Getting ahead of ourselves

Recommended Posts

Dont think we are even mathematically gauranteed a play off place yet are? never mind the promotion bit. But anyway, im now as confident of City  winning promotion as Ipswich getting relegated, its just been this way for months now.

Yes nothing mathematically settled yet, other than Ipswich and Bolton and Rotherham can’t make the playoffs.

Everyone from Sheff Wed up can still grab an automatic promotion spot, and everyone from Derby up can still win the Championship.

As an insurance bet you can get 20-1 on Norwich finishing in the playoffs with Skybet.

Worth a go. Would take the sting out of messing this up which, as already mentioned, would take a long time to get over! The worry of now not going up and having to listen to all the Leeds and Sheff Utd (and 1p5wich) lot endlessly mocking us would be excruciating.

This is how rival supporters would put it.

we have lost 6 games all season 3 of those at the beginning of the season and even those defeats 4 of those 6 were just bad luck and we would have drawn at the very least on another day ( WBA, Stoke, Sheffield Utd and Derby ). We have a fully fit squad. We could lose 3 out of 7 and still be almost garunteed promotion. If anyone suddenly played below par there is somebody of their equal to come in. There are no individuals that could put a spanner in the works. We can change our tactics at the drop of a hat. We are by far the best TEAM in the league so why do you think Leeds, Sheffield and WBA will win all their games and we are suddenly going to start losing. How come you won 3:1 away at Leeds yet think you are going to lose to QPR, Reading, Wigan and Blackburn. The pressure on Leeds and Sheffield will tell not only intrying to catch us, but WBA are now hot on their heels. We have won our last 7 games and lost 1 in loads. We are getting better each week. We score goalS ( note the S ) in every game and defences are terrified of our forwards, they have to deal with them all not just our one star. If you park the bus, we will rip you apart, If you try to go all out attack, we will rip you apart.

winning tomorrow because we play first will see us 10 points clear - 10 points - if Leeds or Sheffield don’t then win we will need probably 7 points to garuntee promotion. Expect QPR, Reading and Wigan to sit deep and us to go for them for the first 20 minutes as that seems to be a tactic against the teams not full of confidence.

Any doubters left?

It's not a question of doubt, it's a question of having respect in mind for the teams we have to play, who will do their best to take points off us and who if we slip from our high standard can take points off us.  We are not there until we are there.

Yes, I agree this applies to the squad, and I have complete faith in Farke to keep the squad totally grounded for the remainder of the season.

As fans we're not subject to the same rules though, and if you can't enjoy being top of the league, 8 points clear of third, with 6 games to go - when can you be?!

It'll be a fist pump and a couple of glasses of wine for me  (I don't drink a lot anyway) and a good feeling of satisfaction at a job well done.  It's looking good and I'm enjoying it immensely, but I won't relax and enjoy it completely until we are over the line - and we are not there yet.

It's getting tantalisingly close now,  but we still have work to do.

Reading will be a tougher proposition than today. We also haven't won a game without Buendia this season, have we?

One thing was settled today - we can't fail to qualify for the playoffs. Only Norwich, Sheff Utd, Leeds and WBA can now win the title; not that the math matters, it's ours, we are going to win it, and comfortably.

Just win 4 of the last 6 and nobody can catch us.  Amazing to see we are already on the same number of goals as the impressive Wolves for the full season and only 2 pts from where they were at this stage.

If SU win all their remaining games they will finish on 95 points

If Leeds win all their remaining games they will finish on 94 points

Therefore we only need 11 points from our remaining games to win promotion with 95 points.

So we could either -

(1) Win 3, draw 2 and lose 1

(2) Win 3 and draw 3

(3) Win 4 and lose 2

(4) Win all 6

It is highly unlikely that both SU and Leeds will win all their remaining games.

It is almost a given that we will at least achieve (1) or (2),  probably (3) or possibly (4)

Agree with this. Reading and Wigan are fighting against relegation so will be tough games. Stoke have already beaten us once and we never do well at Villa. QPR were absolutely shocking so let's not kid ourselves it will be as easy as that every game.

MP's analysis is reassuring to a point but still work to do to get this over the line.

You can make reasons for any opponents to be a tough game. Everyone thought QPR would have the new (caretaker) manager bounce. They were awful. Why was that? Yep, because we were very good and  they were bang average at best..

Do you think seriously that at the moment, all opposition teams are 100% confident playing against us, because of their own circumstances? Nope. They are where they are for a reason, and we are not going to play 6 teams who (apart from Villa , and it may be too late to worry about by then) have had carp seasons suddenly feel they can turn their season on its head against us. As like yesterday, it's only going to take a breakthrough, to stop teams beating us, as they will not be able to turn it around, because they are not good enough, and we are not bad enough to let 6 games slip away in that manner.

Focus on our strengths (of which there are many) right now, and take that into games, and on here, and believe that we are a stretch better than everybody at the moment, and only have 6 (or less) games to continue that.

We are Norwich, and this season, we are absolutely mind blowing. Sod everyone else, let them fear us.

Of course you are right Crabby but as we saw yesterday strange things like that red card can change the dynamics. IF Reading were to do a smash and grab and IF Wigan were to do similar then the gap to 3rd reduces and there is pressure on our young team. Suddenly the dynamics have changed and the remaining games look harder. As long as those IFs remain we are not there.

There is cautious optimism amongst fans that on current form we will walk this. Thankfully there doesn't seem to be a sense of entitlement amongst us, we are not Scousers, there is work to do and we will do it.

To be fair Capt, after the red card, we won the remaining game of 11 vs 10 one nil too. We we were only 3-0 up when Buendia walked.

To the point that Stoke beat us once, absolutely true, but Stoke also didn't deserve to beat us, they got a lucky OG off Klose and then shut up shop. They defended well, but 9 times out of 10 they end up with a point maximum. We weren't particularly great that day either, and it was just one of those days. I get that the above feeds into the point youre making about strange things happening in football, but ultimately the other thing we know about football is class and quality show through eventually. I'm not taking Stoke for granted and the Britannia has never been a happy hunting ground for us, but I don't think we should be walking in scared, it's not like they took us apart. In fact, given how few games we have lost this year, I would wager the players will be fired up to right a perceived wrong at stoke, especially if promotion isn't secured at that point.

No team has taken 6 points off us this year so far, and Stoke are the only team that possibly could.

The Buendia stat (though true) is a nonsense and doesn’t deserve the attention it’s got. He played in the defeats against stoke and preston. It’s been mentioned we were level in the games when he came on as sub but don’t mention he wasn’t on the pitch when we scored winners against reading, qpr, Wigan, Bolton (though we were leading when he went off) and blackburn. We were 3-0 down when he went off vs Forest. He also wasn’t in the pitch for the equaliser against WBA.

Buendia has been superb, particularly in the last few months but to suggest we’ll struggle to win without him does a massive disservice to the rest of the squad and Farke. Those early, ground out wins that set up the season were largely without Buendia, and certainly when he wasn’t as influential as now.

Again, this is not an attempt to bash Emi as I think he’s the only other potential winner of POTS along with Pukki but we are less of a one man team than we’ve ever ever been.

He will be a miss, but Farke and the boys, as with the rest of the season, will find a way.

Re Buendia stat - it's also true we haven't won a game that Krul hasn't started in either....

We have had this so many times this year, but you must take into account this is a team that adapts and everyone coming in has been as good. These suggestions of now we will struggle occurred with injuries to - Hernandez, Klose, Tettey, Leightner, Vrancic, Trybull, Aaron’s yet each time gone on amazing runs with only Aaron’s I beleive getting his place back once fit.

This is possibly our best ever squad and I suspect whoever comes in - Vrancic, Cantwell, Leightner, Tettey will be a better player than anyone in the Reading or Wigan starting 11.

We are a team and all 11 ( 14 with subs ) will give every last bit of blood for Farke.

My only concern is the loss of Buendia for three games, it shakes up the midfield and asks a player who has barely played in the last couple of months to suddenly come in for a full game, get the result and performance against Reading and I'll be happy to hold my hands up and say it's going to happen.
