shefcanary 2,338 Posted February 12, 2019 I met him several times as his nephew is a mate of mine - always had a decent conversation and laughed when he forgave his nephew for making a racket on drums and earning more cash than him! Why Liverpool or any other top team at the time never splashed cash and bought him from Leicester is still a mystery - what would Dirty have been like for instance with him rather than Sprake? ......and Smith must score. 1,304 Posted February 12, 2019 Legend of a goalkeeper and not up his own backside like one or two of the England goalies that followed him. Such a shame he had that car crash which effectively ended his career far too early. RIP

Jools 584 Posted February 12, 2019 A huge inspiration to me in my youth and last I shared his company was over a meal and nine holes at the Links, West Runton in 1997. My condolences go out to his lovely family. Sad news.
dylanisabaddog 4,730 Posted February 12, 2019 A brilliant goalkeeper and a lovely man. But was the save from Pele really the best ever? I'd go for Jim Montgomery of Sunderland in the 1973 FA Cup Final against Leeds. I also saw several from Kevin Keelan including one from a Muhren shot at Portman Road that beggared belief
SwindonCanary 455 Posted February 12, 2019 I played against him whilst serving in the Royal Navy and he was in in the USA
splendidrush 698 Posted February 12, 2019 The word legend is often over used in football, in this case it is entirely fitting. My condolences to his family.
