So Boris is about to cave. Because he knows he's totally screwed with Trump trailing in the polls so badly, there will be no US trade agreement to bail him out of the hole he has dug.

I THINK YOU READ  IT WRONG still I forgive you coz you get a lot more wrong !

Flip Flop Fold, sums him up. Just like he’s just flip flopped over Manchester lock down, he will flip, flop, fold here too. Every time he faces opposition he can’t simply ignore because it’s coming from within his own party, he will eventually fold.

Just like his American mentor. But only after a lot of incoherent hot air, waffle about staying the course, the vital importance of protecting our national sovereignty, maybe some fire up the base words about being stabbed in the back by (insert name), and of course It is all someone else’s fault or nobody could have negotiated a better deal, but fold he will. You can bet on that.

Analysis box by Katya Adler, Europe editor

EU leaders are not yet all on the same page when it comes to how much they should give up or give in to get a deal.

Brussels keeps calling on the UK to make concessions but a successful outcome will require compromises on both sides.

Will France's Emmanuel Macron relinquish his hard-line position about keeping current fishing quotas in UK waters? He'll have to, to get a UK deal.

Will Germany's Angela Merkel give way on some demands on competition regulations (aka the level playing field) yet still grant the UK zero tariff, zero quota access to the single market?

EU leaders must agree all this amongst themselves and it won't be straightforward.

More news from Kent, The toilet of England

These won't spread COVID-19, at all, no sir

If it really does end up taking 2 days to get through Kent, does anyone know if other ports have the capacity to take on more? I'm thinking places like Hull, Immingham, Felixstowe, London Gateway, Southampton. These all have reasonable links to the Midlands and/or the North

That was yesterday, still waiting for Johnson to walk but all the signs are he has folded again

Well, smallfry, David Frost's post to Twitter an hour ago suggests that tomorrow, Boris will go with his 7 September statement:

image.png.222d2c122679f6b2eda0e45942eb2743.png

Here is the 7 September statement:   https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/prime-ministers-words-on-eu-negotiations-7-september-2020

  • there needs to be an agreement by the time of the EU Council meeting - a day later is de minimis
  • no sense in thinking about timelines beyond that point.
  • if no free trade agreement move on.
  • we will have full control over our laws, our rules, and our fishing waters - a constant feature since 2016
  • we will have the freedom to do trade deals with every country in the world - any EU designed state aid provision is intended to scupper that freedom
  • we will be ready to find sensible accommodations on practical issues such as flights, lorry transport, or scientific cooperation, if the EU wants to do that - reciprocal arrangements and obligations should have been at the starting point for any agreement not an alternative in lieu of one .
  • we cannot and will not compromise on the fundamentals of what it means to be an independent country

No evidence of any backtracking there, smallfry.

We've been here many times before...

But tomorrow looks like the day. If Boris doesn't walk away, we are surely in line for  a fudged up deal, possibly with many aspects (i.e. fishing), being rolled over for a few years with the current arrangements, until something else can be sorted out

What's it gonna be

1/ a crappy no deal?

2/ a crappy half baked deal that will still take even more time to finalise?

Happy days 😟

I suspect there is some 'panic' in No. 10. It wasn't meant to go like this.

It's a lose lose I'm afraid - Bluff called.

Of course he can jump off the (economic) cliff ......

Really, panic inside No. 10! How do you know this, do you have inside knowledge? Are you sure 'No Deal' hasn't been the plan for quite some time and that is exactly what Boris & co have been wanting all along?

Whatever the outcome, deal or no deal, I'm pretty certain you know no better than I or anybody else here what that outcome will be, so please spare us the BS Remainiac presumptions that always fail you.

  • we will have the freedom to do trade deals with every country in the world - any EU designed state aid provision is intended to scupper that freedom

Translation - well of course the UK does, however let's look at who we'd want to do a trade deal with : # 1global market - EU oh, never mind. # 2 global market - US oh, Trump is obviously losing. #3 global market - China - oh, well I guess we'll have to sell out Hong Kong then.... next Japan, well Liz did already increase the blue cheese quota.

  • we will be ready to find sensible accommodations on practical issues such as flights, lorry transport, or scientific cooperation, if the EU wants to do that - reciprocal arrangements and obligations should have been at the starting point for any agreement not an alternative in lieu of one .

What if the EU says, these are our rules. What then? And geniuses, we DID and until Dec 31 still DO have reciprocal arrangements on all these matters - that is what Brexit is blowing up.

  • we cannot and will not compromise on the fundamentals of what it means to be an independent country

The UK Government is about to find out the rest of the world doesn't give a damn what we think about our independent country status. History shows that whoever has the the biggest guns usually wins.

Someone needs to show him a map and point out that Australia is over 9400 miles from the UK, and France is 20 miles from the UK.

Surely Australia is only shipping high margin or speciality goods over that distance. With our economy of 80% services and 44% of our goods and services going to the EU, and no WTO terms or arrangements on services, I fail to see how our lunatic leader can think that Australia is in a similar situation to us.
