Van wink 2,994 Posted October 12, 2018 "The Norwich City Academy has launched its new City Select programme to give young footballers the opportunity to train at Colney Training Centre. Previously known as the ‘Futures,’ City Select is a coaching and development scheme which sits one layer beneath the full Academy squads. The programme is designed to give local young footballers the chance to train weekly at Colney under the guidance of Academy coaches with the primary aim of these players breaking into the Academy.Dean Wright, head of Academy coaching, said: "The Select programme helps us to bridge the gap between grassroots football and Academy football and allows us to nurture local talent by providing the extra time and support some need to make the step up."All sessions will be led by Academy coaches who know the standard and what is required to make that step up and so can tailor sessions appropriately to support the players."It is important for us as a Club to produce our own players and have the best youth development programme we can. The Select groups will create more opportunity for local boys to be a part of Norwich City and experience good coaching and the fantastic facilities at Colney.’’Reflecting on recent successes, Scott Smith, head of local recruitment, added: "In the last 12 months we have had eight players step up from this programme to gain a contract with the Academy so there are massive benefits to it."This is good to see, a replacement for the "Futures" program which I assume replaced the old PDC?
