I am Puzzled....

I am confused by the signing of the right back! Is this an

acknowledgement that the two signings over the summer are

disappointing, or are they both injured? If so why can''t Flem fill in

at right back, or is he ear-marked to replace Davenport when he goes?

In which case what is wrong with Shackle, who seems to be back in light

training? Is there a risk, or is he out of favour completely?

Why is Wright to be with us for only one month? Is this for legal (FA)

reasons? It seems strange if a Worthington beloved "utility" player,

who will replace Davenport, will be here only a week or two after

Davenport leaves.

Or is Wright to fill in initially ar right back and then central

defence. He could become as confused as I am! Or are the rules or purse

strings so tight that we can have only a one month loan.

Bearing all this in mind, there does seem to be something of a panic

here. Is someone''s job on the line? It''s not many weeks ago that we

were told that that the squad size was adequate. Since then we have had

four loan players - Marney, Etuhu, Davenport, and Wright. We told you

so!

I thought that perhaps it was so he can pair Colin with the Doc in the middle once Dav goes back.  But Wright is only here for a month, so that can''t be it.

It''s cover for MLJ who''s picked up a rather long injury and another who can play central defence with Davs returning to Spurs imminently.

I heard on the radio today, that the ability to get a loan signing is frozen from some date next week until the transfer window in January. Maybe that has something to do with the timing.

Wright`s  contract is up at the end of this season , and  then is free to do a Bosman  , it looks as if Nigel  may be looking at wrights progess here  at the end of the loan period  , with a view to a permanant signing !  ..... IMO we could do worse ... he`s a product of the Crewe academy  ,  and   looks to be useful  as a right back , central defence , and as a midfield  player !

Mate, Flem at right back - are you joking? Just because he''s been put

there before doesn''t mean it works! I think our worst performances this

season have coincided with him being out there. It''s not fair to have a

go at him for it because he doesn''t belong there any more than Charlie

belongs in the middle. But it ''aint a solution to any of our problems.

Shackell is touch and go as to whether he''ll be ready when Dav goes,

MLJ still out, Colin could go in the middle in the event of further

injuries so another defender, whether central or right makes some sense

i guess. Central would be preferable but we''ve been looking for one for

ages to be fair and not found the right person yet to replace Malky.

Every successful team has a central defensive commander - Terry,

Ferdinand, Campbell and it''s no surprise to see the current div 1

leaders with two commanding central defensive players Unsworth and

Craig Short. We have none. The doc is improving but i don''t see him

becoming a defensive marshall in the way malky was.

I think there''s no mystery. It''s just right back cover until MLJ is fit again. Good move especially as Jurgen is so inexperianced at championship football.
