Bill 1,788 Posted October 22, 2019 8 minutes ago, Hairy Canary said: I already stated that in my view this vote will be harder to pass than the WA. I put "in my view" because that's what it is, no more, no less. In addition Rory Stewart has indicated he will vote against the timetable but for the WA and as he is one of the "crucial" 23 ex Tories I found that to be quite significant. I don't doubt that you did, but it is only the 2nd reading, not the decisive vote

In addition Rory Stewart has indicated he will vote against the timetable but for the WA and as he is one of the "crucial" 23 ex Tories I found that to be quite significant. This is a guesstimate from the FT's George Parker, who has a reputation for cautious commonsense analysis: A wild guess at what happens next: @BorisJohnson wins second reading, MPs who feel guilty about backing the deal then block programme motion; EU grants extension of a few weeks. Johnson accepts (and doesn't pull bill). Brexit happens. No election till 2020. Lab changes leader. EU leaders (bearing in mind that they cannot be certain of how 27 heads of government will vote, however much they predict this or that on an extension) have already indicated they would be open to a short extension. If Johnson does win the second-reading vote that will have considerable symbolic power, being the first time MPs have voted for some kind of Brexit, however vague in detail, as opposed to continually voting against but then failing to vote for any alternative, which is an increasingly untenable position. Hairy Canary 628 Posted October 22, 2019 1 minute ago, Bill said: from our correspondent Bill - some startling facts about the lower house (for the not too bright) there are lots of MPs in Parliament, who will vote this evening if one group have more voting for them they win the vote - and if it is the other way round they will lose some may well vote for what is best for their upcoming electoral prospects, whereas some might not most MP's are men, if not......... they are women not all are from England, or are white either they sit on seats which a green and are known as benches* - the colour lets them know which part of Parliament they are in but the colour of MPs does not tell you what party they are in * the seats that is, not the MPs Thanks Bill. Although you have different political viewpoints I wonder if you realise how much your personality bears a striking similarity to Boris Johnson's. You know the sort of thing, disrespectful to other viewpoints, belittling, arrogant, sarcastic. Need I go on?

Surfer 1,547 Posted October 22, 2019 In case anyone is wondering how you get to a Second Reading without a vote on the First Reading : " The second reading is the first opportunity for MPs to debate the main principles of the Bill " https://www.parliament.uk/about/how/laws/passage-bill/commons/coms-commons-second-reading/

paul moy 235 Posted October 22, 2019 What a low IQ lot Liebore are, judging by their debating level. They should rename themselves to reflect the fact that they will only have seats in London after the next GE.

Would at least be a start if the Bill was passed. May well be a hollow victory though. But would be nice for us both to be proved right in our predictions from a long time ago, that a WA would be approved..........😉
