Can somebody explain what on earth the Covid vaccine roll out has to do with the EU ?

We, as with all our european neighbours, rolled out / authorized Pfizer and indeed Oxford under EU rules - some choose 'emergency'  and others waited for 'general market' authorization (a heavier burden of data) - pros and cons to both. That's just a fact. We all had options and choices on how/what to buy.

Each country has chosen its own path for it own populations and needs. Individual governments will have to answer for their decisions to their respective electorates.  No EU diktat and yes the UK has at least done well so far in rolling out the vaccine - it needed and continues to need too given its appalling handling of the virus itself.

It's only the true plonkers on here who can't seem to grasp this as they are so blinkered being anti-EU they've lost all sense of reality. Reminds me of Trump diehards.

Germany are now in trouble from the EU. Why? Because the member states, including Germany, agreed that they would pool their procurement processes and allow the EU to order the vaccine for a EU-wide rollout. So far, so egalitarian.

But is has emerged that unknown to other member states Germany has secretly negotiated 300 million Pfizer doses for its own citizens.

Seems like in this EU utopia, some really are more equal than others.

A quick check indicates that the EU has doubled its Pfizer (yes that German vaccine) order to 600M doses (extra 300M) and that Germany alone rather like the UK had an original (not secret) direct order for 30M. What the EU doesn't want is a price war (or worse a nationalistic one - else you'll be last on the list)

"Yesterday James Withers took to Twitter to report a worsening situation. He posted: “More messages from food exporters who are finding the door to the EU is now shut.

Haulage firms won’t take their loads; bureaucratic/IT systems failing. A multi-billion pound trade system is being tested for the 1st time, in real time. And it’s going wrong.

He added: “Brexit, week one was bad. Week two will be worse."

Who would have guessed that putting up restrictions, and adding over 200 million more forms per year would lead to problems ?

While the rest of the world has been working to remove barriers to trade, the UK has taken the North Korean approach to trade.

Backward looking isolationism,  strangled by red tape and bureaucracy

Set to get worse as the UK becomes the closed door of world trade

Freight expert John Shirley said: ‘The chaos has begun. Organising even the simplest load to Europe has become an almost impossible task due to the mountain of red tape brought in on January 1.’

So someone who works in the industry, or a brexit nutter.....................hmm, difficult one that 🤔

I just looked at the BBC website

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/politics/uk_leaves_the_eu

"Latest".

What a depressing list / tale of woe about Brexit self inflicted problems.

I did think it would be a good idea to get all the Tory Brexiteer MPs doing customs work - but then I realized they weren't smart enough for that and would only make a bad situation worse.

Seems the Lorry driver didn't heed the warnings about unlicensed meat products. Yep! what a fine thing Brexit is, and what a wonderful deal the Tories secured. Morons!

Where is Liz Truss when you need a comment.

That is a disgrace?

We import 100% of our Spanish wine.

That is a disgrace.

We import 100% of our immigrants

That is a disgrace.

Just occured to me that since the Tory party is stacked with full-boiled Gammons does this mean that  none of them will be allowed into the EU under regulations preventing the export of unfrozen meat products?

The "joyous" consequences of brexit continue to become more evident by the minute:

https://news.sky.com/story/brexit-trade-problems-just-the-tip-of-the-iceberg-e-commerce-expert-warns-12184913

Early trade difficulties are "just the tip of the iceberg" as businesses adjust to new demands after Brexit, according to a compliance expert.

Hurricane Commerce, which specialises in cross-border e-commerce, said the dawn of the UK's new relationship with the EU was throwing up a string of issues caused by a lack of complete and valid customs data and VAT now being payable on low value goods into the UK.

It highlighted retailers - on both sides of the channel - ceasing orders as a result of additional red tape and unforeseen charges.

if only someone had warned about this before Johnson waved the white flag

actually they did, repeatedly....throughout 2020

unfortunately Johnson lied blatantly to the thickos so as to get elected, knowing full well what he had promised them was as likely as time travel is

he then spent all of 2020 trying to wheedle his way out of an international agreement he had signed

so, far from the previous 11 months being a transition period it was one of trying to reduce the damage to the UK economy that he had signed up to in January, and as ever he failed

the results are now being felt right across the board, as the consequences of his lies, and the thicko's ignorance, bear down upon us all

and closer to home.... how many of Buendia, Onel, Sorensen, Quintilla, Zimmerman etc would City now be able to sign ?

Wait until the problems hit the thickos personally - as with the confiscation of hauliers sandwiches

When small exporters find out it is no longer cost-effective to export to the EU.

When holidaymakers find out the extra costs and hassle of visiting the EU

When shortage of certain items in the supermarkets become a regular occurrence

The constant irritations and delays that decades of hard work had removed which have now returned.

The dawning realisation that sovereignty works both ways. That promising UK footballers will find it just as hard to play in the EU, as City will now find it to sign the next Buendia.

The huge amount if cost and rigmarole UK festivals will have to go through to get EU performers into the country - and visa versa.

there is a memorable cartoon of a Norfolk dumpling and a Citizen canary looking down on Wembley with the words

"it should have been us, bor"

now replaced by a ragged Brexit numpty with a wealthy brexiter looking across at the EU

"that was once us, sir"

The EU are in trouble as they will not get much supply until August according to reports, as they under-ordered .  We will hopefully be completely vaccinated by then,  have herd immunity, and will be in a great position to grow our GDP while the EU will still be in recession and suffering high covid death rates.

I know figures I follow this like a hawk. The information you have given is completely incorrect and lies. For gloating about the deaths of humans from any country you are complete scum. I really don’t want to compare any country here as it is impossible, but Germany are getting a huge Moderna order possibly today. Unlike us and Sweden ( possibly America later ) they are not going to guess with the vaccine if you can delay the second jab, they are going to follow the manufacturers and W.H.O. guidelines. If our system works great, if it doesn’t there will be a lot of questions asked, who knows what will be the best system or outcome - no one especially you.
This is why you cant compare

We went as quick as it was possible and got emergency usage approval, others took their time and got conditional market use approval. You probably don’t understand what they are let alone which way will be best.

Germany ( just as a for instance not for comparison ) have taken longer to ensure they vaccinated care homes first, we waited till we got Oxford, both strategies are relevant.

Countries outside Europe are way ahead of us ( that is not a comparison or meant as a negative against us ) some countries are even supplying the rest of the world.

Because we are in a critical situation we will be delaying a second jab for the Pfizer vaccine and there is an 8 - 12 week gap before the second Oxford-AstraZeneca jab ( this is as advised by AstraZeneca nothing to do with the government ). This goes against all advise, however as it stands 99 % of other countries will be following the manufacturers and WHO recommendations and giving their citizens the second Pfizer jabs within 21 - 28 days, meaning our efficacy is believed with Pfizer ( I stress believed ) to be 52 % and theirs will be 95 %.

There are many other reasons, but this is not a race, it is about getting the world protected and until that is done it wouldn’t matter a flying f*** if a few countries have completed their programmes as the world needs to be vaccinated.

The likes of RTB are having discussions, we may not agree on everything, but they are opinions ( regards the vaccines ) whereas you are just gloating about fellow human beings dieing, I consider that bad taste and racist.

I will stress as many will be aware this is not meant in anyway as a negative to what we are doing, we are doing a fantastic job, it is meant to say comparing is just not possible as it may even be Indonesia with their plan that turns out the most effective. I have also taken exception to you gloating that people you don’t like are dying, I don’t like you or Paul Lambert, doesn’t mean I want either of you dead.

The EU has 5 times as much coastline to fish as the UK.

Conclusion:

Although Billy liar kept informing me that fish can swim where they like, it seems they like British waters (Smart fish)

A desperate speech by Barnier who realises the EU's strategy has failed. As soon as the UK voted to leave it was obvious that the EU automatically lost access to our fishing grounds and they knew that. The EU attempts to insist that the UK outside the EU accepts the same status Quo on fishing, was a none starter.

oh dear, that didn't go to well did it mouse brain ?

the EU continues to have access to UK waters while UK fishermen cannot sell what they catch because of the deal your mate Johnson signed up to

Obviously to most of us, but probably not you or your rude and 'blind' ilk, nobody will know who performed best until this is over.  At this moment we are ninth in the world in deaths per million, below EU countries Belgium and Italy.  As we gain herd immunity, which ironically we may be closer to due to many silly and selfish people ignoring rules, then we will thankfully fall down the table.

You mean that selfish silly man Jacob Rees Mogg that broke the rules at Christmas and is still in a job ? Or that one from last year, what was his name oh yes Cummins ?

Just like your post on a different thread where you were recommending a drug for those suffering from coronavirus, that not only does not work on coronavirus, but would kill certain groups you are talking a complete and utter load of tosh.

Instead of moaning at other countries why don’t you get off your fat a*** and do what I did and volunteer for the vaccination service, that way you can help fellow human beings rather than gloating about people that may die from other countries.

For the real value you need to view the potential when the EU can no longer take our fish and we do not need to import our own fish and we process and export massively in the future. Japan and China in particular are now huge markets for fish that we have not been allowed to exploit due to the EU theft.
