Yellowhammer 95 Posted April 3, 2019 There are some similarities between our current season and the 1972 team that most of the season especially the second half of this one the team has remained unchanged. The 72 team was virtually unchanged all season and Dave stringer who I met recently said that the team more or less could tell what the other player was going to do when they had the ball he said they could read each other and worked so well as a team.I am a firm believer in keeping a unchanged team if possible and avoid swapping the team around for different matches .I believe the Leicester team that remarkably won the premiership hardly changed their team either . Chip20 69 Posted April 4, 2019 Aye. I think that team that went up with Green, Drury, Fleming, Mackay etc. went largely unchanged throughout most of the the season too. There is something to be said for consistency and familiarity. That may need to be balanced against workload occasionally and I do worry that replacements could be 'rusty' or not match fit if called upon after an extended period out of the side, but so far this season the replacements have actually performed well when called upon. Should we find ourselves in the Premier League next season (I'm still not enumerating any poultry at the moment but we are so, so close now) I'm sure the consistency and familiarity will stand us in good stead if we can keep hold of most of our key players and add one or two judicious upgrades.
