The Positive Brexit Thread

Yet again you show you haven't read the article you have posted a link to. You do realise that this shows brexit to be a failure don't you? Thought not! Unless of course you actually want UK firms to take their business to the EU?

"A number of British and international firms are setting up offices in Dublin in the wake of the UK’s divorce from the EU, including Hogan Lovells and Ashurst, which both announced plans last month. Restrictions on practising EU law outside of the EU mean that firms that had previously served EU clients from London have had to set up new offices in the 27-nation bloc.

Dublin is not the only location that has attracted firms to set up EU outposts either. Also last month, Wall Street firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett unveiled plans to open in Brussels later this year to help it adjust to the impact of Brexit."

You could go away and actually educate yourself about brexit and realise that you have been fooled into spouting lies and rubbish for years.

First, it's  no surprise that you respond with a blatant lie, find me one example of a remainer saying there will be "no imports".

Second, are you claiming you haven't seen the pictures of empty shelves in NI supermarkets, or the pictures of flaming buses?

Well done, you've picked the correct thread, this is positively good news for Ireland ans the EU.

Yes the mind boggles at Swindon's stupidity to quote this link as 'support' for Brexit. You have to wonder if he is typical of most Brexiteers or a particularly bright one as he alluded too with his (ripp off) IQ test.

Is rejoining the CU the simple solution to the problems in NI?

No, majority of the issues are the result of possible deviating standards .

The simple solution is rejoining the Single Market 😉

Why couldn't they have compromised instead of all the British Bulldog rubbish?

Those most secure from hardship were the most vehement.

As has been mentioned before Brexit wasn't going to hurt the ERG and the other headbanger clowns, them and their hedge fund/investment friends would have made a pretty packet from the, end of Soviet era style, chaos. Hence the push from them for the hardest Brexit.

Covid on the other hand, being a "democratic" pandemic, is hurting them financially hence their willingness to get the economy back on track and people back to work. They're not that bothered if it is unsafe or not, they just want people to start earning them money again.

They are parasites and anybody that thinks the ERG etc. has their best interests at heart is a fool.

Just to add. They are more than willing to lower standards in food because they know they won't be eating poisonous chicken but they sure as hell will be making a nice profit selling it to us mugs.

Indeed H! It was the fact that we withdrew from the single market and refused to negotiate for a new customs union that made the NI protocol an absolutely necessary part of the brexit deal. You would have to have been an idiot of colossal proportions to think that a brexit deal could avoid an NI protocol once the SM and CU options were ruled out. Even then, the effects of the NI protocol could have been minimised if the government had included in the brexit deal a legal agreement to match the quality standards of the EU; but it refused to do so in order to make possible the lowering of food and safety standards in the UK (as we have already seen in the case of chemicals). Thus, extensive customs checks became essential in protecting the EU's market from sub-standard goods.  Johnson and his government new this but chose to lie about it in order to serve his personal political advantage; and those who colluded in this obvious lie, like the Ulster Unionists, chose to praise the emperor's new clothes rather than protect their own citizens.

So well done Brexiteers, you have not only trashed our trade and the financial prospects of thousands of SMEs, you have also managed to trash decades of hard won peace in Northern Ireland. All this to chase some unicorn notion of sovereignty that has actually resulted in the loss of sovereignty for one very significant part of the UK. If it wasn't so tragic one would die laughing at this dissembling incompetence. As it is, there is a very real danger that people will actually die because of this dissembling incompetence.

What FTA between EU and US?

This is to mix-up soverignity and power. The EU don't need a free trade deal with the US and have the power to resist what would be considered unreasonable demands. Equally, the US doesn't need a trade deal with the EU. They will negotiate as equals and walk away if terms cannot be reached.

On the otherhand Brexit Britain is weak. In any trade negotiations with the US the UK will be the suplicant, it will need to accept the terms offered (much as Johnson did in the CTA). Not only that Biden will insist the UK respcts both the Good Friday agreement and the Northern Ireland protocol. The US will  make enforcing these elements of the CTA part of any US/UK FTA.

Sovereignity is a ****.

Of those asked,  but were quickly changing their minds

Since you like polls so much try this one: https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/only-a-quarter-of-brits-believe-brexit-has-gone-well-so-far-poll/

YouGov poll has shown that 42% of the public think Brexit has been handled badly so far, while 25% believe our new relationship with Europe has been going well.

And perhaps read this article from the Mail: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/my-profit-has-been-wiped-out-by-a-250-000-cost-eu-s-new-export-rules-leave-small-british-firms-struggling/ar-BB1fwf2R?ocid=msedgntp

My profit has been wiped out by a £250,000 cost': EU's new export rules leave small British firms struggling

British exporters are 'wading through treacle', navigating labyrinthine new paperwork to deliver to the EU as they suffer mounting problems.

Small businesses told The Mail on Sunday they are facing complex rules of origin forms, new customs declaration requirements and VAT obligations from the EU.

Federation of Small Businesses chairman Mike Cherry said: 'Some have already decided to throw in the towel where exports are concerned as a result of the new demands.'

Lawson, whose brand ships to 50 countries worldwide, said: 'The paperwork is like treacle. It's impacting us and our customers who are small, independent stores without huge finance operations. Ultimately the path of least resistance for them is that they won't buy products from the UK.'

So, even the Mail can't find anything positive to say. And just let that last line in bold sink in, this deal is so bad that the "path of least resistance ...is that they [EU companies] won't buy products from the UK". This traitorous government negotiated an appalling deal that has destroyed many UK companies' possibility of trade with their main customers. Truly shocking levels of incompetence caused by a febrile xenophobic hatred of the EU. We have not only cut off our nose to spite our face, this is full-blown decapitation.

The NI protocol was part of the WA. This was all part of Johnson's Oven Ready deal which he happily waved about and got himself a massive majority on. You lot cheered for this. You lot voted for this.

I guess you haven't bothered to look up the career of the self-described "historian" concerned... Thought not!

The EU has simply followed the terms of the deal the UK government negotiated and signed. It is absurd and childish to criticise them for strictly applying the terms of that deal. If the government hadn't been so obsessed with making it possible to lower our food and safety standards beneath those of the EU none of this needed to happen. The blame lies squarely with this spiv Tory government and in particular the lying gobshi*te Johnson who deceived the Northern Irish without the slightest compunction.

Last month we argued that the slump in UK-EU trade in January reflected a variety of factors, many of which were temporary. Early evidence from German and French trade data for February suggests we were right. UK exports to both countries rebounded sharply during the month, to close to the average levels seen in the second half of 2020. A further recovery looks to have occurred in March, too, taking UK trade with France back to pre-pandemic levels.

Total bollo*cks from a talking bollo*cks brexit web site. The brexit deal is not temporary, and the full effects of regulations have yet to be felt as many are still on hold during the transition to our third country status. Now go find something from a source that isn't utterly discredited. Meanwhile Northern Ireland burns, and SMEs go down the pan.
