I would recommend that you take a moment and take stock of yourself regarding this comment.

Is there resentment or jealousy involved?

The man was involved in taking a £670MM industry and growing it into a £5.14BB industry. I would call that an amazing success. A success that Norwich City FC has benefited from to a certain degree. Would you not expect a similar 'bonus' for doing such a fantastic job?

One could argue that the 'bonus' should even be more!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with each of the PL teams saying thank you with giving him £250k. Heck, they've maid hand-over-fist multiple-millions off of his efforts. Further, the PL owners AGREED to give it to him, so they can clearly see the benefit he has brought them over the last 20 years.

Maybe you could consider the perspective that the man did a good job and is being rewarded for it?

What - as if £2.5 million a year salary isn't enough of a reward! - imagine what £5 million could do for grass roots football - constant premier league greed from clubs, agents and players is killing the game

Ultimately they've all got their noses in the trough. Players, Managers, Agents Owners and Shareholders can't wait until it all goes t×ts up.I wouldn't mind if some of the money was filtering down but there's little evidence of that.

If it were a golden hello, I’d get your hard economics vs emotion/morality argument .

It’s not, it’s reported to be a discretionary good-bye present. There’s no extra success this gift will buy. It sounds like a gratuity in the worst possible sense.

To the likes of most of us this does look ridiculous but for someone on a £2.5m annual salary it's not really disproportionate. Scudamore has been there for 19 years and helped grow the Premier League income into billions rather than millions. All private money too.

Compare that to some of the housebuilding fat cats who under the government Help to Buy scheme have been in line for bonuses of as much as £100m partly funded by taxpayers cash.

Both cases leave a nasty taste but in the Premier League case the genie will never be put back in the bottle as it's become a financial monster. We certainly won't say no to £100m + if we get promoted again.

A £5m bonus is nothing compared to the £75m bonus given to the head of Persimmon Builders, but it is a case of the rich get richer and whether Scudamore has done a good job or not, he - nor the Persimmon chap for that matter - do not need the extra money and it could have been better spent in some kind of charitable gesture, maybe in his name.

It frankly stinks that people with the money don't see why it looks bad to give such huge bonuses and gifts when there is so much poverty around and lack of resources in the lower reaches of the game.  Bully for him, he gets £5m, but morally it is wrong imo - it is just a case of the rich patting the backside of another rich person.   No wonder people lose respect for those with money when they throw it around so easily and without thinking of the wider picture.

It's the rich who pay the majority of the taxes - and provide the greatest amount to charitable giving - that benefit the poor. If you really want to help the poor then the best way is to create wealth.

will receive an additional £5m windfall as a token of appreciation for his successful tenure.

Might be the trough is already half full given the 5m pressie is "additional"?

I thought that myth was debunked at least 20 years ago.

Wasn't that the gist of Thatcher's 'trickle down' theory......... and there is still not the slightest sign that it ever happened!

If you want a more topical example then you need look no further than the tech giants who have created huge wealth and paid almost no tax in doing so. They've certainly helped the poor by.................providing minimum wage jobs in warehouses or zero hour contract jobs delivering pizzas.

Thanks LDC - you can see where I am coming from here. How much money does one person need? A 2½ million salary for someone who has no more hours in the day than anyone else. His reward was in perpetual employment based upon the work he has done for the bloated Premier League. Morality aside, why does he need two years additional salary? If the FA care about grass roots football and want to enhance the romance of their cup competition, why don't they distribute it across the teams in the earlier rounds?

This is from their blurb-laden website (Which co-incidentally is subtitled 'For All')

He was rewarded with a salary over 15 times that of the Prime Minister plus many 5 star, worldwide perks to go with it.

What exactly has this got to do with the FA? He was the chief exec of the premier League...

Whilst I do kind of agree with people saying how much money does someone need, that is a totally different discussion to whether or not this is disgusting or not. I would say that as a bonus for the work he's done in growing revenue for all involved that isn't actually that out of order, as many have cited, other, corporate payouts are far more egregious...

Fair point, my bad, I still think of the two as interlinked. One of the main premises of the original 1990 Blueprint for Football was to benefit grassroots teams and the national team. Despite protests and warnings at the time that neither of these would happen, the PL was formed and since then the cash divide has got wider.

I always thought it was the FA Premier League. Certainly was originally.

Anyway, as nobody knows of any Just giving page where we could contribute to such a worthy cause maybe we could all sign a card for him?

Wow. Bet people don’t realise that. Are any statistics available regarding the percentage of tax avoidance the same 1% represent?

Let's hope that when Susanna Dinnage takes over she distributes the money a little better.

But can she parallel park and explain the offside rule ?

What's wrong with just giving him a nice carriage clock, a bottle of single malt and a cake an' cards with a lovely send-off party down the local social club?......
