Woodman 92 Posted November 13, 2018 Speaking of the Tampa trip, it was good to see the long term injured players from the first team squad have gone - Carlton Morris, Louis Thompson, Matt Jarvis. Does anyone know if Nelson's gone as well?
KeiranShikari 1,409 Posted November 13, 2018 Think I read that Nelson and Ivo haven't gone.
crispeduk 282 Posted November 13, 2018 Reading David Freezer’s report of the party’s surreal welcome to Florida made me think I can’t be the only one who fears this season is a dream we’ll all wake up from one morning soon! Everything is just so wonderfully barmy!
Surfer 1,547 Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Nice to see that we picked a team to cooperate with that has the same colors... they don't have cheerleaders (unusual) but they do have Pete the Pelican.... Edited October 8, 2019 by Surfer

daly 500 Posted November 13, 2018 Lets hope the trip doesn't come back to haunt them, worked and lived in Sarasota for 10 years or so and it took me 3 weeks to get over the jet lag on my months break back to UK Would have thought a weeks break to the Canary Isles would have achieved the same result without the jet lag problem. BroadstairsR 2,138 Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Actually there are no Canaries on the Canary Islands ..... fact. Same with the Virgin Islands ........................... no canaries on those either. Edited November 13, 2018 by BroadstairsR
Herman 9,710 Posted November 13, 2018 How on earth did it take 3 weeks to get over jetlag? It doesn't even take that long after flights from Australia.

nutty nigel 7,509 Posted November 13, 2018 I wonder if Daniel Farke would have chosen to do this. He didn't sound overly impressed. The sponsorship deal must be worth a lot of money.

BroadstairsR 2,138 Posted November 14, 2018 (edited) If you take into account travelling to Heathrow, airport waiting time, landing, immigration and and customs etc.at the other end the total trip must take the best part of sixteen hours. I hope that they are travelling business class ...if there are enough seats in the plane (?) I'm a bit dubious about the value of this, but might have thought differently had we been floundering mid-table. Is it really for warm weather training or is it some financially beneficial PR exercise? I suppose that they will have full week's recovery. Jet lag seems within the individual. I wouldn't know what it is myself and hardly ever manage much sleep on a plane either. It might effect some players more than others, especially as they probably won't be allowed much booze. Fingers crossed that this jaunt doesn't upset the delicate collective psyche of the squad and is followed by a spell of disappointing results. BobLoz3 492 Posted November 14, 2018 I went to NZ when I was younger and didn't have jet lag, even after losing an entire day in the air. Think I left on a Monday morn and when I got there it was Wednesday morning! Very strange experience. I was like "Where did Tuesday go?!" It was a 26 hour flight. However, after I'd been there for about three days I remember ordering a pizza with my friend over there and, before I knew it, fell asleep while resting my head on my hand. When I awoke, the pizza had arrived and it was half eaten... Not sure if it was jet lag or tiredness... Damn good pizza though!
Alex Moss 2,165 Posted November 14, 2018 Used to spend around 3 months of the year in Bradenton near Sarasota just south of Tampa and St Pete, I would get jet lag from the flight back to Gatwick but it would only last a day or 2. Typical the club sign a partnership with a Tampa company a year or two too late for me, I would definitely be out there at this time of year and that would be pretty cool seeing my home city club getting in some warm weather training on my US doorstep. Great part of the United States 👍
Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted November 14, 2018 East to West in generally considered far worse than vice versa, although some people feel it worse the other way. I travel to and from Japan 3 or 4 times a year and the coming back to London is always considerably worse than going. Sensible preparation will mean the ill effects aren't too keenly felt - football teams doing these kind of trip in preseason generally make small adjustments to player's wake up, meal and sleep times to help overcome it. The bigger issue is due to air pressure changes and prolonged periods of sitting, players are more likely to develop muscle injuries if travelling too close to training - as Norwich aren't out there playing games you'd assume this is shouldn't be a huge issue, but it isn't uncommon for players who are travelling soon after a game to develop something on the flight (which is why many players suddenly get injured upon returning from European or International games). 93vintage 16 Posted November 14, 2018 I suppose these players aren't using public transport or flying with budget airlines. Home to hotel for me is often about 14 hours going to somewhere like Copenhagen, because you've got to allow plenty of time to change coach in London and be at the airport 2 hours before the flight. You know you've lost an hour when you're woken by the hotel cleaning ladies knocking on the door the next morning.
