I fully back British farming ---

We will not embrace the cheapest food from around the world at the expense of our own world-leading standards -- Chlorinated chicken and hormone-reared beef may well find their way into fast food outlets in order to keep prices down for the less well off, but the likes of Waitrose and M & S will obviously maintain the highest standards.

Like I said previously, the choice will remain as it has always done 👍

How gratifying it must be to the dimwitted righties to know that their golden (strawberry blonde) boy is nor part of this corruption, but is only interested in furthering the aims of bigotry in the UK, or

"And asked whether the PM's aide Sir Eddie Lister had been in touch with the billionaire developer, he simply repeated the same line. Lister was Mr Johnson's planning chief when he approved a smaller scheme on the same site as London mayor. Mr Johnson is reported to have met Mr Desmond three times before the approval of the 700-home plan."

There is no evidence of 'naughtiness' over Russian funding of Johnson either. It's just that the report has gone missing.... temporarily

Just as we wait for the report in Johnson's alleged slipping the previous blonde floozy (pole dancer) money

Of all this is mere coincidence ......isn't it ?

I'm no fan of Trump, Farage, Brexit or the Conservatives but is this really the right way of going about this? Labelling a rally you don't agree with for "White Supremacists" then praising the Zoomers for doing so.

Its not a label SC. It's the truth. You only have to look at what the Trump ecosystem pumps out every day in press releases, on Fox News on Facebook. I'm not commenting on his supporters - some will be racist and some won't, that is true of every section of society - I'm commenting on his communications team.

It won't be kids in Korea voting in 2020, but instead those you attempt to brand as racist for having views far different from our own will surely only up their guard, reject dialogue and further entrench themselves in their position.

The election will not be about those who support Trump, but those that do not. And every time he reenforces his anti-immigrant, anti-minority, anti-science, anti-trade, anti-environment, anti LBTQ outlook, he loses more of the non-Trump core to "Mr Reasonable" Biden. So the entire election will be about Republican efforts to vote suppress and Democrat efforts to maximize the turnout despite that suppression.

This is politics, not a playground, you can't just play up to the internet of crowds at a protest and forget the millions left at home.

No you are right - over 40% of the millions left at home didn't vote last time.

I thought the same over the whole Dominic Cummings thing and his trip to Durham, it should have been ridiculed but not allowed to become a distraction from the fact that we were about to become the country with the highest death toll in Europe, instead all the headlines were about further calls to remove DC - wouldn't surprise me if this was intended and the opposition completely fell for it.

Maybe, but as other have said that episode may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. And as pointed out illustrated the callowness and corruption of an exclusive focus on symbols based politics, v's governing the country.

I don't like the Republicans or the Tories but can't deny they massively outperform the left when it comes down to manipulation and strategy

A very sad indictment of the Republicans and Tories though, when manipulation IS their strategy....

Blimey, it could almost be Teemu van Bandstand ...if we didn't read the recent new login name. Any old idiotic sh yte to deflect from his betters. I am surprised the outrage wasn't blamed on tribalism

Still, lets get Guardian/Mirror journalists to spend some time investigating this, then spend three weeks trying to get number 10 to answer questions, while finding some chap to claim he saw Cummings in Barnard Castle. Meanwhile have Cummings wife write a ridiculous piece in the Spectator - before having Cummings offer up some ludicrous guff as an explanation. Followed by Johnson backing that twaddle.

Yep, sounds a good plan to me. One in which the Tories, Johnson and Cummings come out of it well - and no questions are ever raised again about government failing over the virus 🤣

ps I would go back to who ever you were before, this attempt has failed at the first hurdle

"As we have seen in recent weeks, the Conservative government continues to protect its Establishment associates and to further elite interests at the expense of democracy. Boris. Johnson’s leadership has laid bare the intersection between the media, politics and corporate agendas,

In a week where we see the shops opening and the “Buy for Britain campaign”, it seems like high time for a challenge to those who value economic health above the health of their citizens.

This is the definition of praxis. Government by the rich for the rich."

Evidence of sleaze and corruption is mounting, and this certainly won't stop with Jenrick MP.

When you have both the Times and Mail reporting on serious wrongdoing in the Tory party then you know you are onto something.

The question is whether Johnson will try (have to) bluff this out, as with Cummings - as the accusations here go far beyond Commings flouting of the rules.

This is blatant corruption by a serving government minister - and Johnson is tied up in it.

This week should be 'fun'.

And the Tory party follow.... read the comments. This is where having a dog whistle racist as PM takes you. But let's ignore this and have a witch hunt about anti-semitism in the Labour party. Wonder if all those RWNJs who couldn't stop shouting off about Labour being anti-semitic will be as quick to condemn their own racists.

This is not really about chlorinated chicken per se. To explain, Theresa Villiers, as Herman said, is a rock-solid Brexiter. One of the true believers. Daniel ‘Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the single market’ Hannan called her ‘the unsung hero of Brexit’.

And being a true believer is an absolute requirement for any kind of position in the Johnson government. So Villiers was rewarded with the promise of a place on the powerful Commons Intelligence Committee. Until she defied a three-line whip and voted against lowering food standards to allow a US trade deal with the likes of chlorinated chicken.
And was promptly dumped from the Intelligence Committee.

So schadenfreude at poor Theresa being revealed as a useful idiot (one naïve enough I imagine to think that the downsides of Brexit could be limited) to be thrown aside or betrayed once their usefulness is over, but the episode, trivial in itself, says a great deal about Brexit and the real Brexiters, ie those implementing it.

For starters, loyalty even to true believers is entirely disposable, and depends on the prime directive, which is to make Brexit happen, and happen without delay, and no matter what the cost to the country. Because the real Brexiters are not just fanatics but fanatics who govern by symbols.

And one great symbol of Brexit is a trade deal with Washington, even if it will be horrendously one-sided in favour of US industry and farming. Villiers presumably didn’t understand that inconvenient truths and details don’t matter to the real Brexiters. Only the superficial appearance of getting the job done.

Another great symbol is not prolonging the transition period, even though anyone with only half a brain knows, especially with the pandemic, that it is the sensible thing to do. Which is why I have put money on there not being an extension.

But this government by symbols hasn’t just applied to Brexit. The ‘handling’ of the pandemic is another example. And it will continue as long as Boris ‘Garden Bridge’ Johnson is prime minister.

This is not a government in the old meaning, ie one that boringly implements detailed policies to make positive changes (whether those positive changes are beneficial or not is a question) but an insurgency whose default position is to attack the status quo for the sake of attacking the status quo, without much – if any - thought to whether the new order will be better. There was an art movement called Constructivism. Cummings et al are Destructivists.

Villiers is now saying she doesn't think she has been sacked but that is based on a promise from Johnson, so she would be right to be not sure quite what the position is! And no decision has been announced on who the members will be, so no clarity there. It is possible Villiers was planned to be the chair but wil now just be a member. But at least Villiers has confirmed that the whips told her, despite her rock-solid support for Brexit, that if she voted against details of trade legislation, as she did, then she would be punished, so the general points made above remain true.

Purple, I did not say so at the time you first posted it, but as you have now reposted it your “politics by symbols” analysis is excellent.

Johnson, the 'arry Redknapp of politics

''Boris Johnson met three times with a billionaire property developer months before he approved one of his major controversial housing schemes in London, despite objections to the development from the local authority..

Desmond’s company then submitted a second application to nearly double the number of homes in the development to 1,524, a scheme which was approved by Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick earlier this year in controversial circumstances.

Jenrick was forced to reverse the decision when it emerged he had approved the scheme just one day before the local council was due to vote on a community charge that would have cost Desmond up to £50 million.

Desmond donated £12,000 to the Conservatives on January 28, shortly after Jenrick approved the scheme." '

However, ''after the council challenged his decision, Jenrick accepted it had been unlawful."

"Labour will use the opportunity of a three-hour opposition day debate on Wednesday to discuss the controversy

Jail the fat crook.

This time fat boy has been told not to extend Sunday opening hours - by Tory voters

I can only wonder what their reaction will be when the lardy crook tries to palm off dirty chicken and hormone riddled beef on to them

Because that deal requires that the sh it is not labelled as being from the US

Remainiacs finally get out of London

A new Companies House update shows the headquarters of Open Britain Limited – the former Stronger In campaign, who have just rebranded to “Democracy Unleashed” 😃are soon to move from Milbank Tower in Westminster, to Stamford in Lincolnshire. Guido imagines most staff will be deeply annoyed by the move; not only will their nearest Pret now be 15 miles away, the switch will be a stark awakening as the company moves well out of its comfort zone: from heartland Remain-territory in Westminster (69%) to heavily-Leave South Kesteven (60%). Guido wonders whether the cost of London office space also influenced the change of scenery – Open Britain’s accounts have been overdue for a month…

Gosh, what a surprise (said no one)

"The office of the children’s commissioner for England has ruled that Boris Johnson made misleading claims about supposedly falling child poverty levels at prime minister’s questions, siding instead with Keir Starmer.

Researchers for Anne Longfield concluded that Johnson was wrong to claim that there are 400,000 fewer families living in poverty now than there were in 2010 and that it was “generally false” for him to say overall poverty levels were falling.

In contrast, the factcheck report by her office found that Starmer, the Labour leader, was correct to say 600,000 more children now live in relative poverty compared with 2012, and the total number of children in poverty is forecast to rise steeply."
