How much would it really cost to sack Worthington?

Recommended Posts

There are really only three reasons why Delia won''t sack Worthington:

1. He is a friend. If this is the reason then the current Board shouldn''t be let anywhere near running a professional football club.

2. They somehow feel that he can turn things around. In this they will by now be out of step with virtually every regular fan and deceiving the evidence of their own eyes game after game. Its not credible that they feel things are anything other than seriously flawed right now, even more so after Worthington has publicly criticised the players.

3. It would cost this club too much money by way of compensation. Only a few months ago they were prepared to spend £2m on Clinton Morrison. Now, I would like to know how long Worthington has left on his contract and how much compensation he might be due (if we can estimate his salary).

If he is paid £5K a week and has two and a half years left that is still "only" £625,00 and less if a deal is done. It would still leave nearly £1.4m of that Morrison money left over plus any more in the transfer kitty for a new man to spend (if he needed to after reinvigorating the team).

Surely if we had funds to spend on Morrison we should now spend some of that money on getting rid of Worthington right now- the cost of relegation to League 1 is far greater than the cost of a change in manager.

Surely if Worthy and the Board had any sense they would see that the best thing for all concerned is to come to some financial compensation agreement over sacking Worthy.  What Worthy, Delia and the rest have to remember that there is no one individual bigger than the club and that they are merely custodians and should do what is right for the Club in the long run.   Worthington should realise that and come to some financial agreement which does not involve a full pay out.
