nevermind, neoliberalism has had it 159 Posted March 3, 2017 Long time no posts, been busy elsewhere. An update on the last GE cheating, re expenses, The Conservatives are now being investigated by the police for cheating in fiftytwo, yes 52 constituencies, including that of Robert Halfon, Anna Soubry and David Cameron. This from an independent investigator who has done some brilliant research to cheer us all up.Thing is..... what will/could the Electoral Commission actually do if they found guilty of cheating when the long grass gets cut?http://www.isbuc.co.uk/expenses/
canarydan23 4,701 Posted March 3, 2017 I''ve no doubt they did break electoral law to win the election and that without their illegal intervention we would not have had a Tory majority government. This would also have prevented economic suicide (aka Brexit). However, even if found guilty what can they feasibly do? You can''t turn back time and I suspect all the Electoral Commission could do is force byelections in the salient seats. The best one could hope for is that they lose a handful of these byelections, enough to shrink or even eradicate their majority.Somewhere there is a parallel universe in which Ed Miliband is Prime Minister and the country is a much, much better place. Who''d have thunk?
nevermind, neoliberalism has had it 159 Posted March 4, 2017 The Electoral Commission is dependent on the party of the day for their funding, they are not Independent or have their funding de coupled, hence not much action from them. I have personal experience with their denial of problems during elections. But what can be done? Can courts order a switch of Government if the Conservatives are not the legitimate party?. Can they quash whatever has happened during their time of imposition? Would we want to grant a party that has not been punished for cheating the electorate, to fight a general election? would they just do the same thing again, just similar? Labour should be in power and hopefully would have the pluck to secure iys future by being progressive towards the electorate and other parties.I mean granting voters a fair proportional vote for the first time, and in all elections, by law, a policy, imho, that would ring bells cross party and make sense.Postal voting should be scrapped, those disabled should be visited, as is done in Ireland, not a problem. Electoral counting should be done in the place were people cast their vote and results should be observed locally and then reported to councils, moving ballot boxes is asking for it.Electronic voting is not an answer, machines are adjustable and fraud will increase, there is nothing wrong with counting votes for three or four days, why the hurry with such an important decision. But I agree with your sentiments, just don''t expect any fairness from the EC, they have to think of their survival....take care
