As Churchill said -

"You can always trust the Americans to do the right thing. But only after they have tried every other option"

It's clear that the majority of Americans understand very well what's going on. Roll on Nov 03

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." -- attributed to Sinclair Lewis

His 1935 book “It can’t happen here” is worth a read - The main character, Buzz Windrip, appeals to voters with a mix of crass language and nativist ideology. Once elected, he solidifies his power by energizing his base against immigrants, people on welfare, and the liberal press.

The one bright spot for the anti-Windrip forces is that things don’t work out particularly well for anyone else. Windrip never follows through on his pledge to restore prosperity and redistribute wealth, fueling conflict with his early supporters, who mostly end up dead or in jail. Even Windrip himself gets little of what he wants. As president, he insists on absolute obedience, “louder, more convincing Yeses from everybody about him.” After two years of this treatment, his crafty aide Sarason maneuvers the president into exile, only to be deposed himself a month later in a military coup.

I’ll post more later, but the book and tapes from today would sink any other President - we’ll see if it does this one as it’s up to the Republicans to show if they have any morals left at all. Bob Woodward (of Watergate & "All The President's Men” fame) apparently is the political Grim Reaper.

Conversations recorded mid Feb i.e, he knew and yet deliberately downplayed the risks of CV to the public, and still held political rallies.

Meanwhile the VP attempting a clean up on aisle four.....

"to those defeatists that say we can not win this war, I say I have met our great scientists and they told us it not a matter of if, but when, new wonder weapons will be available to obliterate our enemies cities, all thanks to the commitment of our Great Leader"

But quite apart from the telling a lie about what Harris said - she said she would not take Trump's word for it - and the "playing politics with the coronavirus," projection; Pence has a history of mishandling epidemics - AIDS in Indiana when he was Governor for example. And Pence is also the head of the CoronaVirus task force, so any sins of omission or coverup by Donald also become the sins of omission and coverup by Mike Pence. You can't feint ignorance or "I was not there" on this one Mr. Vice President.....

Just another day in America  - as they say "the fix is in ". Or at least the Republican Party is trying their hardest to make it so....

Florida can require people with felony convictions to repay all outstanding debts before they are eligible to vote again, but does not have to tell them how much they owe, a federal appeals court ruled on Friday. The hugely consequential decision will probably shut out hundreds of thousands of voters in the key battleground state in this fall’s presidential election.

Durham investigation - AG Barr created this to obviously discredit the Russia investigation: Inside 60 days of an election DOJ is not supposed to issue any report, or indictment for fear of influencing the election - he's obviously pressuring Durham to do just that...

Oregon fires. No, the fires are not being started by Antifa, but that doesn't stop a Republican candidate from saying so apparently...

Senator Johnson. Trying to gin up Ukranian dirt on Biden, the source he and Rudy Guliani are relying on is a known Russian agent.

People in the US would rather believe a lie than the truth Surfer.

We thought GB was divided but my goodness, the US is based on hatred of the person who doesn't agree with you.

As somebody remarked, BLM is wasting its time in the US. Trump gains energy and support from hatred.

Donald Trump clashed with Democratic officials in California over West Coast wildfires as he flatly told them he believes scientists have not yet proven there is a climate crisis.

The GOP president made his latest, and one of his clearest, proclamations about whether the Earth is warming during a briefing in California about forest fires raging up and down America’s West Coast after several Democratic officials pressed their case that warming is occurring.

"We want to work with you to really recognize the changing climate,” California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot told Mr Trump.

"It'll start getting cooler. You just watch,” the president shot back with a grin.

In a rare public rebuke of a sitting president, Mr Crowfoot replied: "I wish science agreed with you."

His grin now a smirk, Mr Trump said: "Well, I don't think science knows actually."

Alexander Vindman, a key witness in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, says that the president is a “useful idiot” to Russia, in his first interview since the impeachment trial.

Mr Vindman, formerly of the US Army and National Security Council,  spoke with Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, author of the recent bombshell article about the president’s disparaging remarks about the military and war dead.

Mr Goldberg asks Mr Vindman whether he believes Trump is a Russian intelligence asset.

“President Trump should be considered to be a useful idiot and a fellow traveller, which makes him an unwitting agent of Putin,” says Mr Vindman.

Pressed as to whether he thinks Russia is blackmailing Trump, Mr Vindmand says: “They may or may not have dirt on him, but they don’t have to use it.”

On climate change and fires, Trump says weighed in on “explosive trees.” Here’s what he said:     "You go to other countries and they don't have this problem, but they have more explosive trees, meaning they catch fire much easier. So we have to talk about that.”

I've just hosed the trees in our garden just in case and called bomb disposal.

In a sad irony his supporters were chanting all lives matter in an indoor auditorium, during a pandemic, with only a few wearing masks.
