The Never-President Trump

Nobody gives a sh!t what celebrities like Brad Pitt think about politics. If you look to celebrities for your moral and/or political guidance them you're a bigger fool than I thought you were.

Trump is a celebrity, you just described yourself as a fool.

Depends on your priority Herman. If it is to defeat Trump, yes he's a viable candidate. If it is to get the corrosive influence of unrestrained spending (both "declared" and "dark" monies) out of politics, then he's much less attractive. But I'd have to say that based on the past three years evidence the former is more important than the latter right now, and unfortunately the Supreme Court would also have to reverse their stupid "Citizen's United" decision that allowed political spending by individuals and companies to be considered "free speech" and therefore must be unrestrained.

The only democratic candidate you should not be liking is Bernie Sanders. And for exactly the same reasons as Jeremy Corbin. He has such a bad press and as a self declared "socialist" he'll never be acceptable to the swing voters in the Mid West states that will decide the election. It will not matter if the Democrats win California by 20 million votes, its the Mid West states that count. So the two from that part of the country - Klobuschar and Buttigieg - plus the former V.P Biden are those most likely to be successful.

It's a case of getting rid of Trump first and foremost, but the risk of getting someone nearly as worse is a worry. Without Trump egging things on the rise of nationalism/fascism and autocrats will wane hopefully, so a touch of holding my nose and hoping for the best may be on the cards.

On a personal level I don't dislike Bernie but, as you say, it could possibly be simply handing the presidency to trump.

US President Donald Trump's ability to wage war on Iran without congressional approval has been limited in a Senate bill passed by his fellow Republicans.

The Iran war powers resolution was approved by a vote of 55-45 - hours after Mr Trump warned that it would make America less safe from Iran.

The House passed a version of the bill in January, after Mr Trump ordered the killing of a top Iranian general.

Mr Trump is expected to veto the bill once it reaches the White House.

So the lawmakers resolve to temper Trump's powers, and lo and behold, he uses unlimited power to veto it.

Yeah he can basically veto anything as it takes a 2/3 majority in both House and Senate to override a veto and he has at least 1/3 of the Senate in his pocket. Nothing will pass that the President does not like, so no election security bills for sure will even come up for a vote in the Senate... it’s gridlock until Jan 17 2021 now.

And to the point of "the do nothing Democrats" that Rock The Boat parroted, here is Senate Leader McConnell admitting there are almost 400 bills passed by the Democratic lead House that he, as Senate Majority leader, has no intention on allowing debate on....

SO all you Trumpettes out there, well RTB anyway. We heard you banging on about democracy during the Brexit farce. How do you reconcile democracy with what Trump does?

Meanwhile.... over 2,000 yes TWO THOUSAND former Department of Justice employees have signed this letter.

Background, the President and his Attorney General are now publicly interfering with US Federal Courts system...

We, the undersigned, are alumni of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) who have collectively served both Republican and Democratic administrations. Each of us strongly condemns President Trump’s and Attorney General Barr’s interference in the fair administration of justice.

Oh, talking of pardons..... this is very interesting : brought to him by now retired Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher - and if it is true very, very corrupt. BTW when will Boris release the Russia report?

As Washington roils over indications that President Donald Trump may pardon his longtime ally Roger Stone, a London court heard Wednesday that the U.S. president offered WikiLeaks leader Julian Assange a pardon.

All Assange had to do, the court learned Wednesday, was deny what multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have substantiated: that it was Russian hackers who provided WikiLeaks with the emails damaging to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

https://www.ocregister.com/2020/02/19/lawyer-assange-was-offered-us-pardon-if-he-cleared-russia/

Rohrabacher is apparently someone else that the President has never met or spoken with - funny how that happens to everyone who gets questions about dubious or illegal political or business activities.....

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said, “This is absolutely and completely false.” U.S. President Donald Trump “barely knows Dana Rohrabacher other than he’s an ex-congressman. He’s never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject,” Grisham said. “It is a complete fabrication and a total lie

Assange is facing extradition to the US on 18 charges over leaked diplomatic cables.

He faces up to 175 years in prison if found guilty.

Funny how extradition isn't that important if its the other way round even if you kill someone. Be brave Boris and tell them to fcuk off unless they send us Sacoolas.

And now the pardons of some of the most corrupt politicians and police and financiers.

The unraveling of Americas is picking up speed. Thank God we have elections in November - if they are free and fair.

It unravelled quite a lot under Obama, if pardons are anything to go by:

Total Presidential pardons/sentence commutations:

Carter: 566

Reagan: 406

H.W Bush: 77

Clinton: 459

George W: 200

Obama: 1,927

Trump: 26

I'm pretty sure you understand how the democratic process works in a Presidential system. It's the same for all sides, too.

And Brexit wasn't a farce, we've got our sovereignty back and we are a free and independent nation again, just like most of the rest of the world.

And Trump will win in November.

Yes, Trump will probably win. He's got Fakebook and Murdoch on his side. Nice bit of brainwashing going on.

Politically and morally you are a “useful idiot” aren’t you?  It’s not the number of pardons that is of any issue, it is the reasons behind these pardons. Trump’s pardons are for the corrupt, for potential political allies who can help him, or those who will remain silent about what they did because a pardon is available, and those cases that can be used to undermine a society’s core values to provide cover for his next corrupt act.

it’s not clemency that drives an authoritarian it is the aggregation of power and destroying the will of the governed to resist, or care anymore.

Is that perhaps what rocks your boat?

A certain Nigel Farage keeps popping up in this story. Why did he go to the Ecuadorian embassy. Did he enjoy his fishing trip with Rohrbacher?? Mysteries waiting to be solved.

Bent as a nine bob note the lot of them. Da.

And the joke about sovereignty continues

Like I said, the US has a presidential system and the UK has a prime ministerial system. They are not the same.

If and when a Democrat candidate gets to be President then he/she will have exactly the same presidential powers as Trump.

So quit your whining about Trump.

Of course there are are other pictures / stories that confirm he does know him... interesting that Rohrabacher does not deny he made the claimed offer to Assange, just says that he didn't talk to the President about it

Spoken like a true politician actually. I don't give a money's who is in power. The question I asked which you ignore, is whether a veto by anyone person is democratic?

Ah yes, its your kind of democracy because it suits.

Had to laugh at another Trump faux pas.

He tried to be funny by wondering why Parasite won the Oscar. A tale about the disparity between rich and poor. Why don't they make films like Gone with the Wind he said. A film about black slavery if the US.

Somebody replied that he wouldn't have enjoyed Parasite as he can't read😂

There is no doubt that if you pat your head,  rub your tummy and hop on one leg all at the same time you won’t get the virus, it’s going to be wonderful.

I liked how he said that normally 25K US citizens die of the flu every year anyway. (Probably about the same as die in shootings) And nobody in the US has died of this virus. Well, statistically Donald, the same amount will die this year of the annual round of influenza. This virus is on top of the normal one.

It's about 36K each year for shootings, probably why they think it's not that importatnt to deal with Coronavirus properly.

There really is no low with this guy -

While it is important not to panic or sensationalize the Coronavirus threat, what you also don't need is politicians minimizing the situation - and we have exactly that here in the US. And of course its our friends at Mr. Murdochs propaganda channel that are taking the lead and the President and his sycophants amplifying the craziness. This is NOT what we need, if the 30% or so die hard Republicans buy into this we may be seeing a major problem over here that will be totally self-inflicted.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — President Donald Trump on Friday night tried to cast the global outbreak of the coronavirus as a liberal conspiracy intended to undermine his first term, lumping it alongside impeachment and the Mueller investigation.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/28/trump-south-carolina-rally-coronavirus-118269

Some of President Donald Trump's most ardent supporters in media have downplayed concerns about the novel coronavirus this week and misled their audiences by telling them that news organizations and members of the Democratic Party are weaponizing fear in a bid to hurt the President's re-election efforts.

Fox News hosts such as Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham have advanced this conspiratorial line of thinking, as has conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, among others.
