The Positive Brexit Thread

Recommended Posts

Boris Johnson has set out his vision for a decade of Conservative rule in what he has called “the most radical Queen’s Speech in a generation”.

The Prime Minister said there was “no time to waste” in moving the country forwards after Brexit to “repay the trust” of voters who gave him his majority.

He promised to “release the country from the stranglehold of indecision” to restore confidence to people and businesses, with the NHS at the heart of the domestic agenda.

And he invites voters to “imagine what this country could be in 10 years’ time”, suggesting he is already planning for another general election win.

In his introduction to the 152-page document, which contains 40 proposed Bills, the Prime Minister says that “if there is one message that came through loud and clear over the past weeks, it is that the overwhelming priority of the British people is our NHS”.

For the first time ever, the NHS’s multi-year budget will be enshrined in law to ensure a £33.9 billion annual increase in spending by 2023/24, together with 40 new hospitals, 50,000 more nurses, 6,000 more doctors, 6,000 more primary care practitioners, free hospital car parking for the most vulnerable and a fast-track visa system to bring in the best staff from around the world.

Here's a fun fact, between 2005 & 2010 the Labour government spent more that Johnson is proposing to spend.

The rest of it is just the same lies they told during the election campaign.

From a Lexiteer:

I did vote Conservative once before — for Mrs Thatcher. It was back in 1983, and it was the first time I had the opportunity to enter into that sacred little booth and make my mark. Some weeks earlier, a few of us at the Student’s Union had cooked up a cunning plan.

We weren’t going to be suckered into the tiresome gradualism of the Labour party. Things needed to change faster than that. There needed to be a revolution. And the way to bring this about was to make things worse before they could get better. Capitalism, if allowed free reign, would collapse under the weight of its own contradictions. We were living in the end times, and with just one more little shove the whole evil edifice would fall in on itself and a new socialist utopia would dawn. Oh, how clever we thought we were.

But this time was different. This time, I meant it. I wasn’t sure that I would be able to do it, though. Even on the way to the polling station, I was uncertain. The days of my flirtation with the SWP were long past, but there was something particularly sticky about the moral pull of socialism. And, I suspect, there always will be. The “hope” that Labour activists kept on talking about. Yes, I want wealth redistributed. Yes, I am perfectly happy to pay more tax. And yes, Labour’s manifesto – if a little overblown – was the sort of thing I had in mind, particularly when it came to economics. But in the end, my cross went in the Conservative box....

Boris is just starting and there was loads in the speech, I particularly like the 'no one will have to sell their home to pay for their care'

Everyone will be paying an extra 2% Council Tax a year to fund Social Care. Central Government has switched the funding to Local Government, this allows Central Government the ability to make lots of promises without having to fund them.

The Government will recruit 20,000 more police officers, keep terrorists and dangerous criminals locked up for longer, with a Royal Commission on the criminal justice process being set up to recommend further changes.

School spending will increase by £14 billion over the next three years, there will be “the biggest infrastructure revolution in living memory” and tax will be cut by raising the National Insurance threshold.

There are also pledges on defence spending, the environment, constitutional reform and strengthening the Union.

Setting out his vision for a decade of Tory government, Mr Johnson says: “Just imagine what this country could be in 10 years’ time. A country with 40 new state of the art hospitals. More fantastic nurses and fantastic doctors.

"More police officers making our streets safer. Children given a chance to reach their full potential. Cleaner air. Biodiversity protected. Scientists making incredible breakthroughs in technology. Better transport. Better infrastructure bringing people together. Greater connectivity. Greater opportunity. A Britain where we are united and levelling up.

“That is the future we are going to deliver. That is the future I am going to be working round the clock to achieve. I am humbled by the trust millions of voters placed in this Government last week. The work to repay that trust starts here.”

You really are a funny lad.

You post a slur about a fellow poster. You (quite rightly) get in return a similar response.

You then play the victim saying it brings on an anxiety attack.

If you get upset by posts, try not posting stuff like the above. Then you won't get hurt. Just a suggestion.

🤣

More of the same lies he told during the election.

He got a bit carried away when he bought a packet of these.

A well-known variety that reliably produces plenty of smooth, medium-size fruit throughout the summer. Tomato 'Moneymaker' gained popularity in the 60's and 70's for its uniformity and exceptional flavour, and remains a much-loved garden variety today.

Can see why magic grandpa likes it

Yep, I've grown them in the past, very nice red colour, do quite well in a greenhouse but if you try to grow them outside in the real world the crop is disappointing and often fails.😉
