The Positive Brexit Thread

Recommended Posts

Another bad day for the righties, as

Johnson is exposed as a serial liar (and liability) over child poverty and the track and trace  system

Both Jenrick and Hancock involved in more Tory sleaze, this time over cash for favours

The odious Rees-Mogg loses a Parliamentary vote on undermining bullying in Parliament

Most noticeable is the latter - 45 Tories voted against  Rees-Mogg

This looks like a government at the end of their tenure... falling apart over incompetence and sleaze, rather than one a few months into it's session

the betting now is how long will the Tories give fat boy, so as to dump him along with the blame for all the failures

he's only got to stay there till the end of the month and there's no Extension to EU Trade talks. looks like your prediction will be wrong.

If Boris leaves there WILL be an extension. But it will also secure his place as a “martyr to the cause” if he steps down and then is “stabbed in the back” - I’m sure he can live on that grievance for many a year to come.

you are in luck mouse brain - I have read your latest drivel

the bluff about no extension is that of the UK not remaining in the EU after the extension, not the talks you dimwit

they can continue after July - and will need to, as the UK does not have the staff and infrastructure to cope with trade after Jan 1st as a 'third country'

however your ignorance of this should not come as any surprise, as it has been your hallmark since 2016

ps nice to see getting control of our borders would mean an EU controlled border inside the UK 🤣

The thought is that they let fat boy stay on so as to  be able to heave hum out in 2021, with all the failures lumped onto him - clean break, new start etc

that was not a prediction - it was a question

do try to understand the English language, construction of sentences etc..........

or basically anything that a 5 year old would be expected to grasp 😜

Some on here have genuinely held Daniel Hannan up as credible. Nostradamus himself had this to say about Covid so probably a good idea not to listen to him on his predictions for the post-Brexit economy

4 has been the target for Johnson from the start and he remains right on target for it, so that seems by far the most likely outcome.

But given the number of screaming u-turns performed recently by Johnson (considerably more in the last few weeks than Margaret Thatcher in her entire 11 years, or whatever it was, as PM) I suppose anything is possible though 1 looks almost impossible - not sure even Johnson could manage such a tight u-turn as that.

I'm not sure Boris wants no deal. I'm not sure he cares much at all how it turns out. He isn't a committed brexiteer like Farage, for example. Remember how long Boris dithered before committing to  leave?

All  Boris is interested in is himself, he chose leave simply because he thought it would advance his career

Note this is a question, NOT a prediction

Do you still stand by your claim (above) ?

That if Johnson is still PM by the end of this month, the talks finish ?

Bet he's kicking himself.  If he has issued the decision a week before no one would have noticed.

I think he's probably gutted for leaving such a big trail of evidence. Well done to the local Tory councillor that smelled something funny from the start.

Quite possibly.   The daft thing is that from what I can tell if he said nothing and got on with an approval in the early new year there could have been no comeback by anyone.  People would moan and grumble but nothing would have come of it.

It looks so bad for Jenrick - and by extension this government.

If it wasn't plain vanilla corruption - then Jenrick must be totally incompetent in not realising how this would look and excuse himself at the time from any decision.

However - as with everything Johnson related and his voters - all just par for the course.

The 'Johnson' party really is in the gutter and needs flushing away.

I suppose it is hard to flush away any of them whilst Cummings is sitting on the throne still.

Thanks for posting that Sonyc. It's getting some traction but will it be enough.

Listening to the ex tory councillor earlier and he was suggesting that Desmond saved himself about 80 million. He cut the number of affordable housing he needed to build as well.

I'm going to get a bit nerdy here as facts count

I dont know if the £80million is true or  not.  Pretty easy sum to do if you know the floor space and the two rates though. Whatbis not true though is that he 'saved' that sum of money as the decision was quashed.  'Would have saved' is the better description

The second bit is incorrect.  The local authority have a target that says 30-35% of new housing should be affordable and anything at or over 35% is automatically accepted.  However, you can offer less if the economics at 35% wouldn't work.   The inspector who gave the recommendation to the SoS accepted 21% was an appropriate amount and in any event offers more housing of all types than a previously approved scheme.

This doesnt mean that the SoS acted without bias but yo suggest that the decisio  allowed him to dodge affordable housing is wrong

Brexit killed the viability of the Honda factory

The 9 million jobs arn't saved, people are being paid to sit at home while the scheme is running. When Sunak runs the scheme down many will lose those "jobs".

Regarding the virus and consequent lockdown, what do you think Labour would've done differently?

Well, for a start 3/4 is just a figure that you made up. 600,000 jobs have already gone and 9 million are on the job protection scheme. The cost for this means that government debt is higher than GDP. The economy meanwhile has shrunk by 25%. Many of those on the JPS could experience deferred redundancy in the Autumn ahead of the economic self harm of the end of the transition period. 65,000 people have lost their lives, Honda are closing and the best success you can come up with is the biggest borrowing splurge since WW2.

9 million furloughed by the government, but you forgot civil servants, Armed  forces, Government employees which includes teachers firemen  Police NHS Staff and many others. You are about right as you were about Honda !

UK continues to subsidise French farmers, four years after Brexit vote

LATEST: France received 2.5 times as much in EU farm subsidies as the UK last year

merkel_macron_300619.jpg

Brexit Facts4EU analyses the latest numbers just issued by the EU Commission

The French still go ‘CAP in hand’ to the EU for subsidies after 62 years of EEC/EU membership.

Here, Brexit Facts4EU.Org looks at one aspect of the amazing story of how the second-richest EU economy has played the EU benefits system for decades and got away with it, taking billions per year in subsidies for its inefficient farming sector.

The UK’s economy is slightly larger than that of France, but its population is smaller. One significant area of difference is that France still retains a sizeable rural economy, subsidised by the French State and particularly by those few EU countries such as the UK who are net contributors. (The UK is of course still paying in.)

For decades France has fiercely protected one of the first features of what was originally the EEC or ‘Common Market’ – that of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). It has done so because it is by far the biggest beneficiary of what are effectively subsidies for running an inefficient agricultural sector.

Look at how much French farmers receive:

cap_2020.jpg

  • Over the past 10 years the EU has been spending 40% of its budget on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)
  • In 2019 alone, the EU says it spent €54.5 billion on the CAP
  • France received €9.4 billion of this
  • That is an enormous sum of money – and this was only in the last year

Incredibly, rich France received almost one-sixth of the EU's entire Common Agricultural Policy subsidies in 2019, with a grand total of €9,439,521,000 (9.4 billion) Euros.

This made it the recipient of by far the biggest EU subsidy.

With the UK receiving just €3.9 billion Euros, this means:

France has been receiving over 2.5 times more rural and agricultural payments from the EU than the UK

Observations

Brexit Facts4EU.Org deals in the reality of the EU – including the way the EU gets money from the few net contributor member states such as the UK, and the way it spends that money. We look at the way decisions are made and at the nature of those decisions.

In short, we see the EU for what it really is.

By contrast, for years we have seen, heard and read Remainer-Rejoiner politicians and commentators in the UK on a daily basis, talking about what they think the EU is and does. They present a happy valley where ‘all is for the best in the best of all possible worlds’, as the French philosopher Voltaire had it. Alas, they are all sadly deluded.

“Voters didn’t know what they were voting for” – Remainer MPs certainly didn’t and don’t

Unfortunately, the ignorance of Remainer-Rejoiner MPs and campaigners doesn’t stop them lecturing the British people as if they actually knew what they were talking about. Day after day we produce solid evidence such as that above, showing that the EU is profoundly dysfunctional, undemocratic, warped in its thinking, and unrepresentative of the peoples of the individual member countries.

All of the data we researched to produce this article came from the EU itself. It’s up-to-date – or as up-to-date as the EU ever is. Remainer-Rejoiner MPs and campaigners can’t simply dismiss information like this. They have to face it, and then tell the British people why they still think that the voters got it wrong four years ago this week.

Poor France?

What justification can you think of, for why France should receive by far the largest agricultural and rural subsidies in the EU? Come to that, what justification can you think of for any agricultural subsidies to be collected and distributed by the EU at all?

If countries like France want to subsidise their agriculture and their rural economies, (something which the British government will do post-Brexit), let them do it themselves 👍

oh dear, poor mouse brain

it won't be marked - that is the whole point of the deal - and what the US can demand.

even if it was marked, how on earth do you mark it when it is pies. curries, KFC, sausages   - what about schools, hospitals and care homes ?

label it, only fit for brexiters ?

ensure there is a skull and cross bone on every thing ?

s once, it has been cut up it becomes 'British'
