the whole idea of a director of football....

Recommended Posts

only comes about because of the boards reluctance and unwillingness to bite the bullet with Worthy. Now that could well be due to financial reasons, but the more loan players we bring in under Worthy''s direction, the less there is in the pot to buy him out. If the board were in a situation where they wanted to, but couldn''t afford to get rid of Worthy, they wouldnt keep finding the cash for more players. The only way I see a D.O.F becomming involved was if the board moved Worthy upstairs to accomodate a new manager. The big problems then arise over what role they have and then you get more rumours about who''s arguing with who, and who is really calling the shots.

To bring in a DOF to work over Worthy wouldnt solve anything.

i really cant understand this "director of football" malarky thats going on these days.. a director of football doesnt do anything. they sit in their office and drink tea all day and meddle in team afairs only when it suits them.

We had this set up once before remember under Rioch and Hamilton... it didnt work.

The manager still goes out and signs the players, the manager still picks the team, the manager still chooses the tactics and sets the training. so what does a Director of football do exactly?

find me one club in the past 10 years in this country thats won anything of note with a director of football setup?

Its some thing brought in from abroad to try and deflect criticism away from a manager and team. which is probably why it will end up happening.

Also, a direcotr of football is going to want loads more in wages than Worthy.. meaning we will be even more up the creek should we want to get rid?

Leave well alone!

jas :)

Unless...the Director of Football has more and more influence in realtion to the team and tactics over the next few weeks, until Worthington says that his position is untenable and walks...could this be a cunning plan by the Board?
