Recommended Posts

I’ve seen posts on here that say we’ll get an add-on payment from Leicester if that happens. Do we know that for sure or is it an assumption?

My posting and just and assumption really because we are never party to the detail.

Add-ons often include an international call up clause I believe along with other things such as the number of appearances and the biggy which is, of course, sell-ons.

Some think that we sold JM slightly on the cheap so extensive add-ons might negate this opinion.

Southgate is well behind the curve.  Maddison is what England were missing during the World Cup and the latest friendlies.  A playmaker !!

How much are international add on clauses generally worth?

Similar clauses for domestic appearances I understand - they balance the risk on the initial purchase. If Maddison flops, Leicester cut their losses. If he plays 30 games for them this season, Leicester must be getting good value out of him, so fair enough they they pay us more.

What extra value does Leicester get out him playing international games? A bit of extra marketing/shirt sales? Presumably not a lot?

If his value goes up as a result of his international performances, the buying club still doesn’t get any tangible benefit until they sell him - and presumably there’s a sell on clause to cover that?

Watched him in the U21s International at Carra Rd and he didn''t look international class then, and was subbed. Probably trying too hard to impress the locals to be fair. Having said that he''s obviously a talent with the added advantage of getting regular football at Leicester, which is something a lot of English lads don''t get. England are crying out for an attacking MF so with Madds and Foden in train the future could look a lot worse.

I think two players could be the missing parts of the jigsaw for England. Maddison and Sessegnon at left back

Maddison should be absolutely involved, probably the best young ball-player England have.

As for Sessegnon, hasn''t really made the same kind of impact Maddison in the Prem so far but arguably our best option going forward with Young stepping down.

Most definitely. One of the most naturally talented players I’ve seen play for us. If you can boss the game at such a young age, then you’re destined to be a top, top player. Not to mention one of the best dead-ball specialists ever to play for us.

It also helps that the exact position that the England team currently need is a “floating 10” that can actually score. Kane and Maddison sounds a formidable front line. Good luck to the lad.

I wonder how close Jadon Sancho is from the England team? Yet to play for U21s I believe but making all the headlines with Dortmund.

Wonder what we will see from Mini-Messi Marcus Edwards. Let''s hope for England''s sake he can correct what is preventing him making the most of his potential and wont become another Ravel Morrsion

I saw an article in the Guardian today which strongly suggested that Phil Foden should get a call-up to the England squad. If he does indeed get the nod, it will wrong on so many levels for me.

Whilst he looks to be a top player and will undoubtedly go on to achieve great things, he''s barely played any football. Young players need to earn call-ups to the national squad the hard way - pushing for a first team start, keeping your place, learning from a few mistakes and establishing yourself in the game. An England call-up is way too much, too soon. The pressure it would put on him is ridiculous and you would think we would learn from cases like Theo Walcott to know that it''s not a good idea.

The media have a big part to play in the downfall of English football IMO. Phil McNulty wrote a whole article on the BBC Sport website titled something like ''Foden compared to Inesta'', which is ridiculous after about three appearances.

Whether Maddison is ready for a call-up is a different matter. Apparently Southgate was going to hold off from selecting him, however his good form and the injury to Alli has made him re-consider.

At least he has put in the graft in League 1, the SFL, the Championship - and a few appearances in the Prem.

Yellow-tinted glasses firmly on, I''d bloody love to see him play for England!

In fairness, Foden is in the Man City first team squad playing for the best coach in the world... that takes some doing.

He and Sancho are quite simply outstanding talents.

So I''d have no problem seeing them get in the England squad now because they are the future.

Foden is also 18 and yet to start a league game though so there is no rush to bring him in.

For me calling him up over Maddison or Sancho sends the wrong message. However if Southgate wants to be bold he could call up all three...
