fans, for a ride.  You are all in for a big shock next home game.  We, the fans are mightly pissed off with the lot of you.  Time to let you know.
