The Never-President Trump

Recommended Posts

The problem for the GOP will be that they are very publicly backing him up. For example just today:

I know it's just Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Green pulling McCarthy's chain, but they are the GOP the public sees.

I think they are looking for one indictment and they can distance him. De Santis would then have plenty of ammo to hurt him.

I won't repost Trump's post about De Santis, but it's tasteless, would get you sued for libel in the UK, and may also be very effective in putting an end to De Santis' (for legal reasons still undeclared but also very obviously already started) presidential run.

But the accusations are a typical Trump tactic. Its now out there. But will anyone be fooled by it? For anyone about to be arrested for a crime involving sex, to make accusations is psthetic, stupid and dangerous.

But for all the ever-widening chorus of GOP political leaders throwing chaff into the air to distract our attention...maybe all Donnie actually bought with his "I will be arrested on Tuesday" tweet was winning a news cycle or two before the really big national security hammer hits him.

Indictment backfiring much 😉

The poll also shows that the majority of Americans think that indicting Trump will either hurt his campaign or have no effect.

Not really backfiring but your usage of statistics hasn't improved much.

The Trafalgar Group  would appear to have an inconsistent record

Correctly calling the 2016 presidential election, but getting the 2022 mid terms completely wrong

"What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former President of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting President in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a Crime, when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed, & also known that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country?" Mr Trump wrote on Friday.

Spot the humility.

I think the Americans, particularly the GOP,  need to be vey careful where they are heading. Trump clearly doesn't want to abide by democratic norms, an attempted coup in all but name,  and it now doesn't seem so far fetched that if he should 'win' another term he wouldn't then contrive to be president for life!

Well the GOP are falling over their feet to appease him at the moment. MTG and Gaetz visited some of the Jan 6 rioters in prison and complained about their conditions. There is no quid pro quo or acknowledgement that they contadict everything they stand for when it suits.

Now Trump has said that if he wins, anyone associated with De Santis won't get a job in the administration. This flies in the face of all known laws but he is allowed to say it. The Land of the Free?

Meanwhile, in the "can't have been born so stupid so it must only have come in practice" stakes, here's this stonker.

May be a Twitter screenshot of 1 person and text that says "Lauren Boebert @laurenboebert I'm living the American dream. I came up from welfare, standing in ine waiting for government cheese, to now running for Congress. Let's keep radical socialists out of government so that people can be empowered to lift themselves out of poverty, rather than wait on government! 10:28 AM Sep 16, 2020"

Let the games begin .... I've just ordered a beer and popcorn. That Guardian headline buries the true lede - indicted on 30 counts of business fraud. It was never just about that sex worker, despite what Fox/Republicans are spinning.

If the allegations this morning are correct, Trump should be indicted for being stupid.

It's bad enough that the money was paid to Daniels but seeking to reduce the cost by claiming it as a business expense displays a huge lack of judgement.

Some old aide of his was saying that these were just minor charges and shouldn't have needed these legal cases. I say look at the history of Al Capone and how he was finally taken down.

Precisely, which is why it's such a stupid thing to risk and for a relatively minor amount.  Although there are 34 charges which we won't hear until next week. We're going to have to bulk order popcorn.

Just heard there is potentially another charge in Georgia in respect of attempted fraud.

There is a temptation to laugh but America is supposed to be the most important country in the world.

The Today programme may be worth listening to for a change.

Maybe not, Kemi Badenoch is coming on.
