Can’t say I’ve been listening to them, but I saw this picture on Twitter today and it reminded me that The Sweet were the first band I got into, as a 9 year old in 1973. I don’t remember seeing this picture before but if I have, it explains a lot!

There is something special about a brass band.👍 How they ended up in tough, mining and working towns I don't know but I'm glad they did.

Going to see Sham 69 at the Islington Academy this Saturday.

Getting in free as our guitarist is in one of the support bands, don’t think I’d pay £35 to see them!

The best one they do now isn’t even one of their own, they usually play White Riot!

And Hellraiser by Sweet the first record I bought with my own pocket money 👍

I recall reading that The Clash weren’t happy with Jimmy Pursey joining in on that! He still has a lot of energy for an old git though.

I bought Blockbuster off someone at school, that was my first purchase.

I'm not a U2 fan, and I know it isn't specific to the events of 50 years ago today, but I gave this a go earlier

'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

One late night in 1967, I lay in bed listening to Radio Luxembourg on my little blue transistor radio and the song You keep me Hanging On by the Vanilla Fudge came on. It blew me away. It was the birth of Heavy music and this band started it. I had been listening to Brit music, Stax and Motown. But this was something special.

They are still going and wanted one final stab at a Heavy version of a Motown song. trouble is their original bassist, the legendary Tim Bogert was on his death bed dying of cancer. He got off it and one final time recorded the bass line for this song. It still captures the 1967 style and these guys must make the R&R Hall of Fame.
