The Never-President Trump

Recommended Posts

With 9 days to go it might be better to focus an ensuring the incoming Democrats can hit the ground running with getting to grips with Covid, and concentrate in clearing up the mess Trump has left behind.

Criminal charges for Trump will follow, as allegations made about his activities relate to state offences, and so do not need government approval or consent.

His Lord Haw Haw style social media rants have been all but blocked off. The loony righties are being rounded up by the hour, and so there is no real urgency to distract from the huge task ahead.

US First Lady Melania Trump has issued a statement, saying she is "disheartened and disappointed" with events last week.

But she also said she had been the victim of personal attacks since the storming of the Capitol.

"I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me - from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda," she said.

"This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain."

Mrs Trump thanked "the millions of Americans who supported my husband and me over the past four years and shown the incredible impact of the American spirit".

If ever an act justified impeachment, it is the sitting president inciting a mob to attempt an insurrection at the very seat of government. While I understand that this will undoubtedly infuriate Trump's die-hard deplorables, and potentially encourage them to riot, it seems to me far more dangerous in the long-term to let this act pass without the president being held to account. The US cannot allow their justiice system to be held to ransom by threats of violence from a lawless mob. And certainly no president can be allowed to make use of such a lawless mob in order to subvert the democratic process. For the sake of continued democratic government I can see no other option but to impeach the president if the Republican Party continues to refuse to remove him from office. There simply have to be substantive consequences delivered to a president who has behaved in the way Trump has done.

Like I have commented several times the GOP / Republicans could have stopped Trump if they wanted to. They could have dropped him from the ticket immediately before his election, they could have censured him for denying Congress authority over the budget, they could have voted to at least hear evidence at the impeachment trial, they could vote to censure him now. That they have done none of these things demonstrates that they do not want to stop him, however the so called  moderate GOP Senators have an out when it comes to a second impeachment trial. The 2/3 vote to convict is 2/3 of those “present” so if they still can’t bring themselves to vote against the traitor they can just stay away for that day.

But hasn't the GOP been the party of fear for a long time now? Many urban areas are drifting further away from their selfish politics.

Yes, but at the same time the GOP have been getting stronger in the more rural areas. Voter suppression and gerrymandering constituency boundaries compensating for loss of actual support for their policies. A ruthless bunch of spineless cowards sums them up nicely,

Oh and part of the Big Lie is that the Democratic Party has become a front for Communists so you must vote GOP to save America. This lie is continuing even with GOP senators who have backed off the stolen election propaganda. The parallels with UKIP / Tories and Brexit are very clear.

American Polls are not very accurate I am sure it’s far worse than this

Trump's approval rating 'at record low' after riot

A majority of voters say Trump should resign, according to a new opinion poll from Quinnipiac University, with 56% respondents saying that they hold Trump responsible for the riot on Capitol Hill.

The poll also found that Trump's approval rating has dropped 11% since last month.

He is now at an all-time low of 33% favourable and 60% unfavourable, according to the survey.

The survey of 1,239 registered voters was conducted from 7 to 10 January.

A separate poll from Politico and Morning Consult also found last week that Trump's ratings appear to have fallen to the lowest point of his entire presidency.

I think it is true that since this rating came in Trump is the only US president whose approval rating never once reached 50 per cent, and yet he claims to find it unbelievable that more people voted for Biden than for him.

Jools mate Ruddi hits the headlines

The New York State Bar Association is launching an inquiry into President Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

The inquiry will determine whether Giuliani should be removed from the membership rolls of the country's largest voluntary state bar association.

In a statement on Monday, the NYSBA "strongly condemned" the president and those who had aided his efforts to overturn the election.

Mere hours before the invasion of the US Capitol, Giuliani told the assembled mob of Trump supporters: “Let’s have trial by combat.”

Citing these words and the "hundreds of complaints" it had received about Giuliani's "baseless" legal efforts to contest Joe Biden's election victory, the NYSBA said the inquiry would give him an opportunity to explain himself.

"This decision is historic for NYSBA, and we have not made it lightly," the statement concludes. "We cannot stand idly by and allow those intent on rending the fabric of our democracy to go unchecked."

I thought this only happened to the Egyptian Pharaohs, their memories eradicated.

New push to prevent 'benches or schools' having Trump's name

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez says she is "working on a bill that would mean that nothing - not even a bench, no airport, no highway, no school - nothing - ever bear the name" of President Donald Trump.

Sanchez - a Democrat from California - was among the lawmakers under siege at the US Capitol last Wednesday.

In her own retelling, she and her staff barricaded themselves inside their office rooms and grabbed baseball bats - from her time as a player on the Congressional Women's Softball team - to protect themselves from the mob.

“I don't believe that a seditious occupant of the White House should ever have anything named after him," said Sanchez. "I don't think that he deserves any of the benefits that are conferred on prior presidents.”

Her Democratic colleague Joaquin Castro is introducing similar legislation to prevent the Trump name going up on any federal buildings or property.

Explaining his decision, Castro said: "Let us learn from our past. Donald Trump should never become a future generation’s confederate symbol."

OMG, American lawyers!

The two lawyers representing Adam Johnson, the MAGA fan infamously photographed happily smiling while stealing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lectern, claimed that, despite evidence to the contrary, their client is actually “pro-law enforcement” and was trespassing in the Capitol to “witness a little bit of history” while, apparently, also looting.

Self-proclaimed righty warrior has eaten for days, say his Mum whom he lives with.....the reason

'because the detention facility won't feed him all organic food'

Chansley is pictured screaming 'Freedom' inside the Senate chamber after the U.S. Capitol was breached by a mob during a joint session of Congress

it is not known whether this 'state sponsored torture' has caused him to burst into tears

as it did another one of these numpties, when told that climbing into Capitol Hill did not

entitle him to climb aboard a flight home

Meanwhile decent folk continue the search (as helped by dimwitted righties) for other

anti democratic rioters - as the latter posted up so much evidence of their own crimes 😋

"A hacker claims to have archived all of Parler's deleted posts and says they provide 'very incriminating' evidence in the wake of the deadly mob attack at the US Capitol. "
