I got 7 of those. Bravo Crafty.

As a teenager I stood on a milk crate at the centre spot at no'1 surrounded by shoulder high thistles. Amazing how a big club can fall, rise, then fall again. If only we hand cameras on us 24/7 in those days.

I saw City play at the Valley several times before its initial demise. I was in awe of the huge terraces that seemed to a young lad to reach the clouds. I loved the white kit with red shoulders and black socks and saw Ron Saunders play centre forward for them. I have a bit of a soft spot for Charlton Athletic as a result although I haven't been to the Valley since its revival and redevelopment.

Indeed. A Norwich lad moving to London as a kid was daunting but Charlton were a friendly bunch, Paul Walsh had a lot to do with it too. Not so much the blue lot just up the Thames. That first game was an awakening. 😅

I only went to the Den once and it was the most intimidating atmosphere I have experienced at a football match. It was also the only time I have witnessed fans in the seated stand have a punch up. It was the season we were first promoted to the top tier but lost this game 2-1 if memory serves me correctly.
