It’s a totally prepared prosecution v’s an amateur hour defense, but you are correct the fix is in.

No Republican will vote against the President, the only question is are they scared to do so, do they think what he did does not matter, or do they secretly agree they’d do the same thing?

This will transition to a major battle over the security of elections, voter suppression and the evils of gerrymandered districts. This farce of a trial is just the setup for that bigger issue that will play out. Democrats for America v’s the President and his corrupt Republican Party....

If anyone is wondering why the prosecution is arguing for the documents and witnesses that that the Republican senators don’t want to hear, well it lets them outline the evidence that those documents and witnesses would confirm, and which they can’t talk about under the Senate Leader and his a Republican colleagues rules.

The stupidity of President Trump's legal team's "defence" of course crosses over to Fox News ..... this is (former) Judge Jeanine Pirro

Yes seriously she was a judge - so there is either an obvious reason why she still isn't, or she thinks she can con the public who watch Fox News.... or both.

Meanwhile as a result of a Freedom Of Information Act lawsuit the administration just released some new documents around the withholding of funds to Ukraine.

Great! Progress as the administration had previously refused to release these under a House subpoena.

Except that it looks like this - but, nah there is no cover up going in. Move along .....nothing to see here.

Meanwhile "we have the cleanest air, we have the cleanest water" claims the President except that :

https://www.courthousenews.com/epa-sued-over-inaction-on-air-pollution-plans-for-11-states/

“Oil and fracked gas drilling is a major contributor to the smog that’s poisoning the air for millions of people across the U.S.,” said ... the Center for Biological Diversity. “The Trump EPA is working overtime to protect the polluters responsible for the smog that’s triggering asthma attacks and other serious health problems that routinely send people to the hospital.”

He just doesn't want to spend money on it as nothing is going to stop it until China, India and Russia come on board.  Bigger priorities methinks.

Of course there are.

Yes, securing a second term by agreeing and being bribed with hard nosed businessmen in the US who do not give two monkeys because they will be dead when we are using oxygen masks just to watch football.

But as Tesla is the second biggest car manufacturer by investment then maybe some people are ignoring Nest Head and thinking ahead.

Meanwhile ... such bravery from the Republican Senators.

Recent polls show that 70% of the American public want to hear from witnesses, seems the Republican Senators don't care or are too scared of what the American public would hear to allow it to happen.

Meanwhile, not that the Republican Senators will care, but public polling shows a continuing shift in sentiment in favor of impeachment (which already happened) calling witnesses and evidence for the trial (unlikely to happen) and conviction and removal from office (never going to happen)

Yes this Fox poll is the same as Fox News, so it's not a "left wing, biased poll"

Meanwhile, somebody is VERY worried tonight : if true this essentially destroys the President's defense:

And if the White House internally distributed that material it destroys the credibility of his lawyers too.

So the only question is - are the Republican Senators going to ignore this too (answer is yes they will)

Meanwhile - someone else who went totally unhinged this weekend when asked about his lack of defense of the US Ambassador ....

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.  Perhaps the stress of covering up their lies is getting to some of them after all.

Pompeao.jpg

And now he's gone and been even more petty..... a seriously vindictive dude this Pompeo. The Press have special protections under the US Constitution for just these authoritarian tendency reasons.

Well I'm glad this thread keeps you occupied during the winter months, Surfer. And I'm glad you recognise that Trump will never be convicted but it does beg the question why do you think that?

I know why. Because the whole pony show is an attempt to divert America's attention away from the fact that the Democrats have no personalities and no policies that could possibly lead the US into the 21st century. So in order to cover up for their deficiencies and unelectability, the Democrats resort to playing political games instead of proving themselves fit for office.

The parallels with Corbyn's Labour party are real. Either Biden or Sanders could be parachuted into the leader of the Labour party's role, and vice versa.

The people have shown they deplore the virtue-signalling wokeism and identity politics of the Left. They want leaders who will make their country great again. We got ours and in November the US will re-elect theirs. People are fed-up with the game-playing.

I thank you for your opinion Rock The Boat.

As to your question, well it is a very good question. I say it because the Republican leadership has said it. But I think your question is better posed to the Republican Senators. When you have overwhelming indirect evidence that the President did what he's accused of, why would you vote to acquit him of the charges; and if you are uncertain that he did what he's accused of, why would you vote not to hear from any witnesses or to accept any documents that the President has been suppressing which could verify or refute the charges?

I'll leave that with you to ponder.

I'm reporting on events because the very essence of American democracy is at stake. Elections must be fair, and be seen to be fair. It's not about policies (as terrible as many of Trump's are that's why we have elections to set a course for the country and to enable a new government and President) but if our elections are not fair everything is lost.

Meanwhile .... Republican Senators just cancelled their press conference. Any idea why that might do that?

Meanwhile, this legal defense team is something else.

Trying to turn the trial of President Rump into a trial of the alleged wrongdoings of Hunter Biden...and getting outraged about much he made compared to "average Americans" (approx $50,000 per year ) it's funny how the attorney in question failed to disclose her own overseas funding. Or not surprised really.

Huawei - Bluff called Trump.

The real issue is that China's long term planning - not the short term termism of the UK and USA has left Huawei as the true leader in this technology. Failure to invest strategically in Ericsson or indeed Nokia by our 'western' governments over decades have made the choice obvious. Yes the 21st century may very well belong to China (and later India). This decision keeps us friendly with China - probably more important now for our long term future than any US trade deal.

More than a hint.... McConnell is calling in the right wing media cavalry.

Caught between the vice of no defense presented that refuted any submitted testimony or documents, 75% of American wanting to hear witnesses and the White House "forgot" to tell Republican Senators they had had a copy of John Bolton's damning book since Dec 30... the plan to vote to acquit on Friday so that the President can crow on Sunday in his pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox's Sean Hannity looks to be dead now.... but we will see.

Meanwhile, desperately trying to find a reason to vote for no witnesses or documents, and ignoring that that is exactly why he's impeached.

Mr. Hannity may yet find himself in the  cross hairs of this or follow up investigations, like Mike Pompeo he appears to be "in the loop" on this.

Meanwhile... this is the unbelievable argument that the President's legal team are making.

That is not how the US system works, that is what Divine Kings claim to be able to do.

But this clearly illustrates the absolute corruption of the Republican Party is they agree with this - and sadly they will.

I'm now fully resigned that the fix is indeed in Herman. Even for not calling any witnesses. Today's Republican Party is so corrupt that they will ignore the clear evidence in front of them, that there was some really bad sh*t going down and we ought to hear what that was from the first hand witnesses that the President denied the House access to. Polls show 80% of the country wants that. But they are going to vote no to that and they are going to vote to acquit the President on Friday. All while making the argument that nothing our President does if he says the magic words "I believe it's in the interest of the country" can ever be an impeachable offense. By this action they give the President the green light to do ANYTHING he wants. Only if he's Republican I'm sure.

I used to think just what are they hiding that they are so scared of? But sadly this is the way the Republican Party works across the United States. All they care about is power, and they will retain it by whatever means.

And the saddest thing of all, the media are just going along with this - they should be screaming from the rooftops that the is not how our system of government works!  This is the USA and government swears an oath to protect the Constitution not any individual politician. However the President controls the money in his party, he controls a broadcaster and Republicans apparently would all rather fall in line with a dictator than stand up and be counted. And unfortunately the President could lose the next election by 8 million votes, and still be reelected if four Midwest states with a combined population less than that of Lost Angeles decide to narrowly vote for him again (or the voter rolls are purged of democrats, or the polling machines are hacked)
