Nelson Mandela Dies

''No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, then they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite''- Nelson Mandela

I wanted to hear what was happening with the flooding on the coast last night but gave up on the 10pm news when it was still all Mandela at 10.30. You can only take so much of the same old thing being continually rehashed.A great man and all that, but you got the feeling that imminent Nuclear War or Martian Invasion would only have been the second story last night.

There aren''t many world leaders that deserve the obituary he is getting. I am sure it can be ''tolerated'' for a day for someone of his stature.

The country has been in rapid decline since the end of apartheid with unemployment high and rising, poverty increasing, educational standards falling, violent, racist and sexual crime at shockingly high levels and on the increase. Still, what do you expect of people who think all the problems of the world can be fixed with an old car tyre and a box of matches?

surely celebrating one of the worlds most important and kindest figures should have a large amount of coverage as he did so much for the world. I think its more important than the weather

Important? How exactly?

Kind? How exactly?

Obviously you are taken in by the hype.

Maybe all those necklaces his branch of the ANC dished out qualified as kindness.
Anyway it never ever surprises me how parts of history gets airbrushed and is forbidden to be spoken about due to the current agenda.
For example.  Hitler was Man of the Year 1938.
Therefore you should never rule out Gerry Adams awarded an  knighthood

It does seem that people also conveniently forget what the Apartheid government was up to as well. For a man to be locked up for so long by them, and then come out without wanting every to kill every one of the scumbags is pretty remarkable.

To be able to keep a country reasonably united and peaceful after the downfall of an evil regime is also remarkable as well.

P.s. Nobody has airbrushed his past away. Some of us appreciate what he accomplished when he used a peaceful political route.

We should never forget his legacy;

Turning a first world country, the only successful African country, into a lawless, corrupt basket case just like the rest of those on that continent.

That is very true, some of the things he did when in power were truly awful, however when you look at the big picture, surely he did so much more good than bad?

Man of the year doesn''t mean the most benevolent. It means the one that has had the greatest influence on the world in a year.
