Yes, it was pretty amazing wasn't it. We had all this great stuff in the 80s because Thatcher turned the economy around, defeated the wrecking trade unions, brought in a modern economy, and created an environment where boomers could work hard and keep more of the money that they earned.

Quite a different story from the 70s where inflation was out of control as were the trade unions, borrowing to the max, unemployment at an all-time high and taxes beyond belief. What was it 95% on unearned income.

It was collective misery for everyone, as I recall. What's really scary is that Corbyn and Mcdonall want to re-create the same economic conditions as we had in the 70s.

Keep spinning the myth, Thatcher wasted the North Sea Oil bonanza, sold off state assets, ushered in globalisation, shut down much of UK industry and created the monster of "The City" in order to buy your votes. That wasn't money you Boomers earned, it was windfalls and what previous generations had built. That is why millenials can't afford housing, your selfishness. That is why the UK has a low wage, low productivity, low skills economy. You may well have worked hard, but you also wasted the country you inherited.

I know we will never persuade you otherwise RTB.  But this insistence on blaming someone or everyone other than the greedy monkeys who flourished under Thatcherism and who now control most things we do.

For someone who merits hard workers, and so you should, I find it strange you laud those who make or destroy those wishing to work hard.

From what I have seen of snowflakes is that they are timid, live in an echo chamber, self-regarding , inexperienced and intolerant of anything that they don't understand - which is most things.

Well at least we agree on a definition of "snowflake" - now the question is who are they?

In my experience it's the very people throwing that term around that fit the description.

Which should not be a surprise to anyone.

All well and good.

But the problem is this should have been published in November 2017 or 2018, not now.

I love that @Rock The Boat throws the term snowflake around more than anyone. He's the biggest snowflake of them all; the minute anyone hurts his feelings he is running off the Pete like a real big man, "Pete, Pete, Canarydan is being nasty to me again. Pwease, pwease ban him *sniff* *sob*".

Pathetic.

Another Toty money making scam

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/12/spac-nation-church-asks-young-members-to-hand-over-thousands

what was it Galbraith said about Tories and their like

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy, that is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. It is an exercise which always involves a certain number of internal contradictions and even a few absurdities. The conspicuously wealthy turn up urging the character-building value of privation for the poor.” was published in “Stop the Madness,” an interview with Rupert Cornwell, Toronto Globe and Mail (6 Jul 2002)

While you can perhaps understand those  'at the top' who spout such stuff it is had to fathom the Alf Garnett like mentality of those 'at the bottom' who similarly spout such absurdities as if their lot in life is somehow better than those who they share their meagre lot with.

Another right wing fantasist

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-party-army-uniform-wreath-remembrance-sunday-darren-selkus-a9200326.html

you might note the Van Wink line of defence, whereby you add (or subtract) something to the story and then argue about that instead - and odd how he has seemingly now become a pro socialist appearing to have dropped* all his previous bigotry and hate towards anything to the left of Ghengis Khan

* he still puts it out, only as RTB now

This is the way to go. Well done Tim. Now for some more to do the right thing.

I think there is already quite a number of these agreements already in place

however the Libdems know they can, and will, make huge inroads into Tory voting so cannot be seen to have any association with Corbyn....hence the 'boo hiss, he's the devil' stance being taken

likewise Corbyn knows that if the Libdems are seen as 'acceptable' then it's ok for pro Remain Lab voters to switch to the Libdems

so as stated I think we will see differing tactics used in different areas, which rather negates using UK wide polls as any accurate projection of how the election will add up

ps hand crank, RTB and Jools have all disappeared at the same time - perhaps they have left Disco Dale on duty as before 😏

An update

"A Survation opinion poll gives the Conservatives a 6-point lead today, the lowest since early October – so does this mean the election race is becoming closer?

Survation puts the Tories on 35 per cent and Labour on 29 per cent, a result that could give Boris Johnson a majority of just 18 seats, according to the model used by the Electoral Calculus website. "

And with the tactical voting already suggested then i would certaintly lead to no party having a majority, Survation are fairly accurate as their model is to focus on 'certainty of voting' rather than just 'who will you vote for'. But it is still only a snap shot of a few thousand a month before the vote.

However the trend does seem to be of the Tory lead slowly decreasing, though I uspect we are yet to see the effect of Farage bottling it - which if as the right have been claiming was made up a huge amount of former Labour voters it should see an increase for both.

But with a month to go there's 'many a slip between cup and lip'

An update

"Boris Johnson has opened up a 14-point poll lead after Nigel Farage’s decision to pull Brexit Party candidates out of Tory-held seats.

A YouGov survey for The Times puts the Conservatives on 42 per cent, Labour on 28 per cent and the Liberal Democrats on 15 per cent.

Up to now the Conservatives had not been on more than 40 per cent in YouGov’s standard national polling since February, when the Brexit Party was officially launched by Mr Farage."

PS have you worked how an exit poll works yet Billy:classic_rolleyes:

I see we baby boomers are getting a good kicking. I thought we had been punished enough, having to grow up with rationing still in place, with dingy terraced houses with outside loos, and with Educating Archie and Life With The Lyons being regarded as cutting-edge comedy, but plainly not...🤧

nice to see you are lurking hand crank

Yougov is none too accurate, hence my posting the Survation poll

In fact the day before the poll Survation had the Tory lead at 1% (spot on) whereas Yugov gave it at 7%

But then if you want you can find 'evidence' that the earth is flat, we can speak to the dea and Elvis is alive and working at the local chipshop - all of which might explain your constant errors when bleating about brexit 😆

How about the FT poll of polls today Billy

"Boris Johnson’s Conservative party went into the general election campaign with an 11-point lead over Labour, according to the FT’s poll of polls. The gap has since widened slightly."

But you do like a bit of selective polling dont you Bill, you wouldnt be trying to mislead now would you 😊

Poor sad Billy!

That poll predates the Farage announcement, cod-lips.

Nobody really knows anything until Curtice tells us how we've all voted at 10pm on Dec 12 - and maybe not even then.

I'm quietly confident mind 🙃

selective polling ?

whereas your own rogue poll is not selective 😂

and Survation has proven to be far more accurate  than all the others, however even then there were plenty enough conditional comments included in my post

but given how you have been wrong every time I will accept that you have a point that you must be right at some point

ps are you still pro socialist or was that yesterday otherwise I shall bid you adios as there s little to be gained from engaging with an habitual liar/fantasist

Yes I can remember those nationalised industries. Ten weeks to get a phone installed and any colour you like as long as it was black.

To think some people are going to vote for Corbyn to take us back to the bad old days of the 1970s and trade union power
