Went to see Parquet Courts last night. Very good live band. Probably one of the uncoolest looking bands I have seen, so I presume that is cool. Able to hear all their influences, Pavement, Television, Sonic Youth, Velvets etc but aren''t a pastiche.

Backed up by a young band The Wytches. Also a good live band. Noisy and angry. Nirvana meets Sabbath etc.

Got a record player for my birthday!!

Only got four vinyls so far, got U2 War and Madness Keep Moving in Circular Sound. Then bought American Idiot and Californication brand new online.

Jesus of Suburbia is absolutely brilliant.

Glad to see. I think every music lover should have a record player. Vinyls have a wider field/range of tones available, for example if you listen to the Beatles white album with a dog, hallway through the record the mut will suddenly turn its head recognising a sound so high which only dogs (and a few other animals i''m sure) can hear

Heard the Wytches on R6 the other day and was impressed. I think the track was wire framed mattress.

Well done GP on the record player (haven''t heard that term for many years) I like Green Day when they do epic.

Mrs M is right, vinyl is the best way of listening to music. With MP3 and other digital matter, music is compressed to within an inch of its life and therefore bits are squeezed out and you''re not getting the complete experience as the musicians intended (probably a bit different now as the way we buy and listen to music has changed.)

If you like Green Day have a listen to some early punk, you''ll hear every bit of buzz, feedback, bum note but not detrimental to the music. You''ll hear fingers sliding along strings and all sorts of things.

Two weeks ago I binned a Pioneer music system that consisted of a record player that had never had a record played on it. It had tape to tape recording and disc to tape recording plus radio to tape recording facilities. I took it to our local heart foundation shop and they would not take it as it was black, if it had been silver no problem. It cost me many 100s of pounds a few years ago and it ended up in a skip.

Ah, mate. Should have stuck it on ebay or similar. My cousin, and many others, love that sort of thing, even for ripping apart for spares.

Pity I would have gladly given it to your cousin Herm. Did not want the hassle of ebay. Love the old vinyl but just moved from a 14 room house down to a 4 room bungalow (bit of a difference) so much stuff had to go.[:(]

Well we''re 20 minutes into the libertines set and they''ve played 2 songs, been made to stop and go off stage 4 times due to people passing out and trying to get onstage to hug them along with flares banded about within the crowd...

On the subject of record players, if anyone has a dansette ( or similar ) they don''t want let me know, although I''m not willing to pay silly money for one.

Strange. I am wearing a new shirt. Primark of course. I thought it was dark blue, but it might be black.I was too young to be a hippy, far too old to be punk. Smashing times though.hex

I''m seeking out all things Clash at the moment.

Live footage, documentaries, obscure tracks, covers, blogs etc.

Trying to recapture my youth methinks.

Some of the obscure bands on here are good some not, quite like `jelly fiends` on another thread. Same sort of thing on the `guitarist` freebie CD`s. Plenty of new music if you look, mind you been playing Eddie and the hotrods of late. Not being a country music fan I never thought I would hear myself write this but I rather enjoy the Bob Harris show. If you fancy a bit of blues try the Dave Jackson band.

Well I''ve been listening to John Lydon''s 1997 album ''Psychopath.'' If anyone was wondering; yes it was terrible. The music has a good feel in terms of energy as it''s a dance/electro record, yet it really belongs in the 80''s, whilst the vocals are nothing like as strong as they are on any PIL record (or pistols of course come to that).

You can only give things a try though; like a threesome with another man involved or the new flavour of walkers crisps that they''ve just put out.

Beans on Toast crisps - yuck

Only just got round to listening to Mac DeMarco''s newest album Salad Days, and it''s amazinggg.

Check it out if you like Jonathan Richman, Kurt Vile or general oddball introspective nostalgic niceness.

Enjoyed George Thorogood`s music for years, heard on the radio yesterday that he is teetotal and always has been, funny old world.
