USA Canary 7 Posted November 21, 2005 I think Huckerby may be best utilised as a super-sub that could come on in the 60-70 minute when the opposing defenders are beginning to get tired. Look what happened when he came on as a sub against Ipswich. In most matches he''s marked by two or three defenders at a time and then towards the end of the match he''s too tired to defend (not that he does anyway) or attack. If he''s not on form in an attacking sense, he turns into a liability as it is hard to maintain a good formation/shape when he''s in the side.Your thoughts... nolegs 0 Posted November 21, 2005 So logically, you would only be bringing him on if we were losing and giving him 15-20 to turn the game round,,mmmmmmmmmmmm a waste of resources spring to mind.would it not be better to start him and tell him to run his nuts off, then sub him when he''s blown. beelsie 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Good points Mr C, Hucks know''s his football, he says. It is correct that his defensive skills need a tweek, and a smattering of effort so that he becomes a valuable team player. It also seems that off the bench, Huck''s, is more likely to show how valuable he can be!!You know, he says that he is one of the best footballers at the club, is this statement a trifle disconcerting for the team morale? especially when twentyfive % of his game is non existant, and because of this IMO he negates the effectivness of the teams ability, as a whole, to take advantage of the gaps left by the opposing defence, two or three of whom are of course marking our best player, who may be left to get on with his diaplay; by other lesser mortals of course!!! a1canary 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I''ve long been an advocate of this. A fresh Huckerby coming on with 20minutes to go is the last thing that the opposition will want to see.The same could be said for Leon in our champ winning season when heplayed the super sub role to great effect. So much so that he got inthe team as part of the 4-3-3 formation we saw at the end of thatseason. And for the start of the game there''s a lot to be said for having thebalance the genuine left and right wingers give us. Brennan plays bestat left midfield and he''s done pretty well when he has been in there. Hucks won''t like it though!

ZLF 261 Posted November 21, 2005 Hux plays well when then midfield give give decent passes. On Sat what happened for the first time in a long while was that hux received the ball FACING the opponents goal AND nearer their goal than his own. Time and again Thorne or Ashton laid the ball off for hux to attack the defence at pace and caused luton all sorts of problems. - including a 1st half goal that we would not have had with him on the bench - no one else has the pace to take that chance from ashtons pass.Play your best players from the start in their most effective position - currently that means hux on the left off ashton and thorne. lucky green trainers 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Hucks has been short of his blistering pacefor a few games now - wouldn''t be surprised he has been carrying aniggle (an injury not worthy that is), but on saturday looked back tohis flying best. Brennan is a left back, but never has the chance toplay there. he is not a left midfielder for me, he''s short of creativeideas when going forward and doesn''t take defenders on, especially whencompared to hucks. Huckerby isn''t a luxury, he''s a necessity if we are going to get closeto the play-offs, but it needs a good solid centre midfield pairing toprovide the defensive cover - which hopefully we have now. USA Canary 7 Posted December 11, 2005 Just as I mentioned before... Huckerby can destroy a defence that''s half tired...just as he did at Crewe yesterday and the last time he came on as sub (i.e., Ipswich). We should save him for the last 30-40 minutes of a match. ncfcanna 0 Posted December 11, 2005 He is definately best coming off the bench when we''re away. We broughthim on just at the right time. But at home he should be starting.
Rudolph Hucker 0 Posted December 11, 2005 Huckerby needs to be used selectively, sometimes from the start but not regularly and not away from home. It is a shame we do not have players capable of holding the ball in order to build our way into matches first.
lucky green trainers 0 Posted December 11, 2005 hucks looks like he''s lost a yard of pace this season, hence my injuryassumption above, but he was getting back to his best before latestankle knock.also, hucks may have appeared to look a defensive liability thi season, but only because our central midfield has been dross for most of it,our defence has been too exposed - especially away from home. Ifdicko and robbo can perform well here, they''ll be adequate protectionfor our back 4 and we''ll look more solid, even away from home.Hucks is our main creative outlet, he knows how, when and where toplace a ball to craft a goal - anyone can hoof a hopeful ball into thepenalty area.Unless he is out of form, then leaving a player like this on the bench is reckless, he should start every game.
