'Poor' binners

Recommended Posts

It is often the case on here that some of the 'not too bright' over excite themselves when I question figures that are not only bandied about, but accept as gospel. when it comes to transfer fees.

So this might add to that excitement

" Ipswich spent just £436,000 on players in 2017/18 and had player sales of £4.1 million. Total spending in last 7 years is £7.3 million and sales are £22.5 million "

In 7 years worth of player sales, the cumulative total isn't worth one James Maddison or both the Murphys 😂

The question is what happened to that £14m difference ?

Was it used to meet any shortfall, and then dressed up as Evans loaning the club money ?

The 2018/2019 accounts should look better. After all Agent Lambert had a £10 million war chest to spend in the January window. 😐

Unfortunately that was buried on some far flung treasure island (offshore account) and the map has been (conveniently) lost. 🏝️

Benjamin Bloom has done a series of interviews on YouTube with a financial whizz, talking about parachute payments and their effect on the Championship. He also talks about Marcus Evans and his contribution to 1p5wich over the last 10 years. Well worth a look.

The obvious answer is that Ipswich spent more money on wages alone than the total amount they brought in from tv and gate money. That isn't sustainable unless you get promoted. If you leave the division in the other direction it becomes a huge problem.

There is a suggestion in the thread that the combined cost of 3 players was only £400k. I suspect that figure is actually the written down value of those players at the accounting date, not the amount they originally cost.

The new financial fair play rules are going to give them a problem next season. They probably need to halve their salary budget which means moving on poor players on good contracts. As we've found in the last couple of years that isn't easy.
