Where are they now - Wonderkids edition

Recommended Posts

Discussion of Dale Jennings' spectacular fall from Bayern Munich to Runcorn Town in 5 years has sparked a little interest so thought it was time for a main thread.

Who were the "next big things" who turned out to actually just be a big pile of ****?

I'll start us off with Freddy Adu... Number 1 MLS Draft pick and immediately made the highest player in the league aged 14. Nearly went to the world cup aged 16 but spouted off in the press about a lack of playing time and it cost him his spot in the USA squad. 13 teams 8 countries for the kid they seriously touted as the next Pele at one stage.

It's hard to believe Freddy Adu is only 29.

A bit like it was hard to believe he was only 14 when he made his debut.

On the subject of dale Jennings, didn't he take a couple of years out after mk Dons because his kid had leukemia (or some other illness)?

Haha KIO, I was just about to post this! The number of goals he scored for me on CM was frightening.
