Oh do try and keep up @paul moy, Johnson signed away the the £40 billion with the WA. That money has already been banked by the EU.

Do keep up.  The WA has not yet been ratified by our Parliament so absolutely no money has been handed over yet.

Actually the consensus estimate is that about £6bn has already been paid. And Parliament will ratify Johnson's WA, with all its sensible backings-down/craven surrenderings to the EU (choose according to political preference), next month, confirming that the rest of the money is a debt the UK is duty-bound to pay. Of course only an idiot would trust Johnson to keep to that promise.

It will all be done and dusted, enshrined in an international treaty by 31/1/2020.......by the way we have started paying the installments already.

I expect Jools & RTB will be next.

It's about time we put our own country first.  Every other country in the world puts its interests first and we have been mugs for decades under yellow liberal lefty handwringers in thrall of the EU.

More ill-informed nonsense from Paul Moy.

Only money that we pay for membership has been paid which of course would at least be around that amount as we still have not left the parasitic EU.  Add to that 80% of tariffs and 0.03% of VAT and any ridiculous fines for being too successful.

We can now start to dream of the multi billions saved annually after Dec 2020 and of course the EU sinking into its own mire of bankruptcy and QE.

😀👍 And the EU will shrink into its own mire of bankruptcy...

Hardly surprising when one considers the UK’s economy is bigger than 18 EU member countries combined 😃

It is what it is Herman.

All nuance is now lost. The nationalistic populists have been let out of Pandora's box and there's no easy way to put them back in - nor control them. Johnson and what I might call the moderate Leavers have metaphorically "cut a deal with the devil" for their short term gain but now as ever the Devil requires his payment. Jump ? How high asks Johnson?

Of course they will need as ever people to blame going forward - it's what defines them. So called Remainers, the EU, the immigrants, then as we even start to see now  - the Judges, business - it's a well trodden path that many thought we'd all left behind in the 20th century. I guess it's just England's turn.

As the EU starts to negotiate a trade deal in the New Year all hell will suddenly break loose as the EU will, for the first time and not unreasonably - treat the UK as a third country - same as they would Russia or any other. It will be what's good for the EU and its people/jobs first and last (rather like Trump's America 'first') - if any car assembly plants have to close/rationalise in a third country then so be it and so on.

Of course Johnson will huff and puff - it will go to the wire and eventually collapse into a deal of the EU's liking same as the WA but he will, like all good salesman sell it as his and something 'special'. Anything but the truth.

The scales will eventually fall from the eyes of the true believers but it's the damage that will have been done that will will be the problem. The so called 1970s brain drain will restart again in earnest - inward investment and high-tech companies will prefer the larger global markets (see Musk and his new German not UK 'Gigafactory' decision) rather than idiosyncratic inward looking England. Then again I'm sure we can all be tourist guides!

I see PM is back just to prove a point 🙂. Pandora's box is now well and truly open. What horrors lie within?

Advice to the young would be to make sure you have good international skills and are happy to work hard. The world beyond England will be full of opportunities for the adventurous as it always is.

"The nationalistic populists have been let out of Pandora's box "

Like Norman Lamb you mean.....unbelievable comment!

The reality is that Norman, like many of us, is a democrat.

"I think to just take a decision to seek to block a referendum which we'd voted to hold in the first place was a big mistake. We just became more and more extreme. We doubled down on hard Remainers and we gave people across much of the country a positive reason to vote against us."

The former MP continued, "My old seat of North Norfolk and seats across much of the country have become completely un-win-able to the Lib Dems because of this approach that they've taken to totally resisting the outcome of the referendum rather than engaging in the discussion about the sort of Brexit we should have.

"I think this will go down as a historic miscalculation by Remainers - not just in the Lib Dems but Labour MPs as well," Sir Norman said

Its general comment about the 'nationalistic populists' like PM.

As to the original twitter comment it is is people trying to make more out of a comment than it was (i.e Nick Baird correcting Norman Lamb who misinterpreted the original comment).

It is however what I have now come to expect. The race to the bottom and the blame game begins.

"Von der Leyen told French paper Les Echos that both sides need to think seriously about whether there is enough time to negotiate a new trade deal.

It would be reasonable to evaluate the situation mid-year and then, if necessary, agree on extending the transition period."

Norman was a fantastic MP for North Norfolk, a truely decent bloke, the ease with which both YF and Hermy chose to malign him reveals much.

If there was any maligning going on it was by Norman Lamb, he deliberately miss represented the original comment.

The problem is that people are accepting lies being told because they want to be lied to.

Nope.... No Deal please. The EU have had three and a half years and have deliberately delayed and obfuscated and they can do a deal if they have the will but they don't as they want neverending extension sucking on the UK teat.
