Sly Dog 1 Posted February 28, 2019 Sorry if posted before but did anyone else note the comment on the Pinkun podcast about Jeremy Goss coming in to give a presentation to ‘close’ a new player signing? An interesting snippet of the lengths needed to achieve transfers.
Icecream Snow 761 Posted February 28, 2019 Are we talking about this Jerry Goss visit, or another one in the future? https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2018/december/jerry-goss-norwich-legend-colney-training-centre/

Sly Dog 1 Posted February 28, 2019 I’ll go hunt it down later but i thought it was that he had helped to ‘close’ a deal by talking to the player in question. I could be wrong

nutty nigel 7,351 Posted February 28, 2019 Wasn't he just! Used to chest balls and wouldn't truck with a helmet.. If we're talking about what Joe Ferrari said it was Timm

If we're talking about what Joe Ferrari said it was Timm. Whispering Death! How Close went out there and faced Roberts & Holding, I'll never know! Will never be repeated on a test wicket. nutty nigel 7,351 Posted February 28, 2019 That picture shows how tough he was. We will never see the like again. Although not quite so brave David Steele was also of that ilk.
keelansgrandad 6,679 Posted February 28, 2019 Funny how I always though Brian Close looked so old but he was only 45 when we recalled him in 1976. He was a good footballer too and could have gone pro. My favourite anecdote is when he was fielding at Gloucestershire off Trueman. He was Short Leg and one delivery had the batsman pull the ball which hit Close on the side of the head and was caught at slip. Afterwards he was asked what if he had been hit full on the head and he replied that the batsman would have been caught at cover. 1
keelansgrandad 6,679 Posted February 28, 2019 Although not quite so brave David Steele was also of that ilk. He was brave enough to say Go back to your constituencies and prepare for Government.
