hucks and fitness

Recommended Posts

Yes, blame me and going to the pub late last night and reading the Pinkun in there, but no, I have re-read it this morning and yes, I did read it as it was.  Huckerby is overworked.

Umm, so he says he can''t recover in time to play a game every three days.  So, this game is 90 minutes of a day, and so is the next one.  In between he has a whole day off (Sunday) then goes into training on Monday for say 3 hours max (if fit, therefore no extra fitness training.  Then matchday two, so v light training, the match and so on, another day off and it starts again.

Mr Huckerby, I have immense respect for your footballing skills and love watching you play, but this is just pathetic.  Why are you not fit enough and why can''t you recover in time for the next match?

Most of us, and I am just including the non-athletic ones here, get up for work, work an average 7 hours a day, five days a week (okay, not running around a football pitch, but then how many players are actively running for the whole 90 minutes?), we get two days off and sometimes have to fit in other work.  We all have off days when we don''t feel our best, but do most of us complain we are unfit and it is all too much?  No, we go out and socialise, get on with must do activities like looking after our family, etc.

Can you please explain how other sportsmen cope, please Hucks?  Athletes, cricketers, etc whose sporting game goes far beyond 90 mins?

Does the entire footballing world think like this, perhaps then it explains why the players only train for 2-3 hours a day as it is all too much for them.  Then one solution

Go and get a real job, for 30+ hours a week on say an average wage of £20,000 a year, yes a year, not week mind, and join the real world.  We don''t get 6-7 weeks off in the summer either!

By the way, I was only drinking J20s  [:)]

Totally Agree!

I''m too tired!

I''ve got a Blister!

My leg hurts!

I''ve got a back ache!

I''ve had too work for a whole 180 mins this week for just £8000 - £20,000 A WEEK!

This Squad is starting to become a reel joke!

NOW SAFRI IS TOO TIRED ALSO!!!!!

If you watched any of that CR*P TV show ''I''m a Celebrity ...'' then you will see that one of the girls on there is married to a footballer. She said live on the show that he only trains from around 9.30am til 1pm each day before having the rest of the day off!!!!

These so called proffesionals are taking the piss!

I''m a self employed floorlayer by trade and I to go to work with more aches and pains than any footballer. I can also work sometimes from 6am for over 18 hours. They probably have people to help clean the house and do general house work as well! These so called sportsmen can''t even run about for more than 200 mins a week!

WHAT IS THE GAME COMING TOO?

I know were only envious!

If they play everyweek, at there best performance level, showing some passion for the game, and train hard. Then most fans wouldn''t mind. The problem is that some (not all) don''t seem to be bothered anymore.

I think the girl on ''I''m a Celebrity........'' is married to Harry Kewell who I understand is on Liverpool''s books although I''ve never seen him turn out for them. I believe it''s tight between him, Jamie Redknapp and Darren Andeton for the official title of ''No. 1 Sicknote'' footballer in the UK so he probably doesn''t do much training as he''s never fit enough to do so!

Gazza!! this subject matter makes me so angry; I agree with all your comments and I wrote a reply to yesterdays "is it only me" post.  It is long winded,  but the subject matter rings the same warning bell that yours does, with a very serious swipe at our pansy boy training in the gym, methods.  The message citing other athletes and their training methods is spot on; who, if they are to be successful make the effort to do five and six times the work done by our pansy lot, and I add, out doors for good measure.  Of course it might frighten the fitness staff if they have to work in the open.  Do we have any fitness staff at City who made or are making a success of any serious contact sport, or marathon work? could this be included as criteria for and during selection to this type of employment.  I''m getting at all the football players&staff , not just Huck''s, but he will keep telling us that he''s the best player at the club, and that jars a bit with me, as it will do with all the other players, 75% participation is not good enough for me!!!

By the way I do''nt drink alchohol I believe it makes one tired??

So you think fans would rather hear ''tired and can''t be arsed for £17k

For your info thsts the first pop I''ver had at Hucks, he''s one of the

stiffle a justifiable citicism.

Seventeen THOUSAND pounds a Week, think about it.No its not envy, I

more its partly MY do$h

As for Safri doing bugger all, try going to a game. \he''s been MoM or

very close in just about every game. He''s been a league above anyone

else this season, including Ashton and Huckerby.

NO ONE said Hucks is a bad player, you''re the one putting words into

people mouths to strengthen a yellow tinted argument.... or is it blue?

I think the equation is too much money = too little effort.

In the case of Huckerby etc they know that in the worst case scenario they can jump ship - so in reality does it really matter if they don''t put in the effort week in week out?   So the manager has a moan, so the fans have a moan but they''ll still get first team football because they''re one of the better players in a pretty average team...

It''s a shame but the days of players bleeding yellow & green blood are fast disappearing over the horizon...!

I think that it is reasonable to suggest that  playing in the Championship is a more draining experience than playing in the Premiership. Perhaps a more rational reaction would be to suggest that he starts less games/swaps with WLY on left wing occasionally to make sure that he can perform to his full potential. He isn''t getting any younger after all. I think he does put in full effort but we have been such a one trick team recently that he has been marked/hacked out of the game by three or more defenders because they know that they have no-one else to worry about. Perhaps you should stop to think where we would be (even this season) without him - ie relegation zone for certain! He got us three points against scum, made 3 pts against Luton safe w second very well taken goal and should have had a penalty against Millwall to name just three occassions.  Maybe you would rather he was playing against us than for us, I know for a fact that I wouldn''t (before I get a load of unrealistic replies that you would). Everybody knows that footballers get paid an excessive amount - thats hardly a deep or perceptive insight. But thats not the point is it,  its quite obvious that everybody wants someone to blame because this season is going tits up. And it seems as though (for some unknown reason) you all love taking it out on him. For goodness sake, get real and give him a break then maybe he can help us turn it around.

Hucks playing against Norwich?

Play him offside as he tends to sit on the shoulder of the last defender and if he gets the ball show him outside, don''t let him come inside and he won''t do too much damage.

how can u slaughter hucks after all he has done over the last 2 seasons. he very much jump-started r promotion season after a slow start, and then he was player of the season last season. i think if anyone is allowed to say they r tired, it''s hucks. i mean, the man is about 27-28, and for someone who runs about for 90 minutes chasing loose-ends he should be congratulated. i mean, i am quick, and in reasonable shape, and i am only 15, but i am tired after 30 minutes of running around playing football for my year at school (who have let in 61 goals without scoring!).

i totally agree footballers get payed too much and that is a fact, but for people to say hucks should get another job, thats pushing the boat out too far.

As a matter of imterest, has anyone here ever played professional football? I''ve only ever played at a, very poor, amateur level, & that used to leave me knackered for all that day plus the next day as well. Professional football is played at a much higher pace. I also remember being deliberately fouled by someone who had played at a decent amateur level &, although I''d obviously been caught before, it was extremely painful & crocked me for a week. Being involved in that sort of challenge several times a match is bound to take a toll.

How many people would like to be pro footballers? I would suggest the competition is immense. This in itself is likely to mean the more faint-hearted are going to fall by the wayside.

I rather think that most of us have little idea just how demanding 90 minutes of professional football can be.

take a builder for example,

up at 7 am on site by 8, climbing ladders, lifting, swinging heavy tools, carrying hevy loads, he gets a half hour break for lunch then continues till 6 pm in the evening.

Darren Huckerby goes training for 2 hours and can then go home and sit on his arse all day if he chooses!

what gets me is that he say he isnt fit for any game.. im assuimng he means the first game of the season 2..... just what is he doing in pre-season then???!!!

im sick of hucks whingeing, infact im sick of Hucks! he has done nothing this season except open his mouth.... do your talking on the pitch or dont bother at all!

While I found Hucks remarks  strange [ DID he actually say them ?? ]    they could be open to misinterpretation ...  maybe he was trying to say  that  the injuries he sustains during a match  [ and he DOES get kicked around !! ]  never clear up fully before the next match ... I`m not talking   about  injuries that  cause lay-offs , but the niggling bruises and strains   that prevent   a player  from being 100% fit ...

As for you being sick of Hucks , King ... well , thats just your opinion !   Hucks HAS  scored four goals  , HAS  played the full 90 minutes  of  22  out of 24 matches this season  ,  whereas  the much vaunted Safri  has only played  10 matches out of 24 ... and scored just one goal    .... you tell me  who the more valuable player is !!    Safri is already gone from this club  in his mind , and will be as useful as  a burning coffin at a wedding to this club  till the end of the season ...    so to turn  and snarl  at Hucks  says more about you than it does about him !

I''ve don a fair bit of building, on & off,& I''ve worked with a few builders. Over one 4 month period I was getting up at 6, building till 9, going to work, getting back at 5 & working till after midnight; for the last month I was building from 7 till after midnight every day. My weight dropped from 11&1/2 stone to 10 stone, mainly because I was too busy to eat. Still doesn''t compare to the prolonged exhaustion I felt after 90 minutes of football.

I have only played blow football, this left me short of breath and with a dribble covered dining room table.

Perhaps we should get a builder in to assist with training. Then we would have Huckerby running around with his shirt off displaying four inches of bum cleavage due to the weight of the rolled up copy of the ''current bun'' in his back pocket and making gratuitous and demeaning remarks to Delia as he passed the dugout.

He would never score again; he would look at the goal, size up the size of the job, tut, suck air in through his teeth as he shakes his head and get back with an estimate the following season.

After the game he''d be the first one in the bar so he could finish the drink he left before going out to play and talk shop at the top of his voice and adding ''plus VAT'' to every other sentence.

Does anyone else have any bright ideas for outsourcing the training. It just might be the answer.

2 of hucks goals have been penalties...

how many has he assisted this season compared to safri? how many times have we seen hucks take someone on and cross it this season compared to others? we havent.

Hucks has had 2 good games this season, Ipswich and Luton. Saffers has had 10 good games this season.

when we beat Plymouth i thought it was because we mixed it up a bit more, hucks wasnt in the team so we couldnt be 1 dimensional and looked a bit better for it.

Watch Hucks this season, How many times does he shepherd it out for a throw? How many times does he put his head down and charge to the byline when the cross is on? or try and beat 1 man too many when we has players in there to cross too, un marked!

How many times has he fallen over then whigned at the referee? he got sent off at Stoke because he couldnt keep his mouth shut and get on with it. Michael Owen gets kicked he gets up and carries on, Hucks gets kicked and he goes on and on and on about it until the ref gets fed up.

Hucks, im sad to say, is a mere shadow of the player we got 2 years ago.... if his greatest asset is his speed then he still has that and should use it to skin defenders.

When he signed for the club i was over the moon, and indeed last season aswell... But towards the tail end of last season Hucks form dipped. he seemed intent on playing his own game and not bringing others into it etc... he comes accross as Lazy, Lethargic, unwilling to join in and only interested when we''re on the attack.

also, people have moaned this season (and last) about the number of goals Drury concedes down his side.. well who''s playing in front of him and losing the ball?

I dont enjoy moaning about Hucks but he hasnt done it this season, or indeed the end of last season. Fatigued? maybe but then he should be rested until fit. Can defenders read him like a book? possibly, hucks has been around a while and doesnt mix it up enough. He needs to work alot harder in my opinion, show some guts and conviction!

If Hucks is reading this i want him to make me eat my words! Ram them down my throat! shut me up! prove to us doubters that the player we signed 2 years ago hasnt been replaced by this whingeing, Lazy player, and the Hucks of old can still shine through and be the player we all love.

Hucks was probably trying to imply that worthy''s high tempo

training  doesn''t give players  time to recover from champ

matches.  Worthy''s training  gets them fit as we''ve

seen,  but if you''re carrying knocks, then it  probably

doesn''t  allow them to heal up properly. Also, when you''re winning

you don''t notice the tiredness, when you''re losing its easy to give up

like we did at millwall - when they scored they became the stronger

team, our boys were cream crackered - did worthy overtrain them?

I think if Hucks has an opinion its worth listening too, given he''s a

quality player - for me he''s vital for us if we''re going to get back up

and he''s shown signs in recent games of getting back to his best.

If he gets jarred off and goes in the jan window, then who else will

get you on the edge of your seat?

So get off his back and give the boy a rest!

To lucky green trainers.. couldn''t agree more. If he does get jarred off and leaves in January then we are buggered. And for the record, I don''t think he was making excuses in this quote, just stating a fact. It is harder work in the Championship and it is harder to recover within 48 hours than it is in a week or two weeks. That much is blatantly obvious I would have thought, so whats the big deal if he comes out and says it!? I personally think he has been playing well recently - admittedly I have only seen the home games - but to come in for the slagging that he has been receiving on these boards recently seems totally unwarranted.

Sorry for the late response to all these posts, but I had to go to work for more than 2 hours a day!!

Seriously, the stuff coming out of his mouth made me so angry I just wanted to go up to Colney and kick some arse.

To those of you who stick up for him, remember this, this attitude of his, and no doubt others who have remained silent so far is a large contributing factor to why we are not doing so well this year.

Yes, Hucks has in the past done well for the club, it might be of interest for you to know I admired his playing style  from the start and took incredible stick from Mumbles at a forum (large crowd too, v humbling) while he was a loan player for asking the club to buy him at the time - also buying a shirt with his name on before he was signed permanently, so don''t tell me I don''t support him as a player, but this is just crap.  Why is he so tired, poor dear, if these players are so fit (or not as the truth seems to indicate) why can''t they muster enough spirit and enthusiasm to play two games a week.  Think Hucks did that in the promotion season without whingeing about being tired, too many games etc, etc.

This season is fast descending into pure farce and we, as a club are becoming a laughing stock, funnily enough won''t need to go to the Theatre Royal to see a panto this year, have one already paid for at (formerly) the Fortress Carrow Road.

If Hucks or any of the other players are reading this, get a grip of yourselves and start earning your wages.  I hope no one has been offended by this post, but I haven''t been so angry about this club since Fat Boy was in charge.

Has Worthy ever thought about getting a builder to leave his white van in front of the goal?  Or even using it as a right whinger, sorry winger?

So saying that he can''t recover and there are too many games which he can''t recover from etc, etc is not evidence enough?

This is not a witch hunt, just further evidence for the whole season''s fiasco - why do you supppose things are going so badly - it sounds, if Hucks is a yardstick anyway, that the season is over as far as the players are concerned.

I don''t recall him complaining of too many games etc two years ago.
